Objective To evaluate the cost-effectiveness of early enteral nutrition (EEN) in elder patients undergoing gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma. Methods An outcome-based retrospective review of 52 patients who had undergone gastrectomy for gastric carcinoma between July 1999 and June 2002 was performed .There were 27 patients in the EEN group, and 25 in the TPN group. BACKGROUND: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease caused by various factors,such as environmental factor,inherited factor,etc.,and its cause isn't very clear now. This study aims to investigate the risk factors mentioned above in the onset of diabetes mellitus, and is of significance in the first and second grade of prevention of diabetes mellitus.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the risk factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus to provide evidence for the proper intervention of it.DESIGN: Cross-sectional study based on diagnosis.SETTING: Department of epidemiology in a university and department of endocrinology in a university hospital.PARTICIPANTS: The subjects were residents who have resided in town and country of Dalian for more than 5 years and were elder than 40 years old. The method of stratified cluster random sampling was carried out among natural persons who were divided into two groups according to city and country. Totally 2 500 persons were taken in total and 1 250 persons were from each group. The subjects who had been diagnosed as diabetes mellitus were included.METHODS: Questionnaire survey was employed for all the subjects, including physical examinations such as height,weight,waist girth,hip girth,blood pressure,blood glucose,etc. Patients of type 2 diabetes mellitus were taken as the case group and the normal was as the control group. The unconditional univariate and multivariate logistic regression were used.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Unconditional logistic regression analysis of risk factors of type 2 diabetes mellitus with single factor analysis and multivariate analysis.RESULTS: Family history of diabetes mellitus(OR = 2.339),obesity[body mass index(BMI),OR = 1.462],systolic pressure(OR = 1.016),hyperlipidemia(OR = 1.615), age(OR = 1.043) were the major risk factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus.CONCLUSION: Family history of diabetes mellitus, increase of systolic pressure,obesity,high blood lipid and age are the risk factor for type 2 diabetes mellitus. For all communities,control of body mass and high blood pressure is an important way to prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus.

7.Pharmacokinetics of SN-38 in rats and tissue distribution of 7-ethyl-10-hydroxycamptothecin in mice after intravenous injection of irinotecan hydrochloride nanoparticles.

The paper reported an investigation of the pharmacokinetics of SN-38 (7-ethyl-10-hydroxy-camptothecin) in rats and the tissue distribution in mice after injection of irinotecan hydrochloride nanoparticles (CPT-11) via tail veins. An LC-MS/MS method was established to determine the concentrations of SN-38 in whole blood of rats and in different tissues of mice. The pharmacokinetics and tissue distribution of SN-38 were compared after the intravenous injection of CPT-11 NPs and CPT-11 solution. Compared with irinotecan solution, the elimination half-life of SN-38 was prolonged from 2.17 h to 2.67 h after the intravenous injection of CPT-11 NPs, but its AUC had little change. After the injection of CPT-11 NPs in mice, over time, the concentrations of CPT-11-metabolized SN-38 in CPT-11 NPs were significantly higher in the whole blood, colon and lungs than those in CPT-11 solution, followed by in the spleen and liver, but those in the heart and brain had no change. However, the amount of SN-38 in the kidneys was reduced with time. CPT-11 NPs could prolong SN-38's (one of its metabolites) blood circulation time in rats and significantly increased the concentration of CPT-11-metabolized SN-38 in the whole blood, colon and lungs of mice. CPT-11 NPs made SN-38 efficiently target-bind to the colon and lungs of mice.

8.Research on Isolating Bacteria by Using Magnetophoresis

There are similarities between magnetotactic bacteria and Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans (A. ferrooxidans) which isolated from Acid mine drainage(AMD). The weak magnetotaxis of some bioleaching bacteria isolated were found by microscope. A magnetophoresis apparatus was designed based on these weak magnetotaxis and be used to analysis the movement of these strains. The physiological properties of the anear magnetic field strain and removed magnetic field strain which isolated successfully by magnetophoresis apparatus have large difference. The nanometer magnetic particles was extract from the Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans which purified by spread plate method from AMFS and its main elements are Fe and O by energy spectrum analysis. The results show that A. ferrooxidans have weak magnetotaxis and can be isolated by magnetophoresis. With the development of this new isolating method, the research of magnetotactic bacteria and bioleaching will get more benefit from it.

Usage of reverse genetic techniques in the research area of the fundamental etiology of foot-and-mouth disease virus (FMDV), has resolved the issue about the function of viral gene of FMDV on genomic integer level. At present, a further recognition and apprehension for the molecular etiology of FMDV based on the development in reverse genetics was made. Combined with the research work in our labs, we reviewed international advances about the molecular pathogenic mechanism, the relationship be-tween virulence and variation in the genomes, influencing factors for the viral replication, and the develop-ment of new-type gene vaccine of FMD in this article, and propose the potential research aspects in reverse genetics of FMDV in the future.
10.Characteristics and clinical significance of sera anti-enteric neuronal antibodies in patients with irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea

Objective To detect the sera anti-enteric neuronal antibodies ( AENA ) in irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea ( IBS-D) patients and analyzed its correlation with IBS-D symptoms to explore the potential roles of AENA in the pathogenesis of IBS.Methods IBS-D patients diagnosed with RomeⅢdiagnostic criteria were en-rolled in this study.The sera of healthy subjects were used as controls.Indirect immunofluorescence ( IIF) was used to detect the sera AENA with the substrate of ileal submucosal plexus of guinea pig .The immune reactivity ( IR) stains were read in blinded method .The bowel symptoms of patients with positive AENA were compared to thatwithnegativeandweeklypositiveantibodies.Results 1)Atotalof127IBS-Dpatientswereenrolledinthis study.The positive rate of sera AENA was 85.8%in IBS-D patients, and 7.0%in healthy controls.Among 109 IBS-D patients with positive IIF reactivity , 23.6%present with strong positive , 43.3% with positive and 18.9%with weakly positive stain .The IR patterns included cytoplasm staining , nucleus staining , cytoplasms and nuclei staining , nuclear membrane staining , cytoplasm and nuclear membrane staining .Six positive sera of healthy control showed cytoplasm staining to substrate neurons .2 ) More patients of IBS-D with positive IR had higher intestinal symptoms scores (>10 scores, 58.8%vs 38.1%), frequent abdominal pain in non-defecation period (91.7%vs 60.0%) , and severe abdominal pain/discomfort before defecation ( 24.7% vs 9.5%) comparing to those with negative and weekly positive IR of AENA;IBS-D patients with positive IR of AENA are more commonly associated with urgency comparing to those with negative IR in IIF (57.1%vs 87.3 ) .Conclusions AENA may play a role in the pathogenesis of IBS , and is a potential biomarker of IBS-D.
