Objective To study the type, characteristics, common complications of the cranio-cerebral injury and assessment for the body impairment in victims involved in road traffic accidents. Method Data from 862 cases with cranio-cerebral injury in road traffic accidents were collected and were statistically analyzed according to injured body part, complication, the type of complications and the severity of injury. Results Compound cranio-cerebral injuries were sustained in 276 cases, brain contusion in 192 cases, skull fracture in 79 cases, intracranial hemorrhage in 91 cases, and scalp injury in 224 cases. The chief complications were identified as hydrocephalus (19,2.20%), epilepsy (l6,1.86%), hemiplegia (14, 1.62%), decerebrate cortical syndrome (12,1.39%). Conclusion Among the cranio-cerebral injuries sustained in the road traffic accidents, compound injury was the commonest insult, in which serious cerebral contusion was the major type of injury. The complications following cranio-cerebral injury should be diagnosed strictly according to the diagnostic standard and identification time, which should be differentiated from the other related diseases.

To study the relationship between the position and the severity of injury and the rate of disbility in the road traffic accidents(RTA).3547 RTA cases occurred in the downtown area in Wuhan from 1997 to 1999 year were investigated and analyzed.1792(50 52%)cases with disability were assessed. The rates of disability caused by the peripheral nerve and ear injury were the highest,90 00% and 83 30%,respectively,while those caused by the soft tissue injury was the lowest. The rates of IX X and I V grade disablility were 78 74%,4 41%,respectively.Our study suggests that the rate of disability evaluation is not coincident with the position of injury. The degree of disability might be influenced directly by treatment.Degree of IX X grade of disability were the commonest, while the I V grade of disability was the least.Grade I disability was only seen in injury of brain and spinal cord.

Objective Review the epidemiology, injuries and assessments for body impairment on the injured children and teenagers in road traffic accidents (RTAs). Methods The data of 256 cases of assessment for body impairment of the injured children and teenagers in RATs was studied retro spectively. Results Boys were injured more than girls, mainly 6-18 years of age. RATs occurred mostly in 10-12a.m and 4-6p.m. The types of vehicles were mostly car and wagon. The commonest accidents were injury of pedestrians. The sites of injures were mainly head and extremities, the commonest injures were fracture, contusion and wound, the degree of internal organ injuries was relatively slight, the fracture of lower extremities was far more often than the upper extremities. Most of the injuries were assessed to be of medial injury. In most of the cases the rate of disability was evaluated to be lighe (33.2%), in which Ⅸ , Ⅹ grade were the commonest. Conclusion The criterion of assessment for body impairment of the injured in RTAs should be broadened properly, some special items for children and teenagers should be added.

Objective To explore the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts from 2 sources co-cultured with SD rat Schwann cells(SCs) . Methods Bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) were obtained by washing the femoral and tibial bone marrow cavities in SD rats. Osteoblast differentiation of the third passage of BMSCs was induced by incubation in osteogenic medium. Primary rat calvarial osteoblasts were obtained by digestion of the calvarial bone in one day old SD rats. The cells were cultured in DMEM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum(FBS) . SCs of passage 2 were obtained by digestion of sciatic nerve. The SCs were identified by S-100. The proliferation of 2 kinds of osteoblasts co-cultured with SCs was tested using 96 co-culture plate by methyl thiazdyl tetrazolium(MTF). Real-time PCR was used to test the osteoblast differentiation through co-culturing with SCs in 3 d and 7 d. The osteoblasts were implanted in the subtus chamber. The SCs were implanted in the superior chamber. Results SCs enhanced significantly the proliferation of calvarial osteoblasts at 7 time points. The expression levels of OPN mRNA, OCN mRNA, ALP mRNA, and BMP-2 mRNA of the osteoblasts were significantly lower in the experiment group than in the control group in 3 d and 7 d. SCs also enhanced significantly the proliferation of the induced osteoblasts in 5 d, 7 d and 9 d. The expression levels of OPN mRNA, OCN mRNA, ALP mRNA, and BMP-2 mRNA of the induced osteoblasts were significantly higher in the experiment group than in the control group in 3 d and 7 d, except the level of ALP mRNA in 7 d.Conclusions The BMSCs-induced osteoblasts cocultured with SCs may be used as seed cells to construct neurotized tissue engineered bone.

This study explored the possibility of using event-related potentials (ERP) for the measurement of picture-recognition memory and examined its correlation with the Chinese Wechsler Memory Scale-revised (WMS-RC) in patients with memory disorder caused by severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI). The subjects included 20 sTBI patients with memory disorder and 22 healthy individuals. Memory function was measured by using WMS-RC. Behavioral and ERP responses were recorded on-line during performance on a battery of picture recognition and the responses were analyzed off-line for recognition memory effects. Mean memory quotient (MQ) of patients with sTBI was significantly lower than that of the control group. Mean reaction time (RT) was significantly longer and the mean correctness rate (CR) of picture recognition was significantly lower in sTBI group than that of the controls. In controls, the main components of average ERP of picture recognition includes two positive-going waves, designated as P(170) and P(500), that appear 170 ms and 500 ms after stimulation when the subject could later successfully recall and recognize the pictures. P(500) amplitude of target stimulus was significantly higher than that of non-target stimulus. Compared to controls, P(500) responses of sTBI group were significantly delayed in latency (P<0.001) and lower in amplitude (P<0.001). P(500) latency showed significant negative correlation with MQ and the scores of "addition", "visual recognition", "picture recall", "visual reproduction" and "tactile memory" in WMS-RC. ERP of picture recognition provides a neurophysiological approach to directly assess memory impairment, and P(500) may serve as a helpful index for memory disorder caused by sTBI in forensic practice.

Objective To investigate the preventive effect of OEC management model on lower limb deep venous thrombosis (DVT) among gastrointestinal tumor patients after tumor resection. Methods We chose the gastrointestinal examination data from June 2012 to January 2013 as a baseline, the survey results as the control group, and the results of the 6 months of the implementation of OEC management mode as the observation group. We compared the incidence of DVT, the DVT related knowledge control among patients and relatives, the file establishment of thrombosis prevention. Results There were 11 cases of observation group suffered DVT in all 873 patients of observation group, comparing with 31 cases of total 778 patients in the control group with statistical difference between two groups (χ2 = 12. 310,P < 0. 01). Because of DVT, the medical tangles were 7 cases in the observation group and 23 cases in the control group (χ2 = 10. 697,P < 0. 01). In the observation group, the DVT related knowledge and safe quality of DVT prevention acquired (94. 11 ± 3. 14), (95. 33 ± 3. 07) higher than (84. 51 ± 4. 08), (83. 19 ± 4. 62) in the control group (t = 14. 512, 19. 647, respectively;P < 0. 01). The cause of DVT forming were the same in two groups including advanced age, braking, medical history of thrombosis and surgery (P > 0. 05). Conclusions For patients with gastrointestinal tumor operation, OEC management model has good preventive effect on the formation of deep venous thrombosis of lower extremity.
