Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons ( PAHs) are ubiquitous environmental pollutants, whose carcinogenicity is determinated. The mechanism of their carcinogenicity: PAHs are able to combine with aryl hydrocarbon hydrocarbon receptor ( AhR ) , resulting in some toxicity and carcinogenicity.AhR is a ligand-dependent activation transcription factor, which is activated by a large variety of ligands, regulating the expression of a series of gene involved in metabolism, and participating in important biological processes, such as singal transduction, cell proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis, and so on.Besides, it's closely related with the tumor development. Thus, it will provide a new approach for cancer prevention and treatment to study the role of PAHs and AhR in the development of tumor.

Objective: To study the effects of pharmaco-serum from rabbits administrated intragastrically with Fuzheng Jiedu decoction(FJD) on injured human bronchial epithelial(16HBE) cells exposed to nickel sulfate(NiSO4).Methods: Cultured 16HBE cells were treated with both NiSO4 and different doses of FJD pharmaco-serum in vitro. The detections of cell activities and viabilities were carried out.Meanwhile, activities of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) as well as maleic dialdehyde(MDA) contents were measured. Results: FJD pharmaco-serum could decrease mortalities and increase viabilities of 16HBE cells exposed to NiSO4.In cells co-treated with NiSO4 and FJD pharmaco-serum,the content of MDA was decreased, while GSH-Px and SOD activities were increased at the same time.High dose of FJD pharmaco-serum had the most dramatic effect. Conclusion: This study suggested that FJD could antagonize NiSO4-induced toxicity, which may be involved in its antioxidant function.

Objective To analyze factors affecting quality of life (QOL)in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB),and provide reference for improving QOL of patients. Methods The MOS 36-item short form health sur-vey (SF-36)was adopted to survey QOL of patients with CHB,Morisky medication adherence scale was used to measure patients'adherence to medication, factors affecting QOL of patients with CHB were analyzed. Results Of 357 CHB patients,271(75.91% )were married,107(29.97% )received college or above education,163(45.66% ) patients'average household monthly income were ¥ 2000-¥ 5000,138(38.66% )patients'family members were also with CHB,198 (55.46% )patients smoked,150 (42.02% )drank. The average score of CHB patients' adherence to medication was (2.15±1.29). Factors affecting QOL in patients with CHB were age, education level, duration of disease, whether or not hospitalized, whether or not drink,as well as adherence to medication. Age, drink, and duration of hepatitis B,and previous hospitalization were negative factors affecting QOL in patients with CHB,education level and adherence to medication were positive factors affecting QOL in patients with CHB. Conclusion Strengthening CHB patients'understanding on disease and improving their medication adherence can help them to improve QOL.

Basic & Clinical Medicine 2006;0(04):-
Objective To assess the renal protective effects of mycophenolate mofetil(MMF) in diabetic model rats and to explore its mechanism. Methods SD rats were divided randomly into there groups: control group, diabetic model group and diabetic group treated with MMF. In 12 weeks, blood glucose(BG), blood urea nitrogen(BUN), serum creatinine(Scr), index number of kidney hypertrophy(kidey weight to body weight, KW/BW),creatinine clearance(Ccr) and 24- hour urinary protein (24Upro) were detected. Kidney tissure were examined by microscopy. The protein exprssion of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and proliferating cell nuclear antigen(PCNA) in renal tissure were determined by immunohistochemical technique. The mRNA expression of ICAM-1 in kidney tissure were semi-quantitatively determined with reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). Results Compared with control group, BG、KW/BW、24Upro、BUN、Scr and Ccr were significantly increased in diabetic model rats(P
