Objective To observe the characteristics of electro-neurophysiology in diabetic patients with early peripheral neuropathy. Method The nerve conduction velocity ( NCV ) and quantitative sensory test (QST) were examined in 175 diabetic patients without clinical peripheral neuropathy and in 50 normal subjects, and their results were compared. Results In 175 diabetic patients, the abnormal ratio of NCV was 7% (13/175).While using QST,the abnormal ratio was 45% (79/175). There was significant difference between two methods (P< 0.01). Compared diabetic patients with normal subjects, there was no significant difference between motor conduction velocity and sensory conduction velocity (P > 0.05 ).While using QST, the threshold values of cold sensation, warm sensation, and thermalgesia showed significant difference between diabetic patients and normal subjects (P< 0.01). Conclusion QST is more sensitive than NCV in diagnosing diabetic peripheral neuropathy, which suggests that small nerve fibers are more likely to be damaged than large fibers in early stage.

Objective:
To investigate the association between lifestyle risk factors and comorbidity of chronic diseases among male elderly populations in Oroqen Autonomous Banner, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, so as to provide insights into improvements of lifestyles and prevention of comorbidity of chronic diseases among male elderly populations.
Methods:
Male residents at ages of 65 years and older that participated in community healthy examinations were sampled from 16 villages (communities) in Oroqen Autonomous Banner using a multi-stage cluster random sampling method from July to December, 2020. Participants' demographic data, lifestyle risk factors and disease history were collected using questionnaire surveys, and healthy examinations data were collected through the grassroots healthcare service information system for community health service centers, including waist circumference, blood pressure, fasting blood glucose and blood lipid. The correlation between lifestyle risk factors and comorbidity of chronic diseases were examined among males at ages of 65 years and older using a multivariable ordered logistic regression model.
Results:
Totally 761 male elderly populations were included, with a mean age of (73.61±6.74) years. There were 216 participants with central obesity (28.38%), 179 with smoking (23.52%), 194 with alcohol consumption (25.49%), 412 with a low frequency of physical activities (54.14%), 347 with one type of lifestyle risk factor (45.60%) and 268 with two and more types of lifestyle risk factors (35.22%), 404 with hypertension, 170 with diabetes and 321 with dyslipidemia. There were 347 participants with one type of chronic disease (45.60%), 199 with two types of chronic diseases (26.15%) and 50 with three types of chronic diseases (6.57%), and the prevalence of comorbidity of chronic diseases was 32.72% among the participants. Multivariable ordered logistic regression analysis showed an increased risk of developing comorbidity of chronic diseases among participants with central obesity (OR=2.442, 95%CI: 1.804-3.307), and a reduced risk of comorbidity of chronic diseases among participants with less than two types of lifestyle risk factors (one type, OR=0.607, 95%CI: 0.451-0.820; none, OR=0.675, 95%CI: 0.460-0.990).
Conclusions
Central obesity and number of lifestyle risk factors are factors affecting comorbidity of chronic diseases among the male elderly populations at ages of 65 years and older in Oroqen Autonomous Banner.

Objective To investigate the effect of Tangshan earthquake stress on the executive and memory func?tion in adults. Methods The objects were recruited from Tangshan Kailuan Mining Group. The exposed group included 251 subjects whose mothers exposed to the Tangshan earthquake during pregnancy in 1976. The control group included 341 subjects whose mothers was pregnant the year after the Tangshan earthquake. According to mother's pregnancy time relative to the earthquake exposed group was divided into 3 subgroups:the late pregnancy of earthquake exposed group, the second trimester of earthquake exposed group and the early pregnancy of earthquake exposed group. Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST) was used to evaluate executive function, Brief Visuospatial Memory Test-Revised (BVMT-R) was used to evaluate memory function. Results The index of WCST were not different between two groups (P>0.05). Com?pared with control group, BVMT-R total scores were lower in earthquake exposed group [(25.54 ± 7.45) vs. (27.28 ± 7.10), P<0.01]. In the earthquake exposed group, pregnancy and sex had interaction effect on the nonpreservative errors (nRpe) of WCST (P<0.05). In the late pregnancy earthquake exposed group, male had higher nRpe than female (P<0.01). Preg?nancy time had main effect on offsprings' BVMT-R scores (P<0.05). The BVMT-R total scores were lower in late trimes?ter pregnancy and in second trimester pregnancy than in the early pregnancy (P<0.05). Conclusion The Tangshan earth?quake has potential effect on the memory function of the offsprings. The second trimester (4-to 6-month) and the third trimester (7-to 9-month) may be the sensitive pregnancy window of the stress during the pregnancy. The male offspring from late pregnancy of exposed earthquake have poorer executive function than female.

Objective To investigate the infection of Mycoplasma in female urogenital system and the evolution of drug resistance. Methods Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU) and Mycoplasma hominis (MH) infections were examined by pathogen culture and fluorescence quantitative PCR in urogenital samples from 530 female patients in 2007, and drug sensitivity tests were performed in vitro. The results were compared with those in 2000. Results In 2000, there were 99 patients with Mycoplasma infections, in which 65 were of UU infections, 15 were of MH infections and 19 were of UU + MH infections. In 2007, there were 344 patients with Mycoplasma infections, in which 236 were of UU infections, 47 were of MH infections and 61 were of UU + MH infections. Patients aged 21~30 had the highest Mycoplasma infection rates both in 2000 (46.2%) and 2007 ( 50.5% ) ; while Mycoplasma infection rate in patients aged under 20 rose from 5.1% in 2000 to 12.8% in 2007 (χ2 = 4.682, P < 0.05). Both in 2000 and 2007, pathogens presented the highest drug resistance rates to tetracycline (TET) and erythromycin ( ERY ) which were all bore 80%. Compared with 2000, drug resistance rates to levofloxacin (LEV), azitromvcin (AZI) and ofloxacin (OFL) rose in 2007, and the differences were of statistical significance (P <0.05), while drug resistance rates to dmoxycycline (DOX), minocyclin (MIN) and josamycin (JOS) were still in the low level. Conclusions UU is the primary pathogen of infection in female urogenital system, and there is a tendency of Mycoplasma infection in younger age women. DOX, MIN and JOS can be the preferred medicines for Mycoplasma infections.

Objective:To evaluate the safety and feasibility of endovascular recanalization for non-acute internal carotid artery occlusion (NA-ICAO), and to propose a new angiographic classification. Methods:From April 2015 to October 2019, 95 consecutive patients with symptomatic NA-ICAO who received endovascular recanalization were retrospectively analyzed in Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University. All the patients were divided into four groups according to DSA: type Ⅰ, petrous segments were distally reconstituted by collateral vessels; type Ⅱ, cavernous segments were distally reconstituted by collateral vessels; type Ⅲ, ophthalmic segments were distally reconstituted by collateral vessels; type Ⅳ, communicating segments were distally reconstituted by collateral vessels. Study data including clinical characteristics, surgical details, lesion classification, recanalization rate and perioperative complications. For the counting data, the χ 2 test was used to compare between groups. For the quantitative data, the ANOVA was used for the normal distribution data, otherwise the Kruskal-Wallis H test was used. The primary safety outcome was any stroke or death within 30 days. Results:Among the 95 patients, 67 (70.53%) had successful recanalization. The recanalization rates of type Ⅰ-Ⅳ were 92.31% (36/39), 81.82% (18/22), 47.83% (11/23) and 18.18% (2/11) respectively (χ2=29.557, P<0.001). And the complication rates of the four types were 5.13% (2/39), 13.64% (3/22), 21.74% (5/23) and 9.10% (1/11) respectively. The incidence of perioperative ischemic stroke was 2.11% (2/95). No other serious stroke and death occurred. Conclusions:Endovascular recanalization may be feasible and safe for carefully selected patients with NA-ICAO and therefore represents an alternative treatment. The patients with type Ⅰ and Ⅱ lesions had higher recanalization rates, while the patients with type Ⅳ lesions had significantly lower recalculation rate. The new angiographic classification is conducive to the selection of suitable patients and difficulty in grading.

BACKGROUND:The specific mechanism of Gushukang,as a Chinese traditional patent medicine for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis of kidney deficiency and blood stasis, needs further studies. OBJECTIVE:To investigate the effect of Gushukang on serum sex hormones, bone microstructure and estrogen receptor in postmenopausal osteoporosis. METHODS:Firstly, network pharmacological analysis was performed. The active ingredients and action targets of Gushukang and the targets of postmenopausal osteoporosis were obtained respectively.Cytoscape was used to construct the active ingredient-target network.STRING database and Cytoscape were used for protein-protein interaction analysis and screening of core targets.DAVID database was used for Gene Ontology(GO)and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes(KEGG)enrichment analyses of intersection targets. Then the ovariectomized Sprague-Dawley rats were used in the animal experiment.Gushukang was administered by gavage for 3 months. The serum estrogen level was detected by ELISA,the bone microstructure was detected by microCT,and the protein expression of estrogen receptor α and estrogen receptor β in bone tiusse was detected by western blot. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:The network pharmacological research results identified 132 active ingredients and 150 targets of Gushukang and 1155 targets of postmenopausal osteoporosis. After intersections with 1155 postmenopausal osteoporosis targets,87 targets of active ingredients of Gushukang against postmenopausal osteoporosis were obtained.By constructing the active ingredient-target network,it was found that the active ingredients at the core were quercetin, kaempferol, luteolin, naringin and isorhamnetin, and the targets at the core were NCOA2,ESR2,AR,F2,ESR1 and PTGS1.The final targets obtained after the protein-protein interaction analysis and screening included MAPK8,ESR1,JUN,R3C1,RELA and FOS,of which ESR1 was the common core target obtained from the two analyses.KEGG enrichment analysis showed estrogen, tumor necrosis factor, apoptosis and other signaling pathways. Therefore, animal experiments focused on the effect of Gushukang on different subtypes of estrogen receptors in the estrogen signaling pathway. The results showed that in the Gushukang group, bone microstructure was significantly improved, serum estrogen level had no significant change, but the protein expression of estrogen receptor α and β in bone tissue was significantly increased. All the findings indicate that the mechanism of Gushukang in the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis may be related to its hormone-like effect and the enhancement of estrogen receptor expression.

Advances in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treatment have been contingent on innovations in neuroimaging. Neuroimaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis and prognosis of ischemic stroke and large vessel occlusion, enabling triage decisions in the emergent care of the stroke patient. Current imaging protocols for acute stroke are dependent on the available resources and clinicians’ preferences and experiences. In addition, differential application of neuroimaging in medical decision-making, and the rapidly growing evidence to support varying paradigms have outpaced guideline-based recommendations for selecting patients to receive intravenous or endovascular treatment. In this review, we aimed to discuss the various imaging modalities and approaches used in the diagnosis and treatment of AIS.
