1.The level of advanced oxidation protein products in serum is associated with dialysate glucose exposure dose in patients undergoing non-diabetic maintenance peritoneal dialysis

Objective To investigate the association between the level of advanced oxidation protein products (AOPP) in serum and the dialysate glucose exposure dose in patients undergoing non-diabetic maintenance peritoneal dialysis (PD). Methods In this cross-sectional study, the levels of serum AOPP were measured in 192 non-diabetic PD patients. Based on the exposure dose of dialysate glucose , PD patients were assigned into the high-dose exposure and low-dose exposure groups. Serum C-reactive protein levels were also measured and the rates of cardio-vascular disease (CVD) were recorded in both groups. Results The levels of serum AOPP were higher in the high-dose exposure group, as compared with the low-dose exposure group [(78.7 ± 15.6) mmol/L vs. (71.7 ± 14.8) mmol/L, P = 0.003]. The serum C-reactive protein levels [4.6 (3.0-11.4) mg/L vs. 3.0 (2.2-5.3) mg/L, P < 0.001] and the rates of CVD (53.6% vs. 35.8%, P = 0.014) were also higher in the high-dose exposure group. After multivariate adjustment ,the level of serum AOPP was independently associated with dialysate glucose exposure dose (β = 0.157, P = 0.031) and duration of PD (β = 0.164, P =0.043). Conclusion The serum AOPP levels are associated with the dialysate glucose exposure doses in non-diabetic PD patients. Minimizing the glucose load might reduce the risk of developing CVD.
2.The feasibility of building the oblique lumbar interbody fusion corridor: A CT image study

Objective To determine the radiographic feasibility of oblique lumbar interbody fusion (OLIF) corridor to treat lumbar disease at each lumbar disc level,including the corridor's numerical value and the influence of diaphragmatic crura and aorta abdominalis.Methods A retrospective CT study was conducted on 110 patients (including 69 males and 41 females,average age 47.95 years,range 16-83 years) that continuously collected and analyzed in the PACS system.The oblique corridor was defined as the area between the left lateral border of the aorta abdominalis(or iliac artery) and the right lateral border of the left psoas.The distances and angles of L1-2,L2-3,L3-4 and L4-5 levels were measured.Whether the change of diaphragmatic crura and aorta abdominalis affected the building of the corridor was also observed.Results The mean distances of oblique corridor to the levels of L1-L5 discs were:L1-2 15.90 mm,L2-3 14.82 mm,L3-4 17.57 mm,L4-5 11.16 mm.At the levels of L1-2 and L3-4,all of the images could build the corridor.But there were only 97.27% images allowing operation at both L2-3 and L4-5,and the other 3 cases couldn't build the corridor since the aorta abdominalis was very close to psoas,and the distance was almost 0 mm.The max mean distance was 36.79 mm at L3-4 level.The mean angles were:L1-2 36.98°;L2-3 37.76°;L3-4 40.96°;L4-5 37.85°.The significant difference was at L3-4,ranged from 13.09 to 61.93°.The level of the aortic bifurcation was from the lower third of the L3 vertebral body to the middle third of the L5 vertebral body.The levels of left diaphragmatic crura's ending point in the lumbar was divided into four groups:1) Group L1 vertebral body level:the level at L1 vertebral body and above,5 cases (4.55%);Group L1-2 disc to L2 vertebral body level:at L1-2 disc and L2 vertebral body,67 cases (60.91%);Group L2-3 disc to L3 vertebral body level:at L2-3 disc and L3 vertebral body,36 cases (32.72%);Group L3-4 disc to L4 vertebral body level:at L3-4 disc and L4 vertebral body,2 case (1.81%).Conclusion The OLIF corridor can be built successfully at L1-2 and L3-4.However,it may be difficult at L2-3 and L4-5 for some patients due to the aorta abdominalis which is too close to psoas.The angles of L1-L5 levels were similar.While the left diaphragmatic crura was mainly impact the corridor insertion at L1-2 and L2-3.And the level of the aortic bifurcation was mainly located at the upper endplate of L4 to the L4-5 disc (87%).
3.Application of high volume continuous blood purification in the treatment of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome

Objective To compare the effect of high volume continuous blood purification (CBP) with routine CBP on multiple organ dysfunction syndrome(MODS).Methods 38 patients with MODS were randomly divided into high volume CBP group( treatment group,18 cases) and routine CBP group (control group,20 cases).And they were respectively detected on mean arterial pressure(MAP),dosage of Dopamine,PaO2/FiO2,APACHE [ score,lactic acid,length of stay and mortality in ICU post-treatment 24h and 48h.Results Compared with control group,MAP and PaO2/FiO2 on treatment group were more higher( P < 0.05 ),while dosage of Dopamine,APACHE Ⅱ score,lactic acid were significantly shorter than these of treatment group( P < 0.05 ),and length of stay and mortality in ICU were significantly lower than those of treatmen group [ ( 8.54 ± 4.15 ) d vs ( 11.82 ± 5.76) d,P < 0.05:22.2% vs 35.0%,P <0.05 ].Conclusion High volume CBP could reduce the mortality in ICU compared with control group routine CBP.
4.Biological safety evaluation of Carbon-Carbon composites

Objective Due to the superior performance,Carbon-Carbon composites,although still at their early stage of development,have gained more and more attention and showed great application potential.Methods According to the National Standard,the biological safety evaluation of carbon-carbon composites were done in the following aspects:cytotoxicity test,acute systemic toxicity test,haemolysis test,pyrogen test,intramuscular implantation test.Results test results showed the biological safety evaluation of carbon-carbon composites well meet the requirement of the national standard with fine biological compatibility.Conclusion The experiment results demonstrate that carbon-carbon composites can be put in clinical application

Objective To evaluate the role of different nicotinic acetylcholine receptor ( nAChR) subtypes in skeletal muscles in sepsis-related nerve-muscle dysfunction in septic rats by neuroelectrophysiol-ogy. Methods SPF adult male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 200-220 g, aged 2-3 months, were stud-ied. Sepsis was induced by cecal ligation and puncture in chloral hydrate-anesthetized rats. Twelve portions of sciatic nerve-tibialis anterior muscles taken at day 3 after successful establishment of the sepsis modelserved as group S. Another 12 portions of sciatic nerve-tibialis anterior muscles of normal rats served as group C. The endplate potential ( EPP ) was monitored by intracellular microelectrode recording. Six por-tions of nerve-muscle samples were incubated with the adult nAChR (ε-nAChR ) specific antagonist wa-glerin-1 at a concentration of 1 μmol∕L, the fetal nAChR (γ-nAChR) specific antagonist αA-OIVA at a concentration of 250 nmol∕L and neuronal nAChR (α7-nAChR) antagonist methyllycaconitine ( MLA) at a final concentration of 6 nmol∕L. The amplitude of EPP was recorded at 15 min of incubation, and the differ-ence in the amplitude of EPP (ΔEPP) and changing rate of EPP (ΔEPP%) were calculated. Another 6 portions of samples were incubated for 15 min with the Kreb mixture of waglerin-1 and 250 nmol∕LαA-OIVA at a final concentration of 1 μmol∕L, the Kreb mixture of waglerin-1 and 6 nmol∕L MLA at a final concen-tration of 1 μmol∕L, and the Kreb mixture of αA-OIVA and 6 nmol∕L MLA at a final concentration of 250 nmol∕L, and then the amplitude of EPP was recorded. Washout was performed with antagonist free Kreb so-lution for 15 min between treatments with different blockers. Results Compared with group C, ΔEPP andΔEPP% were significantly decreased after antagonizing ε-nAChR, ΔEPP% was decreased after antagoni-zing γ-nAChR, ΔEPP and ΔEPP% were increased after antagonizing α7-nAChR, the amplitude of EPP was increased after antagonizingε-nAChR+γ-nAChR andε-nAChR+α7-nAChR, and the amplitude of EPP was decreased after antagonizing γ-nAChR+α7-nAChR (P<0. 05). ΔEPP and ΔEPP% were significantly higher after antagonizing α7-nAChR than after antagonizingγ-nAChR in group S ( P<0. 05) . The EPP was significantly lower after antagonizingε-nAChR+α7-nAChR than after antagonizingε-nAChR+γ-nAChR ( P<0. 05) . Conclusion Weakened function of ε-nAChR and enhanced function of α7-nAChR in the mem-brane of the end-plate in skeletal muscle are the main reasons for sepsis-related nerve-muscle dysfunction in septic rats, and the role is comparable between them.
6. Application and funding status of otorhinolaryngology head and neck surgery research projects funded by National Natural Science Foundation of China from 2009 to 2019

Objective:
Based on the application and funding of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery (H13) funded by the Nature Science Foundation of China (NSFC), we analyzed the basic research status of the field of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and provided the references for developing the discipline development plan, optimizing the discipline strategic layout and promoting the discipline progress.
Method:
The data of both applied and funded grants of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in NSFC from 2009 to 2019 were collected for further analysis.
Results:
From 2009 to 2019, H13 received 5 103 applications, accounting for 1.00% of the total number of applications in the department of health science, and 922 applications were funded (mainly from the General Projects and the Youth Science Fund Projects), with a funding rate of 18.07% and a funding amount of 445.509 million yuan, accounting for 1.02% of the total funding amount of the department of health science. Among the seven sub-categories of H13, H1304 (Hearing abnormal and balance disorders) received 1 845 applications, and 352 were funded. H1301 (Disease of smell, nose and anterior skull base) received 1 217 applications, and 248 were founded, H1303 (Ear and lateral skull base disease) and H1305 (Otorhinolaryngology and developmental related diseases) received 498 and 488 applications,and 83 and 112 were founded respectively. The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars received 33 applications, and 5 were founded, with a funding rate of 15.15%. Clinicians accounted for 81% of the General Projects principals, and researchers and technicians accounted for 19%. Clinicians accounted for 72% of the Youth Science Fund Projects principals, and researchers and technicians accounted for 24%.
Conclusion
The basic research of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery in China has some shortcomings, such as small volume, uneven development of various disciplines, less leading academic leaders, less training of young leading talents, less major projects, more clinicians instead of researchers engaged in the basic scientific research.
7.Disease burden of colorectal cancer in Jinchang cohort.

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the disease burden of colorectal cancer in Jinchang cohort, and provide evidence for preventing colorectal cancer and reducing the disease burden of colorectal cancer in the cohort.
METHODSThe colorectal cancer mortality data from 2001 to 2013 and the medical records of colorectal cancer patients from 2001 to 2010 were collected for this retrospective cohort study. The colorectal cancer disease burden was described by using mortality rate, standardized mortality rate, medical expenditure, potential years of life lost (PYLL), average potential years of life lost (APYLL), working potential years of life lost (WPYLL), and average working potential years of life lost (AWPYLL). The development trend in disease burden of colorectal cancer was analyzed by using Spearman correlation and the average growth rate.
RESULTSThe crude mortality rate of colorectal cancer from 2001 to 2013 was 9.53/100,000 with the average annual growth rate of 12.89%. The PYLL, APYLL, WPYLL and AWPYLL of colorectal cancer were 485.00 person-years, 9.15 years, 253.00 person-years, and 4.77 years, respectively. The direct medical expenditure due to colorectal cancer was 7064.38 Yuan per case and 408.43 Yuan per day. There was no increasing trend in the direct medical expenditure due to colorectal cancer.
CONCLUSIONColorectal cancer mortolity rate was on the rise and it caused heavy disease burden in Jinchang cohort.
