In order to find out an index for the assessment of chromium deficiency in diabetic patients, the contents of chromium in the hair of twenty-seven diabetic patients and sixty-three healthy subjects were determined. To measure esophageal manometric parameters in liver cirrhosis, patients with different liver function grades were chosen. In the normal control group ( n =72) gastrointestinal disease history and symptoms, abdominal surgery and injury history were all negative. In liver cirrhosis group ( n =94) liver cirrhosis was diagnosed by clinical picture or pathology, and their liver function in Child grade was: grade A, 38 cases and 8 had ascites; grade B, 37 cases and 20 had ascites; grade C, 19 cases and 18 had ascites. Taking no motility medicines within seven days before measurement, esophageal motility parameters of these subjects were taken by a Biolab System made by Sandhill Company. The data were analyzed with SAS statistical software. The results showed that from Child grade A to C, LESP in cirrhosis group reduced, relaxation pressure increased, and relaxation percentage become lower successively; from Child grade A to C, onset peristaltic wave velocity in upper esophageal body became slower, peristaltic contraction reduced, and abnormal contraction increased; from Child grade A to C, peristaltic wave amplitude reduced in lower esophageal body, and velocity of onset peristaltic wave velocity became slower, peristaltic contraction reduced, and abnormal contraction increased. It suggests that more severe injury in liver function, more serious impact in esophageal motility. At the same time complications of portal vein hypertention such as esophageal varices and ascites behave synergetically.

Objective To study the practicability and preliminary effect of intraluminal brachytherapy in treatment of malignant obstructive jaundice.Methods Intraluminal brachytherapy was performed in 4 patients who had been treated with biliary stent implantation. Results No complications related to intraluminal brachytherapy had happened.One patient was followed up by means of CT,showing reduction in tumor size. Conclusion Intraluminal brachytherapy is a safe and effective method in treating malignant tumor causing obstructive jaundice.

Objective To evaluate the value of event-related potential mismatch negativity(ERP-MMN)for diagnosis and prognosis of amnestic mild cognitive impairment(aMCI).Methods 181 people were enrolled in this study,including 102 aMCI patients and 79 normal people and all of them underwent the clinical symptom and performance of neuropsychologieal measures and cranium imaging and examination of MMN.aMCI patients were judged to progress to Alzheimer's disease(AD)or not by clinical symptom and performance of neuropsychological measures during 1 year follow-up period.Through analysis of peak latency (PL)and amplitude(Amp),the value of MMN in diagnosis of aMCI and normal subjects was assessed,judging aMCI progress to AD or not.Results In contrast to normal control subjects(NC),PL of MMN in subjects of aMCl was significantly longer and Amp was significantly shorter,PL of MMN(312.7±25.7)ms vs(285.1±28.8)ms(t=6.81,P<0.01),Amp(3.5 ±1.3)μV vs(4.7±1.1)μV(t=-6.37,P<0.01).Moreover,PL of MMN in subjects of aMCl which would progress to AD was significantly longer than of subjects of aMCI which would not progress,(332.2±24.1)ms vs(307.5 ±24.0)ms(t=2.75,P=0.007).However.significantly difference was not observed in Amp of MMN and neuropsychological measures between subjects of aMCI would progress and not.Conclusions MMN can be used in auxiliary diagnosis and judging prognosis of aMCI.It is appropriate when is required to reflect and monitor periodic cognitive state of subjects of aMCI.

To evaluate the influences of sclerotherapy and band ligation on esophageal motility, EVS and EVL were measured before and after treatment respectively. After sclerotherapy, lower esophageal sphincter pressure (LESP)and residual pressure were decreased while relaxa tion was increased , relaxation duration became shorter; band ligation only influenced LESP.After EVS, the amplitude of motor waves in the sites of EVS and lower esophagus body was reduced ,and peristaltic wave duration was prolonged ,velocity of propagating contractions became faster , band ligation made the peristaltic wave duration in the sites of EVS and lower esophagus body become shorter, abnormal contractions increased. After EVS, antiacid medicine should be ased to reduced pH of gastric and raised LESP, and drugs to increase esophageal motility should be used after band ligation.

Purpose:Home-made NiTi-stent was used in the study to observe the biological compatibility.Materials card Methods:Stents were implanted within the bile ducts,arteries,veins,bronchi of swine by surgery.Swine was killed according to the tie schedule to observe the patency of stents.Results:6 of 11 biliary stents were occluded completely,with only 5 stents partially patent.The degree of occlusion was related to the time period.10 of 11 femoral stents were patent,only 1 stent was occluded completely.1 of the only 1 venous stent was occluded completely,4 of 8 bronchial stants were patent.Epithlium tissues were found along the surfaces of stents.Both sides of the stents were covered by the epithelium cells partially and dominated by the proliferation of connective tissues and parenchymal cells of the organs.The constitution of proliferated tissues was related to the implanted time period of the stents.No connective tissues were found within two weeks,but obvious proliferation of connective tissues were found associated with lympheytic tissues.Conclusion:The dagree of surface covering of the home- made stent by epithelial the rate of was related to the diameters of the of and the lumceh stent implantation segment also the flow volume within the stent,and the period of stent implantation.Good results can be yielded by selecting the suitable stent and the implanting site.

A non-invasive acoustical system was developed for the measurement of transmission properties of acoustic waves in the hip joints. The instrumentation consisted of three sub-systems. An excitation system employed a vibratory force at the sacrum of the test subjects. A transduction system included a pair of identical microphones installed in the tubes of two stethoscopes, which were placed at the greater trochanters on both sides for picking up the acoustical signals transmitted across the hip joints. The data acquisition and analysis system was a portable signal analyzer with a program of dual channel digital filter for measuring the power of acoustical signal in 1/3-octave frequency bands. 27 normal adults, 20 normal pre-school children and 40 normal neonates were randomly selected for testing. Coherence function (CF) and discrepancy (D) was measured during the testing. Results from the three groups showed that there was a high coherence of the signals (CF > 0.9) and a small discrepancy (D < 3 dB) between bilateral hips in the frequency range of 200-315 Hz. For normal neonates, there was a wider frequency range of 160-315 Hz in which the acoustical signals maintained a high coherence (CF > 0.93) and a smaller discrepancy (D < 2 dB) was observed. This study showed that the development of the acoustical technique provided a practical method with objective parameters. The results obtained in this study can offer a baseline for further investigation of hip disorders particularly those related to structural abnormalities of the hip.

AIM: To determine the evolutionary pattern of parenchymal cell apoptosis in multiple organs early after intestinal ischemia-reperfusion(I/R) and its induction mechanisms and the role of apoptosis in triggering SIRS/MODS. METHODS: An I/R model was reproduced by clipping and releasing the superior mesenteric artery in rats and mice. Flow cytometry, electron microscope, DNA agarose gel electrophoresis, TUNEL method, fluorescent and Gomori's silver-HE staining were used to detect apoptosis. Distribution features of apoptotic parenchymal cells in multiple organs were observed. Immunohistochemical staining of HSP 70 and Bcl-2 were performd to study the induction mechanisms of apoptosis.RESULTS and CONCLUSION: 1. Damage of the liver, lung, gut and kidney was appeared in early phase of I/R. The percentages of apoptosis in parenchyma organs increased progressively. The percentages of cell necrosis increased with the prolonged I/R duration. 2. Percentages of apoptosis were much higher near the central veins of liver lobules, in the outer medulla of the kidney, and the antimescenteric border of intestinal mucosal epithelium because of ischemia. 3. The expression of HSP 70 increased and Bcl-2 reduced in the areas mentioned above because of hypoperfusion. 4. Apoptosis of I/R hepatocytes, splenocytes and thymocytes was obviously increased after Kupffer cell blockage with GdCl3, showing the functional state of Kupffer cells may play an important role in SIRS/MODS.

Objective To investigate the knowledge and willingness of genetic counseling and testing in blood relatives of breast cancer patients.Methods A total of 922 blood relatives of breast cancer patients finished our questionnaire.Data were devided into different groups according to age,family history of tumor for statistical analysis.Results Most of the respondents were unaware of genetic counseling and genetic testing.However,after a brief introduction,major of them were willing to accept genetic counseling,breast cancer risk evaluation and screening.Specifically,79.8％ of them were willing to accept genetic counseling,and 62.3％ were willing to accept genetic testing.Most of the respondents would accept inexpensive early genetic screening.For the genetic testing with higher prices,only 37.9％ of them would accept it.Supposing a positive genetic testing result,most of them were willing to perform prevention through close follow-upscreening,31.3％ of them would choose prophylactic surgery or drugs.Despite being told the confidentiality of the test results,32.9％ of them worried about the adverse effects of genetic test.Conclusions Most of the blood relatives of breast cancer patients were unaware of counseling and genetic testing,but had apparent willingness to accept them.Misunderstanding of genetic characteristics,costs and concerning about discrimination are obstacles for the respondents to accept genetic counseling,genetic testing and related screening prevention.
