In order to observe the effects of the supernatant of WEHI-3 cell culture which contains IL-3 (interleukin 3), we have Performed some experiments by adding WEHI-3 supernatant to murine bone marrow cells culture. Cell culture of six days shows that the supernatant of WEHI-3 can promote adherence and proliferation of the stromal cells. There are 1.334?10~6 stromal cells/L in the culture which contained 20% WEHI-3 supernatant. Four kinds of stromal cells can be identified under both light microscope and SEM. Fibroblast-like cells which tend to be spindle-shaped with many filament-like and microvilli-like dendrites on the cell surface; Riticular-like cells which are irregular with some folds on the dendrites surface occasionally; Macrophage-like cells which are round with many phagocytic granules in the cytoplasm, and are characterized by positive ANAE staining, and many lamina-like folds and long filament-like dendrites on the cell sufrace; Fat cells are few in number, the cell body is ovoid with lipid droplet, and show strong cytoplasmic staining for Sudan black B, the cell surface is smooth. At the same time we have also observed the close contact between the hematopoietic cells and the stromal cells. In the culture without WEHI-3 supernatant, we have found few small adhered cells with less cytoplasm and weak enzyme activaties under light microscope, and with atrophied cell body and flat surface under SEM. The cell count of the stromal cells in normal culture is 58.83/mm~2. The results showed that WEHI-3 supernatant can promote the growth and proliferation of the stromal cells of murine bone marrow with some histochemical changes.

Objective To investigate the effect of Scutellaria baicalensis stem-leaf total flavonoids(SSTF) on blood glucose, blood lipid levels and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic rats with hyperlipidemia, and to explore the possible therapeutic mechanism. Methods Experimental rat model was established by feeding high-fat diet and intraperitoneal injection of small-dose streptozotocin. The effects of SSTF on blood glucose, blood lipid, insulin sensitive index(ISI) and antioxidative capacity of experimental rat model were investigated. Results SSTF significantly reduced the serum fasting blood glucose(FBG),total cholesterol(TC),and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C) levels, increased high-density lipoprotein cholesterol(HDL-C) level and ISI,and reduced triglyceride(TG) level to some extent. SSTF also had an effect on decreasing malondialdehyde(MDA) content in both serum and liver tissue, increasing serum superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity significantly and glutathione(GSH) content to some extent. Conclusion SSTF have significant effect on decreasing blood glucose and blood lipid and improving insulin resistance in type 2 diabetic rats with hyperlipidemia. Its therapeutic mechanism may be related to the antioxidation function.

BACKGROUND: Studies on the reparation of peripheral nervous system are not only a key focus in medical research, but also a major topic for biologists, biochemical engineers and materialogy specialists. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the individual difference of ideal muscle bridging neurologic defect configuration on nerve regeneration. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: The control experiment was performed at the Shenyang Medical College from June 2004 to September 2005. MATERIALS: Ten common dogs weighing 20-30 kg were used in this study. METHODS: After intravenous anesthesia, muscle strips in the caudal right sartorius and middle musculus flexor digitorum superficialis of dogs were sliced into two segments. One was observed by dissection under a stereoscope. Another received Haematoxylin & Eosin (HE) Staining and transverse area of muscle fiber of distal and proximal ends was analyzed by image analysis. The same muscle strip was sutured at 2 cm neurologic defect region of autologous left and right limbs. Number of medullated nerve fibers was measured after osmic acid staining. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Morphological difference of muscle bridge, transverse area of muscle fiber of distal and proximal ends, and number of medullated nerve fibers at bridging femoral nerve defect of left and right limbs. RESULTS: The muscle fiber in sartorius paralleled the longitudinal axis of muscle strip. The angle between muscle fiber in musculus flexor digitorum superficialis and the longitudinal axis of muscle strip was big. 80% muscle fiber in sartorius was equa1 to the length of the muscle bridge. Muscle fiber in the musculus flexor digitorum superficialis was shorter than the length of muscle strip. Muscle fiber in the musculus flexor digitorum superficialis was thick, whereas muscle fiber in sartorius was thin. There were significantly differences in transverse area of muscle fiber in the two kinds of muscle bridges (P

Department of rheumatology and immunology is a compulsory training department for the standardization training of the residents. However, it has been noted that the residents often ignore the importance of rheumatology. They are usually short of communication skill with the patients and theoretical knowledge. They often have high error rate in the clinical work and training their clini-cal skills and thinking ability is very difficult in the actual work. All of these problems may decrease the training quality and make the training a mere formality. Therefore, in order to carefully implement resident standardization training, a set of specific training programs has been developed, involving in theory of knowledge, practice standardization and comprehensive quality training. With these training programs, the quality and efficiency of the residents' training has greatly improved.
