Objective To explore the prevalence of poor behaviors and factors among patients with type 2 diabetes in urban areas of Guangzhou.Method Self-designed questionnaire was conducted among 369 patients with type 2 diabetes and factors on poor behaviour were analysed by binany logistic regression. Results Among 369 subjects with type 2 diabetes,80 cases(21.7%)currently smoked,41(11.1%)currently used alcohol and 65(16.9%)were lack of physical activity in leisure time.Multiple logistic regression analysis indicated that female,diabetes-related knowledge and health demands were significantly and negatively associated with smoking, alcohol use and the lack of physical activity; compared with unmarried cases, those who got married, divorced or loosed spouse significantly had the higher risk of smoking, one who got married had the lower risk of using alcohol; the cases with aged and high family income had the lower risk of lack of physical activity in leisure time. Conclusion There were a higher prevalence of poor lifestyle behaviors among these patients with type 2 diabetes, and there was a significant difference of the poor lifestyle behaviors in those with different characteristics, and the cases with good diabetes-related knowledge well encouraged them giving up the poor lifestyle behaviors.

Objective To explore the correlations and status of self-management level and the quality of life of patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis. Method The self-management behavior rating scale and World Health Organization Quality of Life-brief (WHOQOL-BREF) were used among 59 patients undergoing hemodialysis for the investigation. Results The score by WHOQOL-BREF was (40.56 ± 6.15) and that by the self-management behavior rating scale was (86.99 ± 16.41). The self-management level and the quality of life were positively correlated. Conclusion The measures including enhancing fluid intake, improving patient's compliance, encouraging them to actively participate in physical exercise and social activities can be done to improve their self-management and ultimately improve their quality of life.

Objective To investigate the effect of C reactive protein on receptor of advanced glycation end-products protein (RAGE) and mRNA expression in human endothelial cells. Methods Human saphenous vein endothelial cells (HSVECs) were incubated with CRP. RAGE protein levels were determined by flow cytometry, and RAGE mRNA levels were assessed by RT-PCR. Results (1)Compared with control group (100%), CRP caused a significant increase in RAGE protein expression at a dose as low as 5 ?g/mL (175.2%?8.1%, P0.05). Conclusion C-reactive protein upregulates RAGE protein and mRNA expression in human endothelial cells in a dose and time dependent manner.

AIM: To evaluate the growth-inhibitory effects of NS-398, a selective cyclooxygenase-2 inhibitor, in human colon cancer HT-29 cells and its possible mechanisms. METHODS: MTT assay was applied to detect the cell proliferation. Flow cytometry was performed to detect apoptosis rate and cell cycle. RT-PCR was used to detect the expression of bcl-2 mRNA and bax mRNA. Alteration of cytoskeleton component F-actin was observed by confocal laser scanning microscope. RESULTS: NS-398 could inhibit growth of HT-29 cells in dose-and time-dependent manners. Flow cytometry revealed that NS-398 could induce apoptosis and cause G0/G1 arrest of HT-29 cells in a dose-dependent manner. After 72 h incubation with NS-398 at different concentrations, the expression level of bcl-2 mRNA was lowered and the ratio of bcl-2 to bax was decreased in HT-29 cells. F-actin was mainly distributed around nuclei forming annular structure in HT-29 cells. After exposure to NS-398, the annular structure around nuclei disappeared and fluorescence intensity of F-actin decreased obviously. CONCLUSION: NS-398 can inhibit the growth effectively and induce apoptosis in HT-29 cells in vitro, which is associated with the down-regulation of bcl-2 to bax ratio and the disruption of cytoskeleton.

Objective To investigate the effects of Tanshinone Ⅱ A (extracted from Chinese herb medicine Salvia miltiorrhiza Bge.) on ventricular arrhythmias of rabbit hearts induced by ischemia in order to illuminate its mechanism of anti-arrhythmia.Methods Thirty rabbits were randomly (random number)divided into normal group, ischemic group and Tanshinone Ⅱ A group.Model of wedge shaped mass of rabbit left ventricular myocardium with coronary perfusion was prepared, and then by using floating glassy microelectrode, the trans-mural ECG,QT interval, the trans-mural dispersion of re-polarization (TDR) and trans-membrane action potentials from both endocardium and epicardium were simultaneously and wholly recorded. The incidence of ventricular arrhythmia in myocardium was observed after ischemia for thirty min. Results Under the condition of acute ischemia, compared with normal group, the incidence of ventricular arrhythmia and TDR were significantly increased in ischemia group (P < 0.01),while incidence of ventricular arrhythmia and TDR were significantly reduced in tanshinone ⅡA group compared with ischemia group (P < 0.05).The incidences of ventricular arrhythmia in normal, ischemia and Tanshinone Ⅱ A groups were 0/10,9/10 and 2/10 respectively. Conclusions Tanshinone Ⅱ A prevents ventricular arrhythmia and reduces TDR significantly in ischemic rabbit hearts.

This study was aimed to evaluate the hemostatic effect and mechanism of action for water decoction of Blumea megacephala (Randeria) Chang et Tseng in order to understand its influence to the liver function. The glass slides method and capillary tube method were used in the measurement of the coagulation time (CT). And the tail-cutting method was used to measure the bleeding time (BT), prothrombin time (PT), activated part clotting live en-zyme time (APTT), thrombin time (TT), content of plasma fibrinogen (FIB), platelet count (PLC), plasma complex cal-cium time (PRT), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate transaminase (AST). The results showed that intragastric administration with different doses of water decoction of Blumea megacephala (Randeria) Chang et Tseng (6.7 g·kg-1, 13.4 g·kg-1, 26.8 g·kg-1) can reduce CT and BT of mice. And intragastric administration with different doses of wa-ter decoction of Blumea megacephala (Randeria) Chang et Tseng (4.7 g·kg-1, 9.4 g·kg-1, 18.9 g·kg-1) can produce different degrees of impact on PT, APTT, TT and PRT of rats. Certain dose of water decoction of Blumea megacepha-la (Randeria) Chang et Tseng can reduce ALT and AST. It was concluded that Blumea megacephala (Randeria) Chang et Tseng had the hemostatic effect and its mechanism of action may be through the activation of the intrinsic and extrinsic coagulation system. There was no obvious damage to the liver.

AIM: To study the anti-invasive effect of NS-398 on colon cancer cell line HT-29 in vitro an its regulation by CD44v6 and nm23-H1 genes. METHODS: Flow cytometry was used to detect the expression of COX-2 and CD44v6 in HT-29 cells. MTT was used for cell survival rate tests. The modified Boyden chamber model was used for quantitative invasion assay. RT-PCR was used to detect the expression of nm23-H1 mRNA. RESULTS: Flow cytometry analysis showed that COX-2 was positive in HT-29 cells. NS-398 had significant inhibitory effects on invasion of HT-29 cells, which had no relation with its cytotoxicity. NS-398 down-regulated the expression of CD44v6 and up-regulated the expression of nm23-H1 mRNA. CONCLUSION: NS-398 has an anti-invasive effect on HT-29 cells in vitro. Down-regulation of CD44v6 and up-regulation of nm23-H1 may be its underlying mechanisms.
