Hepatocyte is the core raw materials of bioartificial liver support system, primary hepatocyte is lim-ited to application because of short survival and difficult cul-ture in vitro. Porcine hepatocyte which has been used re-cently exist the risks of endogenous retrovirus transmission. With the development of molecular biology, it has been pos-sible that hepatocyte is immortalized recently. Immortalized hepatocytes have greatly significant to drug toxicology, bio-artificial liver support system and tissue engineering of liver. Therefore, we will review the prospects for research and ap-plication of immortalized hepatocytes.

Objective Nowadays, in the field of bone tissue engineering , searching for a kind of scaffold , which is both strong enough and biocompatible , is still a hot topic .Objective of this study is to evaluate the three-dimensional nano-zirconia porous scaffold′s effect on bone marrow stromal cells early attachment and proliferation . Methods Preparing nano-zirconia porous scaffold and testing its porosity and its mechanical strength .Hemolysis experiment was taken to evaluate its biosafety .Canine bone marrow stromal cells ( BM-SCs) were extracted from an adult beagle and cultured in vitro. The third generation cells were seeded onto the scaffold and induced to os-teoblasts under condition medium .Cells early attachment on scaffold was observed by SEM .MTT and ALP tests were taken to evaluate cells proliferation and osteogenesis within two weeks . Results Nano-zirconia porous scaffold in our study presented a porous structure with a well connected inner .Its porosity and compressive strength were (92.667 ±0.324)%and 4.38 MPa, respectively.Hemolysis rate was 2.19%, which was demonstrated to be safe to human body .Canine BMSCs could colonize the surface of the materials , bridge macro-poros-ity and proliferate on the scaffold .A values taken by the method of MTT showed that cells could proliferate quickly on the scaffold after 3, 6, 9, 12 d (A values were 0.604 ±0.059, 1.215 ±0.019, 1.385 ± 0.254, and 1.506 ±0.050), comparing with that on the first day (A value was 0.261 ±0.034).Statistical difference was found (P <0.01) .The ALP level raised up significantly on day 7 and 14 ( A val-ues were 0.032 ±0.002 and 0.062 ±0.007), comparing with that on the first day (A value was 0.016 ±0.003).Statistical difference was found (P<0.01). Conclusion The three-dimensional nano-ZrO2 porous scaffold in our study presented satisfactory biocompati-bility.It could offer a microenvironment for osteoblasts growth and secreted osteogenesis marker in vitro .

Acute-on-chronic liver failure is a common form of liver failure characterized by complicated clinical manifestations and high mortality. The pathophysiology of ACLF is still unclear.More efficacious treatments are based mainly on a better understanding of the pathophysiology of ACLF.The advances in the pathophysiology of ACLF have been extremely encouraging in the last few years. In this article,we reviewed the progress of ACLF,its definition, etiology and, pathophysiology.

International Journal of Surgery 2008;35(10):681-683
Wound healing is a complicated biological process, which consists of inflammatory cells, re-pairing cells, extracellular matrix, cell factors, et al. These factors participate in the process of wound heal-ing in great harmony and coordination. The sufferers of diabetes mellitus are vulnerable to skin injury ,which often results in non-healing or healing delay, which became an urgent difficulty and warm spot unsolved in clinic. So far, especially for the last few years, great progress has been made in the mechanism of wound non-healing of Diabetes Mellitus, mainly including signal pathways, angiopoiesis, neuropeptides, advanced glycation end products, cell apoptosis and matrix metaltoproteinases.

International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2008;31(3):183-187
Cells and scaffolds are two key elements of tissue engineering, while the viabilitv of cells is mainly depended on the nature of scaffolds.A suitable scaffold should simulate the internal environment as well as possible, which is necessary for the growth of cells. The nanometer structured biomaterials have become more and more popular in the study of tissue engineering due to their ability to perfectly simulate the topography of the microenvironment. This paper summarized the advances in the application of nanometer structured materials in the in vitro cell cultures. The mechanisms of the promoting effect of nano.structured biomaterials on the cell growth and the application of nano-structured materials in liver tissue engineering are discussed.

Objective To investigate and analyze the requirement for health education during and after hospitalizadon of patients with cerebral apoplexy. Methods 150 sober patients with cerebral apoplexy from department of neurology were investigated by questionnaires and the results were analyzed. Results The education content that most patients wanted to understand during hospitalization was treatment method and limbs activity(83.6%and 82.2%);The health education style that they prefered was to communicate directly with doctors and nurses(74.0%);The education content after hospitalization that most patients required was self-nursing knowledge.clinical manifestation and first aid when relapse(90.4%,87.7%and 87.7%).The health education style that they most needed after hospitalization Was that Some reference books would he recommended to them (56.2%).The time choice for health education was consultation whenever they had problems. Conclusion Medical workers should supply selective education and instruction according to the health education requirement and style at different stages of patients with cerebral apoplexy.

AIM: To study the effects of dietary factor on liver gene expression profile in apoE~(-/-)/LDLR~(-/-)/Lepr~(db/db) mice and atherogenesis. METHODS: The gene expression profile was determined by using cDNA microarray. Total plasma TC and TG level were measured with COD-PAP and GPO-PAP methods respectively. The morphological characters of the aorta were also observed. RESULTS: Among the 4000 target genes, 78 and 114 genes were up-and down-regulated, respectively, in treble genes mutants fed with high fat high cholesterol diet compared with that of regular chow littermates, including lipid metabolism, carbohydrate, cell skeleton and immune related genes. Atherogenic diet induced severe plasma hyperlipidemia even in the early stage and also accelerated atherogenesis in the treble genes mutant mice. CONCLUSION: The data suggest that atherogenic diet aggravates abnormal plasma lipid metabolism and induces severe hyperlipidemia, and atherogenesis in the treble genes mutant mice as well.
