Journal of Medical Research 2006;0(05):-
Objective To discuss the possibility of transpedicular balloon kyphoplasty for aged osteoporotic thoracolumbar burst fractures. Methods 7 consecutive procedures were performed in 7 patients of aged osteoporotic spinal fractures. The burst fractures were confirmed by CT before the procedure.Although bony fragments were seen to protrud into the spinal canal in the cases,no patient had nerve injury preoperatively. This operation involved the percutaneous insertion of two inflatable bone tamps into a fractured vertebral body transpedicularly under fluoroscopic guidance.Inflation of the bone tamp would elevate the endplates, restoring the vertebral body height, while creating a cavity to be filled with bone cement.Preoperative and postoperative heights were measured. Results 7 patients tolerated the procedure well with immediate relief of their back pain in 24 hours. There was no leakage of cement into the epidural. The height restoration of vertebral was confirmed by x-ray after the procedure. No complications occurred. The patients were allowed to take walk after the procedure. Conclusion Transpedicular balloon kyphoplasty was a effective way to treat aged osteoporotic thoracolumbar burst fractures without obvious canal occupations and neurologic deficit, the procedure can restore height of aged osteoporotic thoracolumbar burst fractures, cement distribution and vertebral canal stenosis can be avoided.

3.Biological repair of ligaments for acromioclavicular dislocation
Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics 2001;21(2):80-83
Objective An innovation of operative procedure with biological repair of ligaments for the treatment of acromioclavicular dislocation. Methods Based on the anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics, the operation was designed for restoring the stability of a completely dislocated acromioclavicular joint. Through bone holes drilled along the direction of coracoclavicular ligament fibers, the synthetic absorbable suture was used to rebuild the coracoclavicular ligament for vertical stability of the joint, and then a double loop suture was performed to rebuild acromioclavicular ligament and the capsule for horizontal stability. This biomechanical repair was simple, rapid procedure, and of less tissue trauma. The acromioclavicular joint was steadily fixed without any metallic imbedding, nor interference with joint surface. Results With 1- 2.5 years follow up, 11 patients recovered with good healing, normal range of shoulder joint motion, and stable fixation. There was no need for secondary procedure to remove the sutures. The curative results of all patients were A degree based on the Karlsson s evaluation. There was no any complication. Conclusion The synthetic absorbable suture could be used with satisfaction for the repair of acromioclavicular dislocation. Compared with routine fixation with metallic material, the new kind of biofixation was not only effective, but also avoided the need of a second procedure for suture removal.

Journal of Xi'an Jiaotong University(Medical Sciences) 1982;0(01):-
The goats were injected with hepatitis B virus-transfer factor (HBV-TF), which was made from the immune spleen of the same spacies goats immunized with HBsAg After that, we measured the goats cellular immunity and humoral immunity by cheching up the serum anti-HBs level and lymphocyte transformation assay by ~3H-Thymidine (~3H-TdR) incorporation assay. The experiments showed that HBV-TF has the capacity of passing the specific cellular immunity from immune animals to no immune animals. The animals receiving HBV-TF showed a typical skin delay hypersensitivity to specific antigen and augument the effect of lymphocyte transformation in the presence of HBsAg. HBV-TF can also remove the inhibition of lymphocyte transformation caused by HBsAg, Both HBV-TF and N-TF can increase the number of goats blood leucocytes. However HBV-TF and N-TF have no effect on animal's humoral immunity.

Objective To investigate the effects of paeonol on renin-angiotensin system (RAS) occurred on the development of ventricular remodeling after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) in rats. Methods The left anterior descending coronary artery was ligated to establish the model of AMI in male SD rats. Six groups were set up:sham-operation group, AMI model group, captopril control group, paeonol low dose group (6 mg/kg), paeonol middle dose group (9 mg/kg) and paeonol high dose group (12 mg/kg). Rats were given treatment for 4 weeks after the AMI model was established. HE staining was used to observe changes of myocardial tissue. Real-time PCR was used to detect the mRNA levels of angiotensinogen (AGT), angiotensin Ⅱ receptor type1(AGTR1) and endothelin (ET)-1 of six groups. Western blot assay was used to detect the protein levels of peptidyl-dipeptidase A (ACE), angiotensin Ⅱ(Ang)-Ⅱand AGTR1 in six groups. Results The transcription of AGT, AGTR1, ET-1mRNA and the expressions of ACE, Ang-Ⅱ and AGTR1 protein were significantly higher in myocardial tissue of AMI rats than those of sham-operation rats (P<0.05). Compared with model group, the expressions of AGT, AGTR1, ET-1mRNA and ACE, Ang-Ⅱ, AGTR1 protein were significantly decreased in paeonol high dose group and captopril control group (P<0.05). Paeonol reduced the expressions of those mRNA and protein levels in a significant dose dependent manner. Conclusion Paeonol can slow down the deterioration of the ventricular remodeling after AMI in rats, which may be related to the inhibition of over-activation of RAS.

Objective To study the clinical and neuroimaging features of subtypes of multiple system atrophy (MSA) and their correlations. Methods One hundred and forty-three MSA cases fulfilled Gilman diagnostic criteria (1999) were recruited and their clinical subtypes and stages were classified. Using the staging methods of the pontine cross sign and putaminal slit proposed by Horimoto, 108 patients showed abnormalities in MRI and were further evaluated. The relationship between the subtypes of MSA, disease duration, and MRI abnormalities has been analyzed. Results Of 143 MSA patients, the male-to-female ratio is 1.3:1 ; 93 cases are diagnosed with MSA-C, 39 with MSA-P, and 11 with MSA-P + C; 90 cases with probable diagnosis, and 53 with possible diagnosis. Of the 76 MSA-C cases with MRI abnormalities, 36 (47%) show the pontine cross sign and 10 (13%) show the putaminal slit; of the 24 MSA-P cases with MRI abnormalities, 6 (25%) show the pontine cross sign and 6 (25%) show theputaminal slit. In addition, MSA-C cases with shorter disease duration demonstrate earlier stages of the pontine cross sign. Conclusions In this study, the number of MSA-C cases is more than MSA-P, which might be related to the ethnic background. In neuroimaging, both the pontine cross sign and the putaminal slit are the marked features of MSA. To some degree, the subtypes of MSA are related with the features of imaging, that is, MSA-C patients present the pontine cross sign more often than MSA-P, and the putaminal slit is a comparatively common feature among MSA-P cases.
