Objective To analyze the causes and explore suitable treatments for the complica-tions induced by polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAHG) injection for augmentation rhinoplasty. Methods The causes of the complications of 52 cases who accepted PAHG injection for augmentation rhinoplas-ty were analyzed and summarized. All the patients were treated by surgical operations to remove the injected PAHG. Results The complications included infection, granuloma, skin ulceration, bad shape, pain and serious psychological stress. Each case had 1 to 4 complications. Satisfactory results were obtained after suitable treatments. Some cases had silicone or expanded polytetrafluoroethylene implant augmentation rhinoplasty at the same time or secondary to the PAHG removal. A few cases had sequelae and long time psychological stress or tend pain of nose. Conclusions The complications induced by PAHG injection for augmentation rhinoplasty are various, and may relate to the inherent character of PAHG and the anatomic features of the nasal soft tissue. Surgery can remove the PAHG as completely as possible, which is a better method to treat the complications of PAHG injection for augmentation rhinoplasty.

Objective To investigate the effects of cinnamaldehyde and citral on DNA and RNA of Aspergillus flavus and A. fumigatus cells and their mechanisms. Methods A. flavus and A. fumigatus were incubated on Czapeks agar plate (treated with cinnamaldehyde and citral at different concentrations) at 26.5 ℃ for 3—6 d. The normal and treated cells were observed by laser scanning confocal microscope (LSCM) and image analysis to describe the DNA and RNA levels by quantity and localization. Results DNA and RNA levels were changed greatly and multinucleate coniospores appeared in the treated cells. Conclusion Cinnamaldehyde and citral have directly or indirectly interfered the conventional synthesis of fungal hereditary DNA and RNA and normal differentiation of conidiophore in A. flavus and A. fumigatus, thus inhibiting the normal cell cycle and the growth and propagation of fungi.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the anti-phospholipid antibodies (APLs)and activated protein C resistance (APCR). Methods The response to activated protein C (APC) was studied by an APTT-based (clotting) assay with a Stago autoanalyzer and expressed as the ratio between the APTT obtained in the presence and absence of exogenous APC. APC sensitive ratio higher than 2 was regarded as APCR. Anti-?2-glycoprotein Ⅰ (?2GP-Ⅰ) antibody and anti-cardiolipin antibodies (ACL) were measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Lupus anticoagulant (LA) was tested by activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). Results The existence of LA and acquired APCR showed significant correlation (?2=16.332, P=0.008). Acquired APCR was significantly associated with the presence of anti-?2GP-Ⅰ antibody (?2=6.179, P=0.012), but not ACL. The presence of APCR was associated with an increased frequency of history of thromboembolic events and/or recurrent abortions (?2=7.347, P=0.01). Conclusion This study suggests that APCR is linked to the presence of LA and anti-?2GP-Ⅰ antibody. APLs may interfere with the activation of protein C. APCR phenotype may be a major risk factor for thrombophilia in patients with APLs. Combined detection of APLs has the potential value for predicting thrombosis.
