Objective To investigate whether there is a thinning of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) in the eyes of diabetic patients and to analyze the relationship between RNFL thickness and several diabetic risk factors. Methods Forty-two type 2 diabetes mellitus patients aged 47-70 years were enrolled in this study. All the subjects underwent ophthalmologic examinations and glaucoma diagnosis (GDx) nerve fiber analyzer scanning with two different modes: variable cornea compensation (VCC) and enhanced cornea compensation(ECC).The GDx parameters included the temporal-superior-nasal-inferior-temporal average (TSNITave), superior and inferior averages, the TSNIT standard deviation and the nerve fiber indicator (NFI). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) was applied to study the diagnostic ability of indices. The association between risk factors and the NFI was studied. Results The area under the curve for the ROC of the NFI was the largest for both the ECC and VCC modes. There was a significant relationship between age and RNFL thinning. However, there was no significant association between diabetic duration and fasting blood glucose with RNFL thinning. The influence of age on NFI was greater in diabetic patients than in control subjects. Conclusions Age has an important influence on the NFI of diabetic patients. Diabetic patients with normal ocular fundus may have RNFL thinning.

Objective To evaluate the association of age and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness by means of scanning laser polarimetry in a sample of healthy Chinese eyes. Methods One hundred and fifty eyes of 150 healthy subjects underwent RNFL scan in two different modes (Variable Cornea Compensation,VCC;Enhanced Cornea Compensation,ECC) of Glaucoma Diagnosis Variable Cornea Compensation Nerve Fiber Analyzer.The parameters included temporal-superior-nasal-inferior-temporal (TSNIT) average,superior average,inferior average,TSNIT standard deviation,and nerve fiber indicator (NFI). Results Mean values of TSNIT average,superior average,inferior average,TSNIT standard deviation and NFI in VCC mode were (57.12±6.26),(69.35±4.21),(67.59±7.06),(25.46±4.02),(17.35±7.59),while the parameters' values in ECC mode were (56.15±5.32),(68.24±6.63),(66.90±2.40),(24.80±6.76),(18.84±8.51),respectively.The differences between the values of VCC and ECC modes were not statistically significant.The parameters' values of total subjects were associated with age.But there were no significant associations between age and parameter values in the eyes of those older than 40 years old subjects. Conclusions There are no significant differences between the RNFL values detected by VCC and ECC modes in 150 healthy Chinese eyes.Age has influence on RNFL thinning in 21-70 years old healthy eyes,but not in the eyes of older than 40 years old people.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the clinical efficacy and safty of combined treatment telmisartan plus simvastatin on early diabetic nephropathy. Methods46 patients with early diabetic nephropathy were randomly divided into two groups. Control group ( n ＝ 23 ) received regular insulin therapy, captopril l0mg tid. Study group received telmisartan 80mg qd plus simvastatin 20mg qd on the basis of control group therapy. All patients received 16 weeks treatment. The clinical parameters were measured before and after therapy. ResultsAfter 16 weeks treatment,the urine MAU in both study group and control group were significantly decreased( all P ＜0. 01 ) ,however,the urine MAU in telmisartan plus simvastatin combination group decreased significantly than control group( P ＜ 0. 01 ). Improvement of lipid level in the study group better than the control group( P ＜0. 01 ). Kidney function,fasting blood glucose levels and HbAlc had no significant changes before and after treatment. ConclusionTelmisartan plus simvastatin combined treatment was better than the traditional therapy,which can delay the development of early diabetic nephropathy.

Objective To investigate the characteristics of cognitive changes in type 2 diabetes mellitus pa-tients complicated with stroke. Methods One hundred and one stroke patients were recruited and allocated to thetype 2 diabetes mellitus group (34 patients) and sixty-seven patients in the control group (67 patients) according tobeing with or without type 2 diabetes mellitus. All the patients were evaluated, after 3 weeks, 6 months and 12months of onset of stroke, with regard to their cognitive functions by using the Mini-mental State Examination(MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA). Results Average scores obtained in MMSE and MOCAtests were significantly lower at 3 weeks and 6 months after onset in the type 2 diabetes mellitus group when comparingwith control group. In the type 2 diabetes mellitus group, no significant difference was observed between 3 weeks and6 months after onset of stroke with regard to scores of MMSE and MOCA ( P > 0.05 ), however, the score at 6 monthswas significantly lower than that at 12 months after onset (P <0.05). On the other hand, scores of MMSE (P >0.05 ) and MOCA (P > 0.05 ) in the control group were not any statistically different among various time points ofobservation. Conclusion Type 2 diabetes mellitus will aggravate cognitive dysfunctions of stroke patients, whichstarted to recover in 6 months of onset of the stroke.

Objective To observe the results of crown lengthening surgery on the teeth with subgingival defect.Methods Crown lengthening surgery was performed on 54 terior teeth,which were divided into two groups based on probing depth of pre-operation:group A (<3 mm) and group B (3-4 mm).All teeth were restored 8 weeks after operation and followed-up to 1 year.The parameters of plaque index (PLI),suleus bleeding index (SBI),maximal defect probing depth (PD) and mobility degree (MD) at different times were measured,respectively.Results PLI,BI and PD were significantly improved during the follow-up period (P<0.01).The success rates of both groups were 96.8% and 69.6%, respectively (P<0.01).No significant difference about MD in the group A one year after restoration (P>0.05),but a significant improvement in the group B (P<0.01).Conclusion Crown lengthening surgery is a good method on the teeth with subgingival defect,but one must select the right indication.

Objective: To examine correlations between MRI and cognitive changes associated with cerebral infarction. Methods: Using HDS-R and Senior Cognitive Scale, we assessed 101 patients with cerebral infarction during acute to rehabilitation phase. The results were compared with their MRI. Results: At 3 weeks after onset, cognitive impairment was found in 70.3% of the patients. At 6 months after onset, 10% recovered to normal, 35.6% improved, 22.8% worsened, and 42.5% met the criteria of dementia. Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of Chuankezhi acupoint injection combined with nursing health care education for treatment of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at stable stage complicated with spleen kidney deficiency syndrome.Methods A prospective study was conducted. 118 patients with stable COPD and spleen kidney yang deficiency syndrome admitted to Hangzhou Third People's Hospital and Zhejiang Xinhua Hospital from February to April 2014 were enrolled, and they were divided into an experimental group (60 cases) and a control group (58 cases) according to the random number table. Both groups were given conventional treatment [including oxygen therapy, bronchodilators, corticosteroids, rehabilitation therapy in accord with the Global Initiative COPD (GOLD)]. Simultaneously, in the experimental group, Chuankezhi acupoint injection was additionally given, once daily for 12 weeks, and appropriate corresponding health education was mentioned. The lung function, quality of life and prognoses of the patients were regularly followed up for 9 months and compared between the two groups.Results After 12 weeks, one second forced expiratory volume (FEV1), FEV1/forced vital capacity (FVC) and maximum voluntary ventilation (MVV) per minute in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in control group [FEV1 (L): 1.57±0.42 vs. 1.35±0.35, FEV1/FVC: (58.62±4.56)% vs. (50.36±4.35)%, MVV (L/min): 60.62±7.56 vs. 56.95±6.33, allP < 0.05]. The quality of life evaluation form for COPD (QLICD-COPD) was used to evaluate the physical function, psychological function, social function and specific modules scores, showing that the above items in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in control group (total score: 74.69±8.92 vs. 68.62±8.95, physical function score: 74.16±8.55 vs. 66.31±7.15, mental function score: 78.69±9.79 vs. 72.64±8.45, social function score: 75.45±6.75 vs. 70.36±6.12, specific modules score: 67.52±6.33 vs. 61.36±6.17, allP < 0.05); Barthel index score was also significantly higher than that in the control group (75.41±9.24 vs. 68.43±7.95,P < 0.05). Within 9 months of follow-up, the incidence of acute exacerbation of COPD in the experimental group was significantly lower than that in the control group [5.00% (3/60) vs. 17.24% (10/58),P < 0.05]. The re-admission rate was also significantly less in patients in experimental group compared with that of control group [1.67% (1/60) vs. 12.07% (7/58),P < 0.05]. Conclusion Chuankezhi acupoint injection with health education for treatment of patients with COPD at stable stage and spleen kidney yang deficiency syndrome has good clinical efficacy, worthy to be applied more widely.

Methods:ACQUITY UPLCTMC18 chromatographic column (100 mm × 2.1 mm, 1.7 μm) was used. The mobile phase was acetonitrile-0.05% phosphoric acid solution with gradient elution at the flow rate of 0.2 ml/min. The detection wavelength was 250 nm. The column temperature was 30 ℃. The injection volume was 2 μl.Results:The linear ranges of chlorogenic acid, puerarin, forsythoside A, liquiritin, matrine, saikosaponin A, saikosaponin D, forsythin, ammonium glycyrrhizate, indirubin were 0.789 5-15.793 4 μg ( r=0.999 6), 0.571 8-11.445 6 μg ( r=0.999 4), 0.110 7-2.214 7 μg ( r=0.999 3), 0.047 5-0.950 5 μg ( r=0.999 2), 0.269 8-5.395 8 μg ( r=0.999 7), 0.085 1-1.703 9 μg ( r= 0.999 5), 0.105 7-2.113 0 μg ( r=0.999 4), 0.065 6-1.312 1 μg ( r=0.999 3), 0.080 5-1.611 2 μg ( r=0.999 5), 0.057 7-1.153 3 μg ( r=0.999 4). The limits of quantitation were 8.322, 9.023, 9.857, 4.583, 6.872, 7.844, 8.643, 5.895, 7.568, 5.251 μg/ml. The average recovery rates were 99.11%, 98.87%, 97.83%, 98.10%, 98.17%, 98.30%, 98.10%, 98.14%, 97.99% and 98.02%, and RSDs were all below 2.0%, respectively. RSDs of precision, reproducibility and stability tests were lower than 2.0%. Conclusions:The established method of multi-component content determination is fast, accurate and reproducible. It can be used for the quality control of Xiao’er-Jinqiao granules.
