ObjectiveTo investigate the expression and role of response gene to complement 32 (RGC32) in liver regeneration after partial hepatectomy (PH). MethodsA total of 42 male C57BL/6 mice, aged 10 weeks, were randomly divided into control group, postoperative day 1 group (1-d group), postoperative day 2 group (2-d group), postoperative day 4 group (4-d group), postoperative day 6 group (6-d group), postoperative day 8 group (8-d group), and postoperative day 10 group (10-d group), with 6 mice in each group. In the control group, the complete liver of the mice was resected for weighing and photography as the normal control group (sham group); further, the left and middle lobes of the liver were resected for weighing and photography as the surgical control group (0-day group); the sham group and the 0-day group shared the same group of mice. After successful modeling by PH, the mice were sacrificed on days 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 after surgery, and the liver was collected to measure the change in size. HE staining and oil red O staining were used to evaluate liver histomorphological changes; serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) were measured to evaluate the changes in liver function; immunohistochemical staining was used to measure the expression of proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) and Ki67 and analyze the change in cell proliferation during liver regeneration; quantitatie real-time PCR and immunohistochemical staining were uused to measure the expression and subcellular distribution of RGC32 during liver regeneration; EdU cell proliferation assay was used to analyze the effect of RGC32 overexpression or knocknout on hepatocyte proliferation in L02 cells. For continuous data, comparison between multiple groups was made by analysis of variance, and further pairwise comparisons were conducted using the LSD-t test. The independent samples t-test was used for comparison of continuous data between two groups. A Pearson correlation analysis was performed. ResultsThe liver gradually enlarged after PH, and the liver/body weight ratio rose to the peak from days 0 to 6, with significant differences between different time points (all P<0.05), while there was no significant change in liver size from days 6 to 10. The number of liver lipid droplets significantly increased after PH surgery and gradually decreased with liver regeneration, with a significant difference between the portal vein region and the central vein region (all P<0.05). Compared with the sham group, the 1d group had significant increases in the serum levels of ALT and AST (all P<0.05), which gradually returned to the levels of the sham group on day 6 and day 2 after surgery, respectively (P>0.05). Immunohistochemical staining showed that there were rapid increases in the numbers of PCNA- and Ki67-positive liver parenchymal cells after PH surgery, with the highest numbers of 86±5 and 89±5, respectively, on day 2, which then gradually decreased; however, there were gradual increases in the numbers of PCNA- and Ki67-positive nonparenchymal cells, with the peak numbers of 34±5 and 25±3, respectively, on day 6, which then gradually decreased. The total expression of RGC32 increased to the highest level on day 2 after PH surgery and then gradually decreased, and the changing trend of RGC32 expression in cytoplasm was consistent with that of total RGC32 expression; however, the expression of RGC32 in nucleus decreased to the lowest level on day 2 after PH surgery and then increased gradually. The correlation analysis showed that the expression of RGC32 in nucleus was negatively correlated with the proliferation of liver parenchymal cells (R2=0.308 3, P=0.016 7), and the expression of RGC32 in cytoplasm was positively correlated with the proliferation of liver parenchymal cells (R2=0.808 6, P<0.000 1). Cell experiments showed that compared with the control group, the EdU-positive rate was reduced by 15.6% after RGC32 overexpression (P<0.01) and was increased by 19.2% after RGC32 knockdown (P<0.01). ConclusionLiver parenchymal cells and nonparenchymal cells show asynchronous proliferation and participate in liver regeneration together. During liver regeneration after hepatectomy, there are differences in the expression of RGC32 between nucleus and cytoplasm, and RGC32 in nucleus may inhibit hepatocyte proliferation.

Objective: To evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of acupuncture plus Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang for benign essential blepharospasm (BEB). Methods: A prospective randomized controlled trial was performed. A total of 105 participants were randomized 1:1:1 into an acupuncture group, a herbal medicine group and an acupuncture plus herbal medicine group. Participants in the acupuncture group received manual acupuncture treatment, twice a week. Participants in the herbal medicine group received Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang, oral administration, once a day. Participants in the acupuncture plus herbal medicine group received both treatments. The therapeutic effects of the three groups were evaluated after four weeks of treatment. The primary outcome was the Jankovic rating scale (JRS) score, and the secondary outcome was the blepharospasm disability index (BSDI) score. Results: After four weeks of treatment, the JRS total scores significantly decreased in all three groups versus baseline (P<0.05). A greater reduction in the JRS total score was reported in participants in the acupuncture plus herbal medicine group (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the acupuncture group and the herbal medicine group (P>0.05). The acupuncture plus herbal medicine group had a greater decrease in the JRS severity score than the herbal medicine group (P<0.05). The reduction in the JRS frequency score was not significantly different among the three groups (P>0.05). The BSDI scores significantly decreased in all three groups versus baseline (P<0.05), but the reduction in the BSDI score was insignificantly different among the three groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: It is effective in the treatment of BEB either to use acupuncture and Dang Gui Bu Xue Qu Feng Tang alone or in combination. The combination therapy shows a more significant effect than either of the treatment alone.

Purpose:
C5α receptor 1 (C5ΑR1) is associated with the development of various human cancers. However, whether it is involved in the development of hepatitis B virus (HBV)–related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is poorly understood. We explored the expression, biological role, and associated mechanisms of C5AR1 in HBV-related hepatoma cells.
Materials and Methods:
The expression of C5ΑR1 mediated by HBV and HBV core protein (HBc) was detected in hepatoma cells. The function of nuclear factor кB (NF-κB) pathway in HBc-induced C5AR1 expression was assessed. The roles of C5ΑR1 in the activation of intracellular signal pathways, the upregulation of inflammatory cytokines, and the growth and migration of hepatoma cells mediated by HBc, were investigated. The effect of C5α in the development of HCC mediated by C5AR1 was also measured.
Results:
C5ΑR1 expression was increased in HBV-positive hepatoma cells. Dependent on HBc, HBV enhanced the expression of C5ΑR1 at the mRNA and protein levels. Besides, HBc could promote C5ΑR1 expression via the NF-κB pathway. Based on the C5ΑR1, HBc facilitated the activation of JNK and ERK pathways and the expression and secretion of interleukin-6 in hepatoma cells. Furthermore, C5ΑR1 was responsible for enhancing the growth and migration of hepatoma cells mediated by HBc. Except these, C5α could promote the malignant development of HBc-positive HCC via C5AR1.
Conclusion
We provide new insight into the mechanisms of hepatocarcinogenesis mediated by HBc. C5ΑR1 has a significant role in the functional abnormality of hepatoma cells mediated by HBc, and might be utilized as a potential therapeutic target for HBV-related HCC.

Pediatric cough is a heterogeneous condition in terms of symptoms and the underlying disease mechanisms. Symptom phenotypes hold complicated interactions between each other to form an intricate network structure. This study aims to investigate whether the network structure of pediatric cough symptoms is associated with the prognosis and outcome of patients. A total of 384 cases were derived from the electronic medical records of a highly experienced traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) physician. The data were divided into two groups according to the therapeutic effect, namely, an invalid group (group A with 40 cases of poor efficacy) and a valid group (group B with 344 cases of good efficacy). Several well-established analysis methods, namely, statistical test, correlation analysis, and complex network analysis, were used to analyze the data. This study reports that symptom networks of patients with pediatric cough are related to the effectiveness of treatment: a dense network of symptoms is associated with great difficulty in treatment. Interventions with the most different symptoms in the symptom network may have improved therapeutic effects.

OBJECTIVE:To study the potential ris k of Chinese patent medicine for the treatment of stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD),and to provide reference for the safety of clinical drug use. METHODS :Retrieved from Chinese journal full-text database ,CBM,Wanfang database and VIP ,using“stable”“Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease ”“COPD” “Chinese patent medicine ”as retrieval words ,relative literatures about Chinese patent medicine in the treatment of stable COPD were retrieved ,and retrieval time limitation was from their establishment to Sept. 2019. The type and components of Chinese patent medicine were collected. The potential risk of Chinese patent medicine was analyzed in terms of the contraindications of traditional Chinese medicines ,the interaction between traditional Chinese medicines and chemical medicines ,and its effects on stable COPD with other common chronic diseases. RESULTS :Eleven related studies covering 29 kinds of Chinese patent medicines for the treatment of stable COPD were included in this study. There were several incompatibility between two Chinese patent medicines containing Aconitum carmichaelii and eleven Chinese patent medicines containing “Pinellia ternata ,Trichosanthes kirilowii , Bolbostemma paniculatum ,Ampelopsis japonica ,Bletilla striata ”as an ancient rule of traditional Chinese medicine incompatibility “Eighteen antagonisms ”and“Nineteen mutual ”inhibitors. Meanwhile ,it should be avoided that four Chinese patent medicines containing ephedra combined with β2 receptor agonists or theophylline. Moreover ,oral antibiotics and 14 kinds of Chinese patent medicine containing licorice would reduce the curative effect. In addition ,patients with stable COPD who also had hypertension , hyperlipidemia or diabetes should be careful to use Chinese patent medicines containing ingredients such as Glycyrrhiza uralensis , A. carmichaelii ,Ephedra sinica ,Citrus aurantium ,Cornus officinalis ,Fritillaria cirrhosa ,Panax ginseng (Panax notoginseng ). CONCLUSIONS:There are many potential risks (such as combined use ,compatibility)in the use of Chinese patent medicines for stable COPD. It is suggested to comprehensively evaluate the patient ’s previous medical history and medication before using Chinese patent medicines ,so as to provide scientific guide for clinical rational medication.
