The incidence of venous thromboembolism in patients with ovarian cancer is much higher than other gynecologic cancers. Approximate 20%of ovarian cancer patients have hypercoagulable status during different phases of their disease. Ovarian cancer itself can induce hypercoagulability, but meanwhile the over activated coagulation system may promote disease progression. Coagulation system disorder is one of the most important prognostic factors in ovarian cancer. Recently, hypercoagulability becomes a hot spot in the ovarian cancer research ifeld. This article reviews the mechanism of hypercoagulability, its clinical implication and correlated treatment in ovarian cancer patients.

Objective To establish the item pool of quality of life questionnaire of Chinese medicine for postoperative patients with colorectal cancer;To conduct preliminary item screening. Methods With the guidance of Chinese culture background and TCM theory, systematic retrospective studies on medical records, interviews, TCM syndrome entries, and entries from EORTC QLQ-CR38 were used, and theoretical structure was extracted to form the primary item pool. Item selection and entry were optimized through the investigation, and the item pool was established through expert consultation. Results Item pool was composed of 70 entries, and the pre-questionnaire scale was formed. Conclusion Extraction of item pool ensures the reliability and scientificity of soft index, also has the characteristics of Chinese medicine.

ObjectiveTo investigate the feasibility and superiority of video-assisted minithoracotomy surgery (VAMT) in treatment of adolescent patients with primary spontaneous pneumothorax. MethodsThe clinical data of 103 adolescent patients with spontaneous pneumothorax were analyzed retrospectively. VAMTS was performed in 56 cases and video-assisted thoracoseopic surgery(VATS) was performed in 47 cases. complications Statistical analysis were undergoing in middle-operation, post-operation and ambi-operation in the two groups were analyzed. ResultsNo statistically significant difference were found in blood loss ,operating time,pain grade, out-of-bed activity time, antibiotics use time,chest drainage time,hospital day pulmonary infection between the two groups( all P ＞0.05 ). The cost of hospitalization was lower in VAMTS group compare to VATS group ( P ＜ 0.05). ConclusionVAMT in treatment of adolescent patients with primary spontaneous pneumothorax had the advantage of simple performance, reliable effectiveness, practical,lower cost of hospitalization fee.

Objective To investigate the different expression pattern of Src-homology2 domain phosphatase (SHP)-1 and SHP-2 in human papiilomavirus (HPV)6/11 infected condyloma acuminatum (CA) and the significance of the difference. Methods HPV6/11 related CA cases were diagnosed by in situ hybridization. The expression and distribution of SHP-1 and SHP-2 were examined by SP immunohistochemistry technique in skin samples from 40 HPV 6/11 positive CA cases and 20 healthy control (foreskins). Results The positive rates of SHP-1 and SHP-2 were 80% and 85% respectively in CA, which were significantly higher than those in healthy control cases (only 35% and 30%, respectively, X2=11.87,P<0.01; X2 =18. 15,P<0. 01) . The SHP-1 and/or SHP-2 positive cells in CA skin lesions were mainly distributed in prickle layer, showing as brown yellow, with the positive staining located in cytoplasm. Contrastively, the SHP-1 and/or SHP-2 positive cells in healthy controls were rare and mainly distributed in basal layer, showing as pale yellow with the positive staining located in cytoplasm. There was no significant correlation between the expression of SHP-1 and SHP-2 in CA( rs = 1.0, P>0.05 ). Conclusion The expressions of SHP-1 and SHP-2 increase in HPV6/11 positive CA, which suggest that with the infection of HPV6/11, SHP-1 and SHP-2 may play a regulatory role in the proliferation of keratinocytes.

To investigate the clinical efficacy of distally based myocutaneous flap pedicled with nutrient vessel of cutaneous nerve of leg for the treatment of traumatic chronic osteomyelitis of lower leg. A total of 25 patients with traumatic chronic osteomyelitis of lower legs were from Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery, Beijing Jishuitan Hospital from January 2002 to June 2008. All the patients were treated with distally based myocutaneous flap pedicled with nutrient vessel of cutaneous nerve of leg after thoroughly debridement. Among them, 6 patients were treated with myocutaneous flap with nutrient vessel of saphenous nerve, and 19 patients were treated with myocutaneous flap with nutrient vessel of sural nerve. The sizes of the flaps were 5 cm×3 cm-18 cm× 12 cm, with attached muscles were 3 cm×3 cm-8 cm×5 cm. The lengths of the pedicles were 5-12 cm. All transplanted myocutaneous flaps survived well. A 6-24 months follow-up of all patients was obtained. The shape and texture of the myocutaneous flaps were good. And there was no recurrence of osteomyelitis. Results suggested that the distally based myocutaneous flap pedicled with nutrient vessel of cutaneous nerve of leg had reliable blood supply and satisfied efficacy, which was a good method for repairing traumatic chronic osteomyelitis of lower leg.

AIM: To determine the content of emodin and physcion in rat plasma by nonaqueous RP-HPLC. METHODS: After hydrolysis and extraction, the content of emodin in the plasma was determined by nonaqueous RP-HPLC. The separation was performed on Kromasil C 18 column (250 mm?4.6 mm, 5.0 ?m) with the mobile phase comprised of methanol-acetic acid (99.9∶0.1). The flow rate was 1.0 mL?min -1 and the detection wavelength was at 254 nm. RESULTS: The linear ranges for emodin and physcion were in the range of 0.0425-2.8 ?g?mL -1 and 0.0491-3.14 ?g?mL -1 , respectively. The average recoveries of emodin and physcion were 95.7%-100.1% and 96.2%-99.8%, with corresponding RSD of 1.3% and 1.6% respectively. CONCLUSION: This method is simple, rapid, accurate and reproducible with RP-HPLC to detect rhein in plasma.

AIM:To investigate the effect of resveratrol on the apoptosis of endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) induced by tert-butyl hydroperoxide (tBHP) and the underlying mechanisms.METHODS:Total mononuclear cells were isolated from peripheral blood by density gradient centrifugation, and the cells were cultured on fibronectin-coated culture dishes.After 4 d of culture, attached cells were divided into control group, tBHP group, and resveratrol plus tBHP group (pretreated with resveratrol for 24 h and then cultured with 100 μmol/L tBHP for 6 h).The proliferation and migration abilities of the EPC were assessed by MTT assay, BrdU incorporation assay and modified Boyden chamber assay.The proportion of apoptotic EPC was determined by flow cytometry after staining with fluorescein isothiocyanate-conjugated Annexin V and propodium iodide.The level of reactive oxygen species (ROS) was determined by H2DCF-DA method.Caspase-3 activity was assay using a caspase-3 colorimetric assay kit.The protein levels of cleaved caspase-3, Bcl-2 and Bax were determined by Western blot.RESULTS:Resveratrol decreased EPC apoptosis induced by tBHP in a dose-dependent manner.Moreover, resveratrol increased the proliferation and migration abilities of the EPC.Resveratrol decreased intracellular ROS level, caspase-3 activity and the protein level of cleaved caspase-3.Resveratrol also decreased protein expression of Bax and increased protein expression of Bcl-2.CONCLUSION:Resveratrol attenuates EPC apoptosis induced by oxidative stress, and its mechanisms may be related to protecting the mitochondrial function.

This report overviewed the national endemic status of schistosomiasis in China in 2008. During the whole year of 2008, a total of 412 927 cases of schistosomiasis were estimated and 57 acute cases were reported, among which one acute case infected with Schistosoma mansoni was imported from overseas. The reduction rates of total cases and acute cases were 19.97% and 32.53% when comparing to those in 2007, respectively. A total of 21 222 advanced cases were treated in 2008 with an increase rate of 15.04% comparing with that in 2007. About 372 263. 11 hm~2 of areas infested with Oncomelania snails were found in 2008, and about 1 197. 89 hm~2 newly detected areas were found in non-infested areas with Oncomelania snails, in historical records. There were 1 468 669 head of the cattle with its infection rate of 1.34% in schistosomiasis transmission regions, with reduction rates of 1. 86% and 36.79% , respectively, comparing to those in 2007. However, cattle were still remaining as the main infectious source for the transmission of schistosomiasis. Six provinces including Jiangsu, Anhui, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, and Yunnan reached the national criteria of infection control. Sichuan Province reached the national criteria of transmission control. The country achieved the mid-term goal of schistosomiasis control written in the document ofOutline of mid- and long-term national programme on control and prevention of schistosomiasis (2004 -2015).

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of prucalopride two mg once daily in the treatment of chronic constipation (CC) in China.Methods In this multicentre,randomised,placebo controlled,parallel-group,phase Ⅲ study,patients with CC received either two mg prucalopride or placebo,once daily,for 12 weeks.The primary efficacy endpoint was the proportion of patients reaching an average of three or more spontaneous complete bowel movements (SCBM) per week during the 12 week treatment.The key secondary efficacy endpoint was the percentage of patients reaching three or more SCBM/week during the first four weeks of treatment.Other efficacy assessments included the average number of SCBM/week; the median time to onset of first SCBM after intake of the first dose of trial medication and the average number of bisacodyl tablets or enemas used per week.Furthermore,the symptoms of constipation were assessed by patient assessment of constipation symptom (PAC-SYM) questionnaire.The quality of life was evaluated by patient assessment of constipation-quality of life (PAC-QOL) questionnaire.Safety assessments included adverse events,laboratory values and cardiovascular events.Results Four hundred and forty-six patients from China were screened,313 were treated and 295 completed 12-week study treatment.Averaged over 12 weeks,significantly higher proportion of patients on prucalopride two mg (39.4％,P＜0.01) had three or more SCBM/week compared with placebo (12.7％,x2 =29.50,P＜0.01).Over four weeks,significantly higher proportion of responders was also found in patients on prucalopride (40.0 ％vs 13.3 ％,x2 =28.58,P＜0.01).Prucalopride also significantly improved associated symptoms and quality of life (QOL).The most frequent treatment emergent adverse events were diarrhoea,nausea,abdominal pain,and headache,which were mild to moderate and transient,spontaneously resolved in a few days.Conclusion Prucalopride two mg once daily significantly improved bowel function,associated symptoms and satisfaction in CC over a 12-week treatment period,and was safe and well tolerated in Chinese patients.

Objective To analyze and explore the clinical features,pathological characters,treatment and prognosis of rectum carcinoid.Methods From January 1997 to January 2010,69 pathologically diagnosed rectum carcinoid cases were collected from Union Hospital of Tongji Medical College,Huazhong University of Science and Technology and other 7 hospitals.The clinical features,pathological characters,treatment and prognosis were analyzed. Results Of 69 rectum carconid cases,there were 36 males and 33 females.The average age was (49.3±12.9) years.The common symptom were hemotochezia,abdominal pain,constipation,diarrhoea and abdominal distension.There were 55 cases with lesions from the anus less than 8 cm and in other patients,lesions from the anus were all more than 8 cm.66 cases were typical carcinoid,3 cases were atypical carcinoid.40 cases underwent the immunohistochemical staining.The common markers for immunohistochemical staining were Syn,CgA and NSE,the positive percentage were 90％ (36/40),75％ (30/40) and 82.5％(33/40) respectively.A total of 24 patients received endoscopic therapy,44 patients had surgery,1 patient who refused surgery received only life support and symptomatic treatment.Conclusion No specific clinical symptoms of rectum carcinoid,and most were typical carcinoid.Lesions confined to mucosa and submucosa could be considered the endoscopic therapy.
