1.Analysis and Design of Database and Management Information System for Ship Medicinal Materials Equipment

Objective To analyze and design database on ship medicinal materials and equipment management information system. Methods According to the principle and requirement of information engineering methodology, the operation requirement and data requirement were analyzed, and the database was designed including its concept, logic and physics models. Results The design and method of the database were proposed. Conclusion A basic data platform is established on ship medicinal materials and equipment information collection, storage, transmission, exchange and utilization.
2.SOME EXPERIMENT ON THE DEPENDENCE OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF LENSES AND THE ABILITY OF INDUCTION OF THE EYE CUPS

This study was an attempt to excise or transplant optic vesicles, and excise or transplant presumptive lens ectoderms, by means of microscopic manipulations. Its purpose was to explore the dependence of the development of lens on the eye cup and the ability of induction of the eye cup to develop lens in liana nigromaculata, R. limnocharis, and Kaloula barealis, which are frequently used in experimental embryology in China. The results show that their lenses cannot develop without eye vesicles. This indicates that they belong to the pattern of dependent differentiation. The results also indicate that the situation of forming lenses from ectoderms under induction of eye cup is different in three kinds of frogs: the lenses can be frequently formed from ectoderm of both Lead and abdomen in Rana nigromaculata; but the frequency of lens formation from ectoderm of abdomen is rather low in R. limrocharis; and only the ectoderm of head is positive in Kaloula barealis. The interrelation in size between the eye cup and the lens was recorded. The formation of a secondary eye cup from brain wall under condition of the contact with the presumptive lens ectoderm was reported too. In addition, it was found that the temperature might have influence on eye differentiation.
3.THE EFFECTS OF MESENCHYMAL CELLS ON PIGMENT EPITHELIUM OF FROG EMBRYO EYE BEFORE AND AFTER ITS DIFFERENTIATION

The mesenchymal cells were carefully scraped off from the optic vesicles or eye cups at 15 to 24 stages in Rana limnocharis by a hair loop (those specimens from 21 to 24 stages were treated with trypsin in order to separate the mesenchymal cells easier) and then the optic vesicles or eye cups were transplanted into the coelom of tadpoles for 1 to 2 weeks. The transplantation of the eye cups Without scraping mesenchymal cells off at 21 to 24 stages were used as control. The results are as follows: 1.The pigment epithelium of eye, which was transplanted at 15 to 20 stages, (the pigment epithelium have not differentiated at those stages) can not fully develop or only a tiny piece of pigment epithelium layer occurs. 2.The pigment epithelium of eye, which was transplanted at 21 to 24 stages, (the pigment epithelium have differentiated at those stages) can develop, but separates itself from the normal position and hangs outside the eye or curls inside the cavity of eye in a vesicular form. 3.In the intact mesenchymal cells, the pigment epithelium of eye, which was transplanted at 21 to 24 stages, can develop well and remain in normal position. These results suggest that the mesenchymal cells might have an important effect on the development and morphology of eye pigment epithelium before and after its differentiation. Before differentiation of pigment epithelium, the existence of mesenchymal cells is a necessary condition for its normal differentiation; after its differentiation, the mesenchymal cells might play a mechanical role to keep the pigment epithelium layer in normal position.
4.THE STUDY ON INDUCTION FROM PRESUMPTIVE PIGMENT EPITHELIUM INTO RETINA

It is well-known that the presumptive significance of every part of the optic vesicle has already been decided. The centrifugal part (i. e. the far end wall) of the optic vesicle is called presumptive retina and its centripetal part, (i. e. the near end wall) the presumptive pigment epithelium. In the present study, we caused the latter to come into contact with different tissues and organs by transplanting and excising for the purpose of observing whether it would be able to alter normal course and form retina. The experimental material was the embryos of frogs (Rana nigromaculara, R. japonica and Bufo bufo gargarizans). The experiment was divided into two groups: (1) brought presumptive pigment epithelium into contact with presumptive lens ectoderm, head ectoderm and abdomen ectoderm; (2) brought it into contact with other organs and tissues, including otic vesicle, pericardial membrane, nephridial tubule, pharyngeal wall, muscle, coelomic membrane, hepar, and cartilage.The results indicate that the contact with three kinds of ectoderm can alter normal course of development of presumptive pigment epithelium, transform it into retina and further produce secondary eye cup. As regard to its frequency of transformation into retina, the highest is in the case contacted with presumptive lens ectoderm; in the case contacted with head ectoderm come next and the lowest in the case contacted with abdomen ectoderm. The results also show that the above-mentioned organs and tissues can cause similar reactions, but the frequency of transformation is lower than that caused by abdomen ectoderm, and there are very few secondary eye cups which appear only under the conditions of contacting with otic vesicle, coelomic membrane and cartilage. This suggests that the action of the contact which brings presumptive pigment epithelium to transform into secondary retina might be an induction and material of induction widely distributed in the embryonic body.Two other reactions, moreover, were also found, i. e. the presumptive pigment epithelium was transformed into brain tissue and merged after the former came into contact with the latter, and the transplanted eye and the host eye fused in part or fully merged into a large eye when they came into contact.Above-mentioned phenomena further prove that the optic vesicle has a certain plasticity.
5.Analysis and Operations of Optimized Design for Man-machine Compatible Work in Equipment Design

From the view of ergonomics study,the importance of optimized design for human-computer coordination work is presented. Through the analysis of probably reasons for the ergonomics accidents in the process of human-computer coordination work,the methods and realization of the optimized design are given out. Furthermore,the studies of human-computer systematization design in preventing the accidents are also discussed.
6.Development of Container Water Station

Objective To develop a water station that can be loaded to a ship and supply freshwater. Methods The water station comprises the reverse osmosis seawater desalination device, pressure water tank, high pressure water pump, etc, with 40-feet international standard containers as the carrier. Results The water station can produce 80 t freshwater daily, and the quality of produced water conforms to the standards of the state and army for drinking water quality. Conclusion The water station, which has highly-compaction, strong-mobility, excellent-adaptability and high-automaticity, fits for a ship.
7.Development of vest-style first-aid kit

This paper introduces the Vest-style First-aid Kit which are newly developed for PLA.Adopting a vest structure the Vest-style First-aid Kit has the advantages of fully freeing both hands,and being fit for the ship confined space.Basic performance experiments,ergonomics tests and army tryout were performed and the results showed that the vest-style first-aid kit was scientifically designed,and easy to use,suiting the body,obviously saving physical energy.It has a reasonably designed interior medicine layout and can fulfill the requirements of first-aid operations in naval ships.
8.EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON THE FORMATION OF SECONDARY OPTIC CUP FROM BRAIN WALL OF FROG EMBRYO UNDER THE INDUCTION OF THE PRESUMPTIVE LENS ECTODERM

Three types of microscopic operations were used in this study: 1. excision of the optic vesicle alone; 2. after excising the optic vesicle, a piece of forebrain tissue taken from another donor was inserted in between presumptive lens ectoderm and forebrain wall; 3. cut down the optic vesicle and portion of forebrain tissue and replaced them back in situ by turning over 180?. The operations were carried out on Rana nigromaculata at 15 and 16 stages, in order to bring the presumptive lens ectoderm to come into contact directly with the forebrain tissue for the purpose to analyse the possibility of eye cup formation from the brain wall. The results indicate that the forebrain wall which came into contact with the presumptive lens ectoderm could be induced and differentiated into a secondary eye cup or retina. A total of 81 cases of secondary eye cups among 282 operations (28.8%) were observed. The mechanism for the induction and its significance were discussed.
9.Study on expression of IL-13 and correlation between IL-13 and MUC5AC in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps

OBJECTIVE To explore expression of IL-13 in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps(EOS-CRSwNP) and further investigate the correlation between IL-13 and MUC5AC in EOS-CRSwNP. METHODS MUC5AC was detected in tissues from normal nasal mucosa and EOS-CRSwNP by immunohistochemistry and ELISA. We also used ELISA to detect the expression of IL-13 in normal nasal mucosa and EOS-CRSwNP. Correlation between IL-13 and MUC5AC in EOS-CRSwNP was investigated by correlation analysis. Secretion of MUC5AC in IL-13 incubated primary air-liquid interface(ALI)-cultured nasal polyp epithelial cells was examined by ELISA. RESULTS MUC5AC is mainly expressed in the epithelium of nasal mucosa by immunohistochemistry. By ELISA, expressions of MUC5AC and IL-13 are higher in EOS-CRSwNP than those in normal nasal mucosa. Correlation analysis shows that there exists a high correlation between MUC5AC and IL-13 in EOS-CRSwNP. IL-13 upregulates expression of MUC5AC in IL-13 incubated primary ALI-cultured nasal polyp epithelial cells for 7 or 14 days. CONCLUSION Expressions of MUC5AC and IL-13 are higher in EOS-CRSwNP than those in normal nasal mucosa respectively, and MUC5AC correlates with IL-13 highly in EOS-CRSwNP.
10.Allogenic chondrocytes loaded with liquid or gel biocarrier material in repairing full-thickness rabbit articular cartilage defects

BACKGROUND: It has been successful to repair articular cartilage defects by using solid carrier as cytoskeleton. We tried to transplant liquid or gel carrier materials combined cells into the body of animals, and investigated its feasibility.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the feasibility of homo-transplatation with liquid or gel carrier materials of Pluronic F-127-recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) engineered chondrocytes for the repair of full-thickness rabbit articular cartilage defect.DESIGN: A controlled experiment.SETTINGS: Department of Orthopaedics, Weihai Municipal Hospital;Shandong Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumaology.MATERIALS: The experiments were carried out in the laboratory of Shandong Institute of Orthopaedics and Traumaology from November 2001 to September 2003. Thirty-six healthy adult New Zealand rabbits of 2.5-4.5 kg, either male or female, were divided into four groups according to the method of random number table: Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 engineered chondrocytes group, Pluronic F-127-rhBMP group, Pluronic F127 engineered chondrocytes group and blank control group, with 9 rabbits in each group.METHODS: After grouping, the 36 rabbits were made into models of articular cartilage defects. Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 was used as a vector of chondrocytes which were obtained from New Zealand rabbits after cultured and amplified in vitro. The mixture of Pluronic F-127, Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 and cultured chondrocytes was transplanted into the defects of articular cartilage that had been made previously with φb3.5 mm drill.There was not any treatment in the blank control group. At 4, 8 and 12 weeks postoperatively, the repairing conditions of the defects were evaluated with gross observation and histological observation under light microscope and under electron microscope. The repaire quality was assessed blindly according to the Wakitani scoring standard.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① Healing of cartilage defects; ② Property and morphology of the chondrocytes, characteristics, number and arrangement of collagens in matrix.RESULTS: ① In the Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 engineered chondrocytes group, the transplanted chondrocytes could grow better than those in other groups, the defected areas were completely filled at 4 weeks. The regenerated tissues at 8 and 12 weeks had similar appearance with the surrounding normal cartilage tissue, but vague. Delimitation. The histological examination showed that transparent cartilages formed, and the defects were healed. ② Under electron microscope at 8 and 12 weeks, there were mature transparent cartilages in the repaired tissues, and there were irregularly arranged slight, even and non-periodical collagen Ⅱ in surrounding. In the blank control group, only fibrous repair was observed, the regenerated tissue lacked elasticity with rough surface. ③ Repairing quality score: The scores at each time point in the Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 engineered chondrocytes group were significantly different from those in the other groups.Those in the Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 engineered chondrocytes group and Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 group and Pluronic F-127 engineered chondrocytes group were significantly different from those in the blank control group [4 weeks: (3.93±1.91), (4.56±1.07), (4.78±1.09), (8.44±1.13) points:8 weeks: (2.80±1.45), (3.24±1.00), (3.33±1.00), (8.44±1.13) points; 12 weeks (2.22±1.10), (3.01±0.69), (3.00±0.71), (9.00±0.87) points, P < 0.001],but there were no significant differences between the two groups (P > 0.05).CONCLUSION: The mixture of Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 and cultured chondrocytes can repair successfully the cartilage defects of femoral condyle of rabbit knees by means of hyaline cartilage than simple application of Pluronic F-127-rhBMP-2 or Pluronic F-127 engineered chondrocytes.
