Objective　To provide the possible methods to relieve the symptoms of video display terminal users by diagnosing the visual problems.Methods　Several tests including primary eye care, tear break time (BUT), refractive analysis, facility of accommodation, phoria and FCC were done on 121 patients respectively.Results　In the 121 patients, 47 patients(39%) were accommodative failure, 66 patients(55%) were lag of accommodation checking with FCC, 53 patients (43.8%) were uncorrected presbyopia, 65 patients (53.7%) were break up time of tear film＜10s, 87 patients (71.8%) couldn't been corrected the refraction errors or the correction of refractive errors was unsatisfied, 24 patients(19.8%) were esophoria, 17 patients (14%) were exophoria, 8 patients (7%) were anisometropia. Conclusion　Proper accommodation training, amplitude correction of ametropia and presbyopia and relieving the symptoms of dry eye can to some extent solve the problems of VDT users.

Objective To establish the RP-HPLC method for the determination of myricetrin and quercitroside in Euphorbia Hirta L.Methods The ZORBAX SB-C18 (250 mm × 4.6 mm,5 μn) column was used,the mobile phase consisted of acetonitrile:0.1％ H3PO4(21 ∶ 79),the flow rate was 0.8 ml/min,the column temperature was 30℃ the detecting wavelength was at 256 nm.Results The cablibration curve was linear within a range of 0.013～0.26 mg/ml and 0.008～0.16 mg/ml,the average recovery was 99.1％,98.9％and the RSD was 0.91％,1.55％,respectively.Conclusion The method is simple,repeatable and accurate,it can be applied in quantitative determination of myricetrin and quercitroside in Euphorbia Hirta L..

Objective Development of eyeball is visually regulated by messengers that released from the retina, and research demonstrated that retinoic acid (RA) is the only extrinsic biochemical candidate that could act as a growth controller. Present study was designed to evaluate the RA system in retina of guinea pig eye with experimental form deprivation myopia. Methods The form deprivation myopia models were monocularly established in the 24 2-week-old guinea pigs by occluding the lateral eyes using white translucent hemispheres for two weeks, and the fellow eyes were as normal control. Refraction diopter was detected with streak retinoscopy after cycloplegia, and axial length and vitreous depth were calculated with Cinescan A/B ultrasonography before and 2 weeks after experiment. All animals were sacrificed and retina was dissected 2 weeks after experiment. The RA level in retina was delected by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The expressions of RA-binding proteins Ⅰ(CRABP-Ⅰ) and RA receptor-β(RAR-β) protein and mRNA were assayed by Western-blotting and Real-time PCR, respectively. The experiment and use of animals followed the Standard of Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. Results The spherical equivalent refraction was (+ 3. 00 ± 0. 75) D in the model group and (+ 2. 88 ± 0. 67) D in control eyes (t= 0. 672, P ＞ 0. 05), the ocular axial length was (7. 822 ± 0. 083) mm in model group and (7. 791 ±0.073) mm in control eyes before experiment (t = 0. 346, P ＞ 0. 05). In 2 weeks after experiment, the spherical equivalent refraction was (- 3. 82 ± 0. 13) D versus (1. 99 ± 0. 58) D and axial length was (8. 346 ± 0. 047) mm versus (7. 888 ± 0. 042) mm between model eyes and control eyes (t = 8. 376, P ＜ 0. 001; t = 3. 343, P ＜0. 05). No significant difference in the level of RA in retina before and after experiment (1. 394 ±0. 079 μg/g vs 1. 295 ±0. 023 μg/g) (t =0. 897, P ＞0. 05) but obviously elevated after experiment in model eyes compared with control eyes (2. 356 ± 0.098 μg/g vs 1.499 ±0.035 μg/g) (t =4. 934, P ＜0. 01). The expression of CRABP-Ⅰ and RAR-β mirrored these directional changes. Conclusion The RA system in retina is upregulated in the eye of guinea pig with form deprivation myopia. This findings suggests that RA may act as a messenger in the development of experimental myopia.

Objective: To investigate the preventive and theraputic effects of Astragalus and Angelica mixture(A&A)on renal tubulointerstitial fibrosis after unilateral ureteral obstruction(UUO)in rats and their mechanisms. Methods: UUO rats were randomly divided into Sham, UUO, A&A or ACEI groups. A&A, ACEI or the same amount of water was administered by gavage beginning 24 hours before UUO preparation and continued through ten days after UUO. Sera and the kidney tissues were collected from each group on the tenth day. Scr and BUN were measured. Trichrome staining, measurement of tubulo interstitial damage index and immunohistochemical studies localizing ? smooth muscle actin(? SMA), TGF ? 1, fibronectin(FN), laminin(LN)were carried out. Results: In UUO rats, the tubular interstitial damage index, the expressions of ? SMA, TGF ? 1, FN and LN were all increased compared with those of Sham group. The tubulo interstitial damage index had positive correlation with expressions of ? SMA, TGF ? 1, FN and LN. A&A significantly ameliorated deterioration of renal function, tubulo interstitial damage index and inhibited the over expressions of ? SMA, TGF ? 1, FN and LN in UUO rats. These anti fibrotic effects were similar to those affected by ACEI. Conclusion: In renal interstitial fibrosis induced UUO rats, A&A retard the progression of renal fibrosis and renal function deterioration by inhibiting myofibroblasts and suppressing TGF ? 1 expression, which may consequently result in a decreased production of extracellular matrix.

Ophthalmology belongs to microsurgical subject and anatomy is intricate. In clinical practice, students are required to skillfully use eye examination equipment. The foreign students from Medical School of Vienna University are eager to learn and know theoretical knowledge very well. Department of ophthalmology has developed specific and individualized teaching plans according to the characteristics and needs of foreign students. Through the configuration of high quality teachers, the practice teaching is ensured. Chinese and foreign students are encouraged to share their knowledge and form a study group. Opportunities for hands-on practice of ophthalmology are increased by using Wetlab condition. Problem-based heuristic teaching is used to stimulate students' learning initiative. Through these teaching measures, the students' quality of clinical practice has been enhanced, the teaching level of clinical ophthalmology has been improved and sustainable development has also been achieved.

Objective To investigate the influence of a combination of Chinese herbs,Astragalus membranaceus var.mongholicus and A ngelica sinensis (A&A)on the production and elimination of reactive oxygen species (ROS)and the underlying mechanism during the process of renal interstitial fibrosis in the obstructive kidneys of rats with unilateral ureteral obstruction(uuo).Method Male Wistar rats were randomly divided into control,sham,UUO and UAA (UUO+A&A)groups.The rats in UAA group were administered with A&A(14 g/kg)by oral gavage once daily:the ones in sham and UUO group were given with equal volumes of water.Three days after setting up models,pathological injury of renal tissue was evaluated.Level of total antioxidant capacity(T-AOC)and activity of CuZn superoxide dismutase(CuZn-SOD)in renal homogenates were measured bv spectrophotometry.Expression of NADPH oxidase subunits p47-phox,p22-phox and nintrotyrosine was analyzed by Western blot. Results Severe interstitial inflammatory cells infiltration, mild tubular atrophy and interstitial fibrosis were found in UUO group, which were alleviated by A&A administration. Compared to sham group, T-AOC of UUO group was not significantly changed, but the expression of the nitrotyrosine, NADPH oxidase subunits p47-phox and p22-phox was increased significantly (P<0.05). After A&A administration, T-AOC level was increased (2.5±1.1 vs 1.5±0.5, P<0.05) and the expression of nitrotyrosine was decreased (P< 0.05) in UAA group compared with UUO group. Additionally, the expression of p47-phox was reduced at day 3 (P<0.05), accompanied with a reduced expression of p22-phox (P< 0.05). CuZn-SOD activity was not significantly changed among the groups. Conclusion The inhibition of A&A in NADPH oxidase subunits p47-phox and p22-phox, which is responsible for reduction of oxidative stress, is associated with the alleviation of renal fibrosis in obstructive rat kidney.

Objective To observe the B- ultrasonic (B-US) renal changes of chronic aristolochic acid nephropathy (CAAN) patients and to determine its value in disease diagnosis. Methods The renal B-US data of 124 CAAN patients were retrospectively studied. The relationship between the B-US characteristics and the renal function was tested. Clinicopathological data of 19 CAAN patients underwent renal biopsy were compared with those of 18 patients with chronic tubulointerstitial nephropathy due to none-aristolochic acid causes (non-AAN-CTIN). Results The characteristics of renal B-US changes in CAAN patients included diminished parenchyma thickness (90.3%), atrophy of the kidney (62.90%) and asymmetrically shrinked kidneys (17.74%). Objective:To explore whether Chinese herbs Astragalus and Angelica mixture(A&A) have renoprotective effects on chronic renal failure in rats.Methods:5/6 nephrectomized kidney in rats was used as chronic renal failure model.Rats were randomly divided into four groups which included sham,Model,A&A and enalapril(Ena) groups.The remnant kidney was harvested after 2,4,8,12 weeks,and levels of serum creatinine(scr),urea and urinary protein excretion were measured using routine biochemical methods.The pathological lesions were observed by light microscope.The expressions of fibronectin(FN) and collagen Ⅳ(Col-Ⅳ) in glomeruli and interstitium were detected by immnuohistochemistry.Results:5/6 nephrectomized rats were presented with the characteristics of increasing scr and urea,persistent proteinuria at the end of the 2nd,4th,8th,12th weeks,respectively.They had increasing size of glomeruli with progressive proliferation of mesangial cells and mesangial matrix followed by glomerulosclerosis and progressive elevated expressions of FN and Col-Ⅳ.Compared with Model group,the administration of A&A could decrease urinary protein excretion for 34%,44%,25%,45% at the end of the 2nd,4th,8th and 12th weeks,respectively(P
