Objective To observe the expression of oxidized purine nueleoside triphosphatase MTH2 in the hippocampi of senescence-accelerated mouse P8(SAMP8). Methods Randomly selected SAMP8 and its control strain SAMRl aged 1-,4-,8-and 12-month and performed immunohistochemisry and Western blot analysis to explore the expression changes of MTH2 in the 2 groups of mice. Results The MTH2 protein was detected in cytoplasm and nuclei of neurons throughout the whole hippocampus of SAMRl at all ages. There were no obvious changes of SAMR1 in both CA1 and CA3 subregions, but an age-related decline of MTH2 protein in both regions of SAMP8 was found. The optieal density(OD)value of Cal hippoeampus(0.0473),CA3 hippoeampus (0.0510)were significantly less in 8-month old mice than in the 4-month old[CA1:0.0619,CA3:0.06803(all P<0.05).By immunoblot analysis, the grey values of MTH2 expression were 0.529,0.313,0.032 in hippoeampus of 4-12 months-old SAMP8 mice, and significantly Iower than in the age-matched SAMR1 mice(all P<0.05). Conclusions MTH2 deficiency may be a new factor involved in the accelerated aging and in deficits of learning and memory ability in SAMP8.

[Objective]To retrospectively analyze the therapy comparison between the unilateral hinged external fixator assisting the internal fixation, soft tissue repair and reconstruction and routine surgery for elbow instability of fracture dislocation.[Method]A total of 117 cases of elbow fracture dislocation were collected from Jan. 2001 to Jun. 2005. Some patients were treated by unilateral hinged external fixator, and others were treated by routine surgery and casting external fixation. The JOA assessment was applied for the pain, function, arc of motion, articular instability and deformity of elbow joint before surgery and after operational follow-up. [Result]Eighty-six cases were followed up by telephone and mail appointment. The average follow-up time was 18.6 months (from the range of 8 months to 30 months). The function and arc of motion of two group patients were assessed by JOA in post-operational follow-up, showing statistical significant difference (P0.05). The total assessment score between two groups indicates statistical significant difference.[Conclusion]The operation in combination with unilateral hinged external fixator for treating elbow instability of fracture dislocation will enhance lateral stability of elbows, guaranteen early safe elbow function exercises, facilitate stable environment for ligaments healing, suggesting a good subsidiary operational method.

AIM To detect chemical components of the essential oil of Schisandra chinensis(Turcz.)Baill.. METHODS The essential oil was analyzed with GC/MS, heuristic evolving latent projections(HELP) resolution and overall volume integration method. RESULTS HELP method along with the data from GC/MS can be used to conduct the peak purity examination and resolution of overlapping peaks to obtain pure chromatogram and MS spectrum of each component. Fifty six components were separated and 49 of them were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed. All the components represent about 98.27% of the total content. CONCLUSION The resolved pure chromatogram and MS spectrum can greatly enhance the reliability of similar searches in the commercial MS database and thus contribute to the accuracy of the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the essential oil.

Objective To explore the effectiveness of whole genome amplification technology in DNA typing of trace samples. Methods Simulated trace samples which contain 1~20 cells were prepared by micromanipulation.Whole genome amplification was added before conventional PCR-STR typing step,to compare the effectiveness of PEP and MDA in DNA typing of trace samples from four aspects i.e.allele imbalance, allele drop-out,locus drop-out and pseudo allele (which contains the stutter peak). Results Amplification efficiency of MDA was higher than PEP method, but allele drop-out and pseudo allele were more frequently detected.Correct DNA typing rate of PEP is higher than MDA method, however, advantaged amplification of small fiagments DNA is more obvious. Conclusion MDA method is not suitable for the current STR typing. When the absolute amount of trace samples is quite small,we couldconsider using the PEP method to enhancethe sample quantity to meet the requirement of repeat testing. At the same time it could encounterthe failure of the large DNA fragments.

OBJECTIVE:
To evaluate the modified rhytidectomy incision in superficial parotidectomy.
METHOD:
Thirty-five patients with superficial parotid tumor were included in this study. A modified rhytidectomy incision often used in facial plastic surgery was used for superficial parotidectomy and subtotal superficial parotidectomy with preservation of facial nerve and great auricular nerve. The follow-up study included the exposed region, the cosmetic effect of this approach and the rate of complication.
RESULT:
All patients healed without salivary fistula, and were satisfied with this modified approach. Temporary paralysis of the marginal mandibular branch of facial nerve were found in five patients, and six patients felt insensible around earlobe after operation. They all recovered in 1 to 3 months after surgery, no recurrence was happened during follow-up in 36 to 60 months (median follow-up period was 48 months).
CONCLUSION
The modified rhytidectomy incision provided good exposure, had less complication and better cosmetic outcome.
