The susceptibility of Oncomelania hupensis to Schistosoma japonicum has been shown to be very variable from population to population. This study was undertaken to relate this vari-ation in susceptibility to genetic variability. A total of 33 populations of O. hupensis from sev-eral wide spread localities in mainland China were collected. Snails of all populations were ex-posed in groups to miracidia (20 miracidia per snail) of one laboratory strain of S. japonicum. Infection rate varied from zero to 93. 9%. Population genetic study was carried out by using horizontal starch gel electrophoresis with the 12 specific enzyme systems. A total of 17 genet-ically interpretable loci were observed,7 of these were polymorphic loci. They were Ap,Est -4,Est -5,Got ,Mdh -2,Idh -2 ,Xdh. Allele frequencies were calculated for each population. For logistic regression analysis,susceptibility of the population was scored as 0 when no snail became infected or as 1 when infection rate was more than 0%. Variation in susceptibility was analysed by logistic regression models with genotype frequencies of the 7 polymorphic loci as independent variables. In order to identify the most important factors, both forward and backward stepwise procedures were performed. Results showed that only one variable (genotype frequency of Mdh - 2) entered into the model with a regression coefficient of 13. 706 9 and a constant of -8. 740 9. Results also showed the established model fitted the data well in goodness of fit test,and 93.9% of the populations were correctly classified. It is suggested that a close linkage exists between Mdh-2 gene locus and the susceptibility of O. hupensis.

The integrated strategy for schistosomiasis control with focus on infectious source control,which has been imple?mented since 2004,accelerated the progress towards schistosomiasis control in China,and achieved transmission control of the disease across the country by the end of 2015,which achieved the overall objective of the Mid? and Long?term National Plan for Prevention and Control of Schistosomiasis(2004- 2015)on schedule. Then, the goal of schistosomiasis elimination by 2025 was proposed in China in 2014. To achieve this new goal on schedule, we have to address the key issues, and implement precision control measures with more precise identification of control targets, so that we are able to completely eradicate the po?tential factors leading to resurgence of schistosomiasis transmission and enable the achievement of schistosomiasis elimination on schedule. Precision schistosomiasis control,a theoretical innovation of precision medicine in schistosomiasis control,will pro?vide new insights into schistosomiasis control based on the conception of precision medicine. This paper describes the definition, interventions and the role of precision schistosomiasis control in the elimination of schistosomiasis in China,and demonstrates that sustainable improvement of professionals and integrated control capability at grass?root level is a prerequisite to the imple?mentation of schistosomiasis control,precision schistosomiasis control is a key to the further implementation of the integrated strategy for schistosomiasis control with focus on infectious source control, and precision schistosomiasis control is a guarantee of curing schistosomiasis patients and implementing schistosomiasis control program and interventions.

Pharmacological actions of praziquantel against schistosome adult worms are thought to be directly linked to the disruption of Ca2+ homeostasis. The voltage-gated Ca2+ channel is an important factor in regulating the intracellular Ca2+ level. Studies have revealed that Ca2+ channel subunits may be the target for the action of praziquantel. This review summarizes the progress on the structure and function of the Ca2+ channel of Schistosoma spp and other Platyhelminths as well as the role of Ca2+ channel in action of praziquantel.

In order to increase the recognition of intestinal parasitic infections in AIDS, this article reviews the common intestinal parasites co-infected in HIV carriers and AIDS patients, namely, Cryptosporidium spp., microsporidia, Giardia lamblia, and Strongyloides stercoralis, referring to aetiology, epidemiology, clinical features, diagnosis and prevention.

A total of 13 allozymes of 7 populations of Oncomelania snails trom 7 provinces in the mainland China were examined by horizontal starch gel electrophoresis. Results demonstrated that out of 17 loci examined, 10 were monomorphic loci: Aldh,Ao,G6pd ,Gpdh,Hbdh,Ldh, Sdh,Est-2,Est-3,and Est-6,and 7 were polymorphic loci:Est-4,Est-5,Xdh,Mdh,Idh,Got and Ap. Banding pattern showed that six enzymes were polymorphic accounting for 46.15 % (6/13) of total enzyme systems examined. Results indicated that a certain of relative relation-ship was existed along with the significant variation presented based on their environment and location among the 7 populations of snails from the mainland of China. It was revealed that the 7 polymorphic loci were the important loci affecting the gentic variation in the differ-ent populations of Oncomelania spp.

Flood damage is one of the ordinary natural calamities. The areas of middle and down of the Yangtze River and its south are the endemic area of schistosomiasis. As the flood damage,it causes property loss,and harm public and people health severely even. This paper aims at the status of catastrophic flood damage again in the Yangtze River basin ,analyzes the impact of schistosomiasis transmission by it,and indicates that at present,the process of schistosomiasis control in China is marching from transmission control to transmission interruption and elimination,but the frequent flooding exacerbates Oncomelania hupen?sis snail breeding area and schistosomiasis source spreading,which may influence,in a certain extent,the realization of the goal of schistosomiasis control in China. We should timely assess and monitor the impact and risk of schistosomiasis transmission by flood damage,and give the early warning and adopt emergency handling measures in time. This paper also proposes the disas?ter prevention measures according to flood damage stages(the early,middle,later,and post?flood)and the occurrence and de?velopment of damage and endemic situation,so as to control the risk and damage of the disease transmission in a high limit,to consolidate the current achievements of schistosomiasis prevention and control and guarantee the realization of the goal of schisto?somiasis interruption and elimination in China on the schedule.

Based on the review of status of schistosomiasis transmission and surveillance in P.R. China,this article analyzed the present challenges in the surveillance on schistosomiasis. The focus on schistosomiasis surveillance and the needs for improv-ing surveillance system after the achievement of transmission control of schistosomiasis were explored.

The paper reviewed the project management model and its evolution in the national schistosomiasis control in China at different stages.The key factors impacting the progress of the control activities were analyzed by introducing the concept of project management,and the principles,i.e.objective management,temporal management,cost-effectiveness management,and quality management,that would have to be complied with in the future control activities were put forward,so as to accelerate the elimination of schistosomiasis in China.

Objective To investigate the clinical effects and safety of spiral stone basket assisted with FURL in the treatment of unilateral upper ureteral stones for diameter>1.0 cm. Methods 140 patients with unilateral upper ureteral stones for diameter>1.0 cm from January 2012 to December 2015 were randomly divided into control group (70 patients) with FURL used alone and observation group (70 patients) with spiral stone basket assisted application on the basis of control group;the perioperative clinical indicators, the lithotripsy success rate, the stone clearance rate, the stone removal rate and the postoperative complication incidence of both groups were compared. Results The operation time of observation group was signiifcantly longer than control group (P<0.05). There was no signiifcant difference in the blood loss volume in operation and hospitalization time between 2 groups (P>0.05). The lithotripsy success rate and the stone clearance rate of observation group was signiifcantly higher than control group (P<0.05). The stone removal rate of observation group was signiifcantly lower than control group (P<0.05). The postoperative complication incidence of observation group was no difference between 2 groups (P> 0.05). The total treatment expenses of observation group was signiifcantly fewer than control group (P<0.05). Conclusion Spiral stone basket assisted with FURL in the treatment of unilateral upper ureteral stones for diameter>1.0 cm can efifciently higher the stone removal effects, reduce the stone removal risk and not increase the postoperative complications incidence.

Objective To assess the academic influence of schistosomiasis control and research institutions in China. Meth-ods The papers (including original articles and reviews) pertaining to schistosomiasis in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)of Web of Science(WOS)during the period from 2002 to 2012 were searched. The number of published papers,h index and citation frequencies of the papers of Chinese institutes and authors were analyzed by a bibliometric method,and the academic influences of the institutes and authors were assessed according to the number of published papers and h index. In addition,the scientific knowledge network map was plotted by using the CiteSpace II software to analyze the inter-institution academic collabora-tion network. Results From 2002 to 2012,totally 610 papers pertaining to schistosomiasis were published by Chinese scholars, accounted for 16.7%of the published papers in global,and the quantity increased year by year. The number of published papers and h index of the National Institute of Parasitic Diseases(NIPD),China Center for Disease Control and Prevention(China CDC) were 114 and 27,respectively,both of which were ranked at the first position among all the Chinese institutes,and in the academ-ic collaboration network,the NIPD played a central and dominate part. Xiao-Nong Zhou with the h index of 17 became the out-standing academic leader in the research field of schistosomiasis control. Conclusions Both number of published papers in SCIE and h index of the Chinese institutes for schistosomiasis control are far inferior to the leading institutions in the world. It suggests that when strengthening the research and control of schistosomiasis,we should pay an attention to the output and sharing of the control experience and achievements.
