1.Research Progress on the Action of Praziquantel on Voltage-gated Ca~(2+) Channel in Schistosomes
Chinese Journal of Parasitology and Parasitic Diseases 1987;0(01):-
Pharmacological actions of praziquantel against schistosome adult worms are thought to be directly linked to the disruption of Ca2+ homeostasis. The voltage-gated Ca2+ channel is an important factor in regulating the intracellular Ca2+ level. Studies have revealed that Ca2+ channel subunits may be the target for the action of praziquantel. This review summarizes the progress on the structure and function of the Ca2+ channel of Schistosoma spp and other Platyhelminths as well as the role of Ca2+ channel in action of praziquantel.

Objective To observe the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), its tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase (TIMP-1), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and contents of nitric oxide (NO) in the ocular tissues of Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats with endotoxin induced uveitis(EIU). Methods Ninety SD rats were randomly divided into experimental (81 rats) and control group (9 rats). The model of EIU was induced in rats in experimental group by injecting with lipoplysaccharide (LPS) 200 ?l into the hind feet pads, while the rats in the control group were not injected. Nine rats were executed 0, 6, 12, 18, 24, 48, 72, 96 hours and 7 days, respectively, after injecting with LPS; the NO content and concentration of protein in the aqueous humor in blood plasma, aqueous humor, and uveal tissues were detected. The expressions of MMP-9, TIMP-1 and iNOS in the ocular tissues were detected by immunohistochemistry, and the average absorbance (A) value was evaluated by computer medical image analysis system. Results iNOS, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 expressed in the epithelial cells of iris and ciliary body and exudated inflammatory cells of rats. The concentration of protein in the aqueous humor, the contents of NO in blood plasma, aqueous humor, and uveal tissues, and A value of MMP-9 had obvious relativity with the inflammatory extent, while no positive correlation was found between the inflammatory extent and the A value of iNOS and TIMP-1. Expression of iNOS was found 6 hours after injection, reached the peak after 12 hours, and then dropped gradually. The expression of TIMP-1 could be seen 24 hours after injection, and reached its peak after 72 hours. Conclusion The content of NO and expressions of iNOS, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 changes from the beginning and during the development of EIU, which suggests that NO, iNOS, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 are involved in the pathologic process of EIU.

BACKGROUND:To ensure the catheter position is very important for interventional catheters. In emergency, rapid and accurate catheter insertion is required. Ultrasound can real-time track the movement of catheters in vivo. It is safe to patient, which has exhibited a bright future in catheter placement. OBJECTIVE: To compare the current methods for improving ultrasonic localization methods and to prospect the future development and improvement of real-time ultrasonic localization of catheters in vivo. METHODS: Literature search was carried out based on PubMed (1990-01/2015-04) and Espacenet with the key words of catheter, ultrasonic guidance, ultrasound localization, enhanced localization for the initial retrieval of relevant articles. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:To improve the image quality and increase the accuracy of catheter placement by ultrasound, recent efforts have been focused on two paths. One is to improve the resolution of ultrasonic images by enhancing ultrasound equipment or ultrasonic guidance system. The other is to modify catheter itself to obtain high acoustic impedance differential and improve its echogenicity. The latter approach can be potentialy applied in al kinds of catheters and is more economical and practical. Therefore, in future researches, innovation and design of catheter materials for catheter fabricating wil play an important role in promoting the real-time ultrasonic localization of catheters.

BACKGROUND: A novel biodegradable Mg-Zn alloy is designed which the density and the Young's modulus are proximal to human bone. At the same time, it depletes the toxicity of aluminium and rare earth element in commercial magnesium alloys. OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Mg-Zn alloy (Mg-6%Zn) on the integrin βi expression of preosteoblasts MC3T3-E1. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A contrast study was performed at the Central Laboratory of the Sixth People's Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University between March and May 2008. MATERIALS: The Mg-6% Zn was prepared by School of Materials Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which the density was 1.82 g/cm~3 and the Young's modulus was nearly 44 GPa. Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) was used as the controls. MC3T3-E1 cells were provided by Chinese Academy of Science Type Culture Collection. METHODS: The cell attachment was observed after cultured with Mg-Zn and PLLA at 2, 24 and 48 hours under scanning electron microscope; the integrin β1 mRNA expression of MC3T3-E1 cultured with Mg-Zn and PLLA was estimated by real-time fluorescent quantitative polymerase chain reaction (real-time PCR) at days 1, 3, 6, 9,12 and 15 after culture. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The MC3T3-E1 cells attachment on the material surface and the integrin β1 mRNA expression. RESULTS: MC3T3-E1 cell adhesion was better on the Mg-Zn alloy surfaces than on the PLLA surface; The integrin (31 mRNA of osteoblasts on Mg-Zn kept on expressing during experiment and increased with time (P < 0.01), but there was no significantly difference between the two groups at the same time (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: MC3T3-E1 cell adhesion is better on the Mg-Zn alloy surfaces than on the PLLA surface, but it is not mediated by inducing the integrin p1 mRNA expression.

Chinese Journal of Lung Cancer 2010;13(5):488-493
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVEThe aim of this study is to analyze lung cancer epidemiological trend and estimate lung cancer burden in China.
METHODSLung cancer age specific mortality and incidence rate ratios in different areas and sexes were obtained from national cancer registration database in 2004 and 2005. Cancer crude mortalities were retrieved from the database of the third national death survey, 2004-2005. Age specific incidence rates of lung cancer were calculated using mortality and M/I ratios. Annual percent change (APC) was estimated by log regression model using Joint Point software by analyzing pooled lung cancer incidence data from 10 cancer registries from 1988 to 2005.
RESULTSThe total estimated new cases and deaths of lung cancer in 2005 were 536 407 and 475 768 which were higher in male than in female. There was 1.63% increase of lung cancer incidence per year from 1988 to 2005, however, the trend showed a slowdown by 0.55% annually after adjusted by age.
CONCLUSIONLung cancer is one of major health issues in China and the burden is getting serious. Ageing population is main cause for increasing incidence and mortality of lung cancer. Effective cancer prevention and control is imperative. Especially, tobacco control should be carried out in statewide.

Chinese Journal of Nephrology 2009;25(2):101-105
Objective To compare the efficacy of continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and hemodialysis (HD) on polycystic kidney disease (PKD) patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Methods Retrospective analysis was made on 29 patients with PKD who carded out dialysis therapy for over 3 months in our department from January 2001 to December 2007. They were divided into the CAPD group (10 cases, 34.5%) and HD group (19 cases, 65.5%). Ten cases of non-PKD CAPD patients were randomly selected as the control, who matched the CAPD group in terms of age and gender. The patient information was recorded, such as general data, initial dialysis data, comphcations, survival time, quit of dialysis or death, etc. Kaplan-Meier method and Log-rank test were adopted to analyze the survival rate. Results The survival rates of 1-, 3- and 5-year for the CAPD group were 90%, 75% and 25% respectively, while for the HD group were 94.4%, 67.6%, and 48.3%, and for the control were 83.3%, 44.4% and 22.2% respectively, with no significant differences among 3 groups (P>0.05). group and the control were quite similar. The incidence of peritonitis for the CAPD group (0.62 times/patient year) was similar to that for the control (0.30 times/patient year)(P>0.05). The duration of the lust peritonitis[(23.5±4.0) months vs (20.0±15.8) months] and the catheter exit-site infection (0 time vs 1 time) for two groups were similar as well (P>0.05). One patient had hernia in CAPD group and no patient in control group had hernia. The incidence of peritoneal dialysate leakage was similar between these two groups. In the HD group, two patients (10.5%) had cerebral hemorrhage resulting in death, and 10 patients (52.6%) had cystic hemorrhage, 5 out of whom underwent operation due to repeated cystic hemorrhage and 2 cases received unilateral nephrectomy because of severe hemorrhage. No patient in CAPD group had cerebral hemorrhage but 1 patient (10%) had cystic hemorrhage and recovered after conservative treatment. The hemorrhage complication incidence of CAPD group was significantly lower than that of HD group (P<0.05). Conclusions The prognosis and complication incidence in PKD and non-PKD patients treated with CAPD are similar. The prognosis of PKD patients treated with CAPD or HD is also similar, and the risk of hemorrhage complications of PKD patients treated with CAPD may be decreased compared with those treated with HD. PKD patients can choose HD or PD as the initial therapy of ESRD unless existence of hernia or intolerance. PKD is not the contraindication of PD.

Objective To identify the correlation between hypergnmmaglobulinemia (hyper-IgG) and renal involvement in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome (Pss). Methods The data of all patients admitted to hospital with the diagnosis of Pss were retrospectively analyzed. One way ANOVA and Speannan's correlation analysis were used to compare the clinical characteristics, renal injuries, immunology tests and renal pathological changes between patients with or without hyper-lgG. Results One hundred and thirty Pss cases were enrolled including 8 males and 122 females. Their age ranged from 16 to 68 years with an average of (44±12) years. Forty-one patients with Pss underwent renal biopsy. The preys lenee of Drta and tubular protein was significantly higher in patients with hyper-IgG than those without(P<0.05). Spearman's correlation analysis showed a negative correlation between serum IgG levels and seral potassium level(r=-0.269,P<0.01).Protein electrophoresis results revealed predominantly tubular protein in the hyper-lgG group, on the other hand glomerular protein was found in the normal-IgG group (P<0.05). The occurrence of decreased C4 com-plement concentration was significantly higher in normal-lgG group (P<0.05); Spearman's correlation analysis for biopsied materials showed that there was no significant difference in the Tubular Index (TI) and Glomeru-lar Index(GI) between these two groups. Conclusion Tubular lesions, especially Drta, may be predominant and correlate with hypergammaglobulinemia. There is a correlation between hypergammaglo-bulinemia and the level of renal lesions. Renal acidification capacity in patients with hypergammaglobulinemia should be evaluated.
