OBJECTIVETo explore the curative effect of surgery and selerotherapy for massive venous malformations of the tongue.
METHODSFrom January 2005 to December 2014, subtotal resection or debulking for 15 cases of massive venous malformation in the tongue was undertaken with multiple sessions of pre- and post-operative injection therapy of pingyangmycin, lauromacrogol and absolute ethanol.
RESULTSAll signs associated with the lesions including eating, sleep and speech disorders disappeared after treatment. Complete or near complete resolution was achieved in 9 cases, and a significant reduction in size in a further 6 cases after surgical excision and peri-operative sclerotherapy.
CONCLUSIONSFor massive venous malformations of the tongue, surgical excision combined with multiple sessions of sclerotherapy is a good treatment option.

Objective The studies on tissue culture and cytological observations of leaf explants of Curculigo orchioides were conducted in order to provide the basis for the rapid propagation of C. orchioides. Methods Young leaf explants of C. orchioides were cultured on MS basal media. Differences in the callus induction and plantlet regeneration rate were observed by different light treatment as well as chemical factors like different phytohormones, casein hydrolysate (CH), and activated charcoal (AC) concentrations. Paraffin method was used to cytological observation. Results For callus induction of leaf explants of C. orchioides, dark treatment gave better results compared to light treatment; among the media tested, the suitable phytohormone combinations were 2.0 mg/L 2, 4-D or 6-BA 1.5 mg/L+2, 4-D 2.5 mg/L, and 300 mg/L CH+0.2% AC was good for plantlet regeneration from leaf explants. The callus from leaf explants mainly originated from midrib. The parenchyma cells near epicuticle of midrib firstly were initiated to division. Then the parenchyma cells of vascular bundle sheath and mesophyll cells on each side of vascular bundle were also divided to form callus. The buds developed on the peripheral parts of the calli, but the roots developed in the regions deep within the calli. Conclusion Tissue culture of young leaf explants of C. orchioides can make the propagation of C. orchioides rapid.

ObjectiveTo screen out the two-component system associated with drug resistance of Mycobacterium tuberculosis by detecting the differential expression of two-component system regulator genes between multidrug resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains and drug sensitive strains. MethodsTotal RNA of MTB was extracted from cultured MTB during the logarithmic phase in the 7H9 brook medium, and then its purity was identified. Reverse transcription was further completed. The expressing levels of TCS response regulators were quantified using SYBR Green I qRT-PCR, which aimed at finding the differential expressions between multidrug resistant strains and sensitive strains. Finally, all of differentially expressed TCS were screened out under the stress of INH, SM and LFA. Results Compared with sensitive strains, multidrug resistant strains of Rv0491, Rv3133c, Rv3143 and Rv3246c were up-regulated 1. 03, 7.11,3.48and 1.37 folds, respectively (t/t' =5. 623, -4. 196, -3. 559 and -3. 016, respectively, P <0. 01 ). The expressing level of other regulators had no statistical significance between muhidrug resistant strains and drug sensitive strains. Under the antibiotic pressure, the expression of Rv1027c, Rv3246c and Rv3143 showed significant changes compared with no antibiotic group. ConclusionRv3246c and Rv3143 may be associated with MTB drug resistance and the differentially expressed genes in multi-drug resistant strains may be used as potential drug targets against drug resistant tuberculosis.

Objective To systematically evaluate the effect of routine insertion of double-J stents to prevent major urological complications(MUCs)in kidney transplant recipients. Methods Medline,Embase,Cochrane Library, and Chinese Biomedicine database were searched to locate relevant randomized controlled trials(RCT).Data extraction and assessment of methodologic quality were performed independently by two reviewers.Meta-analysis was performed by Revman 5.0 software. Results Ten RCT(including 1616 patients)were identified.By comparing the routine stent group with the no stent group, the meta-analysis showed:(1)incidence of urine leak, urinary obstruction and UTI was 4 times lower,6 times lower, increased by 52 % respectively(P<0.0001);(2)Patient and graft survival, rate of acute rejection, delayed graft function and hematuria were of no significant difference. In subgroup analysis,it was found:(1)Compared with the no stent group, the group in which stent duration was≤ 4 weeks had a lower incidence of MUCs and a higher incidence of UTI;meanwhile, the group in which stent duration was > 4 weeks had a much lower incidence of MUCs and the rate of UTI was increased without significant difference;(2)In the RCT of which urethral catheter duration was < 5 days, there were no significant differences between the two groups in MUCs and UTI.In the RCT of which urethral catheter duration was ≥5 days, the stent group had a lower incidence of MUCs and a higher incidence of UTI.Conclusion Routine stenting reduces the incidence of MUCs.Although the double-J stent increases the risk of UTI,it seems that UTI doesn't affect the outcome of transplantation. The stent duration should be within 4 weeks. For the stent recipients, the longer duration of urethral catheter, the lower incidence of MUCs,the higher incidence of UTI;thus,it is up to clinicians to decide the optimal duration of urethral catheter.Long term prescription of 480 mg cotrimoxazole once daily, from the operation day till after stent removal, effectively reduces the risk of UTI associated with stent placement.

This study was aimed to investigate the diuretic effect ofMori Cortex and to identify effective fractions inM. Cortex. Metabolic cages were used to firstly observe the diuretic effect ofM. Cortex aqueous extracts on rats. Medications were continuously given for 5 days to screen for the best dosage of diuretic effect. Picric acid assays were used to detect creatinine levels in serum and urine after 5-day medication. Then, the diuretic effect of each chemical split fraction inM. Cortex was studied in order to indentify the effective parts. The results showed that after administration ofM. Cortex aqueous extracts for 3 to 5 days, compared with the control group, there was a significant diuretic effect on rats (P<0.05 orP<0.01). And the medium-dose ofM. Cortex aqueous extracts showed the best effect (P<0.01). However,M. Cortex aqueous extracts had no significant effect on creatinine levels in serum and urine. Assays of diuretic effect of chemical split fractions ofM.Cortex indicated that compared with the control group, 30% ethanol fraction and fatty oil fraction had the best diuretic effect (P<0.01). It was concluded thatM.Cortex aqueous extracts had a significant diuretic effect. And the chemical fractions contributed mostly to this effect were mainly existed in the 30% ethanol fraction and fatty oil fraction.

BACKGROUND:Microleakage between restoration, tooth structure and bonding agent can cause the entry of bacteria and liquid in the mouth into the gap, thereby damaging the bonding interface between the restoration and tooth tissues, and leading to bond failure. Microleakage detection can directly show whether the closure of the root canal of post and core system is good or bad. The severity of microleakage directly affects the restorative effects of post and core. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of different root canal cleaning methods on the microleakage between the fiber post and root canal dentin. METHODS: Thirty fresh non-caries premolar posts with free root canalin vitro were randomly divided into five groups, and the root canal wal was respectively washed with saline, 5.25% sodium hypochlorite solution+17% ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA)+saline, 3% hydrogen peroxide solution+5.25% sodium hypochlorite+ saline, 3% hydrogen peroxide solution+2% chlorhexidine solution+saline, and 2% chlorhexidine solution+17% EDTA+saline in different groups. Super-bond C&B adhesive agent was used for bonding fiber post, and the microleakage of each sample was observed under stereomicroscope. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: The severity of microleakage in the al groups was ranged as folows: saline group > 3% hydrogen peroxide solution+5.25% sodium hypochlorite+saline group > 5.25% sodium hypochlorite solution+17% EDTA+saline and 3% hydrogen peroxide solution+2% chlorhexidine solution+saline groups > 2% chlorhexidine solution+17% EDTA+saline group.
