Objective To investigate the efficacy of low-dose retention enema for treating ulcerative colitis. Methods Eighty patients diagnosed with chronic recurrent ulcerative colitis were randomly divided into control group and observation group with equal number. The retention enema was used in the control group and the improved retention enema was used in the observation group. Enema was done once every night,10 days as a course of treatment in both groups. The two groups were compared in terms of liquid retention time, curative effect after two courses and patients’satisfaction degree with enema. Results The liquid retention time in the intestinal lumen in the observation group was significantly longer than that of the control group. The efficacy was significantly better than the control group.Patients satisfaction with enema in the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group (P<0.05).Conclusions The improved low-dose liquid enema is effective in the treatment of ulcerative colitis for its liquid retention time in the intestines. It is effective, comfortable, convenient, and likely to be accepted by patients.

By comparing the differences of " Decision of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress on the prohibition against narcotic drugs " and "Law of the People's Republic of China on Narcotics Control " and their implications for harm reduction, the article analyzed the ethical issues existing in applying harm reduction policy in HIV/AIDS prevention and control, and held that the new policy to promote the methadone use would play a major role for control of drug abuse and AIDS.

Objective To propose new policies and strategies that will optimize the transformation of medical research achievements at hospital level. Methods In this paper,we systematically analyzed the characteristics and influencing factors of the transformation of medical research achievements based on the status quo in our hospital. Results In our hospital as an example, major problems in the transformation of medical research achievements identified as low investment, low conversion rate, complex procedures,multi-links existed and more multi disciplinary cooperation needed. Conclusions The hospital can take some measurements to optimize the transformation of medical research achievements, such as more stream lined management of scientific research project, establishing and improve the platform for scientific research transfer, increasing the funding, strengthening cooperation among different disciplinaries, building a professional team to promote the transfer and so on.

Objective To investigate the therapeutic effects and mechanism of Okam on asthmatic mice. Methods The mice model of asthma was established with the egg albumen sensitization, and were treated with low and large doses of Okam for four weeks. The pathological changes of lung tissues were observed.Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the contents of matrix metalloproteinases-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor Metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) in the lung tissues. Results Gasp and inflammation in the lung tissues were significantly relieved in the test groups than that in the model group.MMP-9,TIMP-1 and MMP- 9/TIMP-1 ratios were significantly lowered in the test group than that in the model group. Conclusion The marine drug of Okam shows therapeutic effects on mice with asthma, which may be the result of reduced contents of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in the lung tissues and the correction of the imbalanced MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio.Okam is likely to be a new choice for the treatment of asthma.

Objective: To observe the effect of tripterygium polyglycosid(TP,雷公藤) on airway inflammation and remodeling in rats with asthma. Methods: Forty rats were randomly divided evenly into negative control group, positive control group, normal dose TP group(TPⅠ group) and small dose TP group(TPⅡgroup). The experimental model was induced by ovalbumin sensitization.Number of cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) was observed by immunocytochemical staining. The expressions of nuclear factor-?B(NF-?B),matrix metalloproteinases-9(MMP-9) and tissue of inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1(TIMP-1) were detected by immunohistochemistry method. Results: Compared with the negative control group, the counts of lymphocyte, neutrophilic leukocyte, macrophage and eosinocyte in BALF were elevated significantly, positive cell percentages of NF-?B, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in lung tissues increased greatly in positive control group, the differences being significant(all P

AIM: To investigate the changes of myocardium glycogen content and the relation ship between changes of the myocardial glycogen content and the myocardial function. METHODS: Male Wistar rats were placed in (hypoxia rats) and made to swim in (hypoxia swimming rats) a hypobaxic chamber simulating an altitude of 5 000 m above sea level. The content of myocardium glycogens was determined by colorimetry. RESULTS: The myocardium glycogen content of rats significantly reduced along with the prolongation of hypoxic exposure and approached to control level in hypoxia swimming rats. The myocardial function of right ventricule was improved significantly compared with control group. CONCLUSION: Moderate exercise (Swimming) is beneficial to hypoxic adaptation of rats under the condition of chronic hypoxia.

Objective To investigate the frequencies of CD4+CXCR5+T cells in the CD4+T cells of peripheral blood of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and the effect of glucocorticoid on it.Methods Frequencies of CD4+CXCR5+T cell were analyzed by flow cytometry in 45 active,20 inactive SLE patients and 20 healthy controls.Differences between groups and the effect of glucocorticoid were analyzed.Meanwhile, the expression of CXCR5 on CDI9+B cells was analyzed. Independent sample t test was used for statistical analysis between twogroups, ANOVA was applied for data analysis between 3 groups,,nonparameterical Spearman's analysis was used for correlation analysis and repeated measurement ANOVA were used to compare the parameters before and after treatment. Results The percentage of CD4+CXCR5+ in CD4+T cells was increased in patients with SLE compared with healthy controls[(16±7)% vs (12±3)%, P<0.01].It was increased in patients with active SLE [(18±7)%] compared with healthy controls (P<0.05) but there was no significant difference between inactive SLE[(11±4)%] and healthy controls(P>0.05). The percentage in patients with LN was higher than that in patients without LN, but without significant difference[(18±7)%vs (14±7)%, P=0.05 ]. The percentage of CD4+CXCR5+T cells was positively correlated with SLEDAI,the titer of ANA and level of ESR but negatively correlated with the level of C3 (P<0.05 for each). No correlation was found between duration and the levels of CRP and immunoglobulin.. The percentage in patients with high anti-dsDNA group was also higher than that of the low group, but no differences were found between anti-Sm antibody positive and negative groups neither between anti-SSA/SSB antibody positive and negative groups(P>0.05 for each). The expression level of CXCR5 on CD19+B cells in active SLE patients was lower than that of healthy controls[(85±11)% vs (94±3)%, P<0.05 ]. The percentages of CD4+CXCR5+T cells in 10 untreated active SLE patients were decreased at day 1,day 3 and day 7 after being treated with dexamethasone (20mg/d) when compared with those before the treatment (P<0.05 for each), but the percentages of CD19+CXCR5+B cells had no significant change (P>0.05 for each). Conclusion These results demonstrate that the abnormality of CD4+CXCR5+T cells may play an important role in the pathogenesis of SLE.
