OBJECTIVETo investigate the application of combining mastopexy and triple-plane breast augmentation in correction of breast ptosis and atrophy.
METHODSPeri-areolar incision was performed to finish the fascia and dermal suspension to correct the breast ptosis. The implant was inserted under the pectoralis major muscle through lateral lower border of the gland and a "X" shape full thickness incision was made on the pectoralis major muscle according to the new position of nipple-areolar complex.
RESULTS14 patients received combined mastopexy and triple-plane breast augmentation to correct breast atrophy and mastopexy simultaneously. All the patients were regularly followed for 6-12 months. No patients suffered severe complication and the results were satisfied.
CONCLUSIONS"Triple-plane" breast augmentation could be safely performed with peri-areolar mastopexy with minor injury. The technique could help to ensure the balance between the gland, nipple-areolar complex and the implant.

Objective To study the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) by using MRI and the acute physiology and chronic healthy evaluation Ⅲ (APACHE Ⅲ ) score, and the correlation between corresponding MRI findings and APACHE Ⅲ scores. Methods One hundred patients with AP undergoing abdominal MRI were recruited in the study. The MRI features of acute pancreatitis were recorded. The severity of AP on MRI was graded by MR severity index (MRSI) as mild (0 to 2 points),moderate ( 3 to 6 points) and severe (7 to 10 points).APACHE Ⅲ score was denoted for AP was as mild ( <35 points)and severe ( ≥ 35 points). The local and systematic complications, mortality, need to intense care unit (ICU),and hospitalization time were recorded and compared with MRSI and APACHE Ⅲ score.Nonparametric Spearman correlation was calculated for testing the correlation between the MRSI,the APACHE Ⅲ and hospitalization time. The correlation of clinical results with MRSI and APACHE Ⅲ was calculated by x2 test. Results In the 100 patients with AP,there were respectively 80 and 20 patients with edematous and necrotic pancreatitis on MRI.According to MRSI,34,59 and 7 patients had mild, moderate, and severe acute pancreatitis, respectively. The APACHE Ⅲ score was (24.9 ± 12.2) points.Seventy-seven patients had less than 35 points and 23 patients had more than 35 point of APACHE Ⅲ score. There were significant differences in the local complication, systematic complication, need to ICU among the three groups in MRSI score, respectively( x2 =9.161,19.118,54.767;P < 0.01 ).There was difference in the systematic complication between mild and severe AP in APACHE Ⅲ score(x2 =13.120,P =0.000),but there were no differences (x2 =0.245,x2 =2.568;P > 0.05) in the local complication, need to ICU between mild and severe AP in APACHE Ⅲ score. There was weak correlation ( r =0.235,P =0.019 )between MRSI score and hospitalization time, and no difference (r =0.168,0.105; P > 0.05)between APACHE Ⅲ and MRSI,APACHE Ⅲ and hospitalization time, respectively. Conclusions Both MRSI and APACHE Ⅲ score may predict systematic complications. However,MRSI is superior to APACHE Ⅲ in predicting the local complications, need to ICU,and hospitalization time in patients with acute pancreatitis.

Objective To explore the abilities and personal qualities that medical undergraduates need for their future clinical work, and develop their competency model. Methods The self-made ques-tionnaire survey on medical undergraduates' competencies was conducted among the 1326 medical under-graduates in a medical university by using the cluster sampling method, and the 1099 effective question-naires were collected with effective rates of 82.88%. The exploratory factor analysis was used to analyze the internal structure of competency item and to build the competency model. The rating method was used to calculate the weight of each competency item. Results The overall Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the competency questionnaire was 0.965, and the coefficient of each dimension was above 0.832. The KMO statistic value was 0.970, and the probability associated with Bartlett test statistic was P=0.000, showing that the questionnaire has high reliability and validity. The competency model of medical undergraduates covers six aspects, namely, craftsmanship, personal qualities, professional learning, interpersonal communication, psychological adaptation and the pursuit of excellence, which contain 49 factors. The cumulative variance contribution rate was 54.729%. The weights of these six aspects in the model were 0.204 4, 0.202 1, 0.175 3, 0.158 8, 0.137 6 and 0.121 8 respectively. Conclusion The competency model of undergraduate medi-cal students has a certain scientific and practical value, which can provide new evaluation methods and ideas for medical education objectives, quality assurance, teaching evaluation, medical personnel selection and training.

Background Previous experimental and clinical studies have proved that elevated serum uric acid increased risk for developing hypertension.Whereas, there are a paucity of information on the relationship between serum uric acid and prehypertension. Objective The purpose of this research is to evaluate the association between the serum uric acid and prehypertension.Method A cohort of seven thousand eight hundred thirty-nine subjects without hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases were recruited from a cross sectional study in urban and rural place in 9 provinces during 2005-2006.Based on serum uric acid(324 ?mol/L for overall population,366 ?mol/L for male,285 ?mol/L for female),people were categorized into quartiles. The odds ratio for prehypertension was calculat ed with the lowest quartile as the reference. Results The prevalence of prehypertension increased with increasing uric acid in total population(P324 ?mol/L)to lowest quartile 1(
5. Effects of tyrosine kinase inhibitor on α1B-AR-induced Ca2+ influx involved in hTrp3 protein
Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 2002;18(2):178-182
AIM: To investigate the role of Trp3 in the Ca2+ influx induced by α1B-AR in HEK293 cells and the effect of tyrosine kinase on it. METHODS: With lipofect AMINE2000 reagent, hTrp3 cDNA was transfected to HEK293 cells and α1B-HEK293 cells respectively. The expression of Trp3 was examined by Western blot. With Fura-2/AM spectrophoto- fluorometry, Ca2+ influx was determined. RESULTS: HTrp3 was expressed endogenously in HEK293 cells, and the expression increased in hTrp3-transfected-cells. Compared with untransfected cells, transfection of hTrp3 cDNA increased Ca2+ influx induced by α1B-AR (P<0.01) without any change in thapsigargin-induced Ca2+ influx (P>0.05). 5-30 μmol · L-1 genistein inhibited Ca2+ influx induced by α1B-AR in hTrp3 cDNA -transfected cells and the maximum inhibitory rate was (75.2 ± 12.6)%. CONCLUSION: Transfection of hTrp3 cDNA increased Ca2+ influx induced by α1B-AR in HEK293 cells. This process was regulated by tyrosine kinase.

Objective To study effects of cadmium on rat sperm motility evaluated with computer assisted sperm analysis. Methods Different doses of cadmium chloride (0.2,0.4,0.8mg Cd/kg BW) were administrated ip to adult male Sprague-Dawley rats. Control animals received the same volume of 0.9% NaCl solution. After 7 days, the rats were sacrificed with their testes removed. A part of one testis was used for testicular sperm head counts and daily sperm production observation. The motility of spermatozoa obtained from cauda epididymides using the “diffusion”method was measured by computer assisted sperm analysis(CASA). Results The sperm head counts and daily sperm production decreased significantly in the high dose group. The motility of spermatozoa in the middle dose group was reduced significantly. No motile sperm was found in the high dose group. The results suggest that germinal epithelium was impaired irreversibly in a short time to produce toxic effects on spermatogenesis at high cadmium doses. Conclusion Cadmium may reduce sperm motility at a dose far below the dose affecting sperm production at this time point. The motility of sperm is an early and sensitive endpoint for the assessment of cadmium toxicity on male reproduction.

Using the character of natural aggregation of CHO cells, and an ultrasonic and sedimentation column combined perfusion system to promote cells aggregation and retention into bioreactor, recombinant CHO cell strain MK3-A2 was cultured, which could secrete rhTNK-tPA, by a serum-free perfusion culture system. The culture periods in this two experiments were as long as 77 and 110 days respectively. The cells density reached 2?107 cells /ml. The average volumetric productivity of rhTNK-tPA was 89 mg/L?d, and the highest one was 216mg/L?d.The cells aggregation rate was approximately 90%, and the diameters of most of them were 285~570?m. During the perfusion culture the cells retention rate almost kept in 95% and the viability of cells was more than 85%.Thus, it means that aggregation culture with such perfusion system could be used to scale up produce biopharmaceuticals instead of microcarrier culture system.

OBJECTIVETo compare the differences in the efficacy on distant version of naked eye in the patients of juvenile myopia between rotating manipulation and lifting-thrusting manipulation of acupuncture.
METHODSOne hundred and twenty cases (240 eyes) were randomized into a rotating manipulation group and a lifting-thrusting manipulation group, 60 cases (120 eyes) in each group. Additionally, a corrective lenses group, 60 cases (120 eyes), was set up as the control. In both manipulation groups, Cuanzhu (BL 2),Yuyao (EX-HN 4), Sizhukong (TE 23), Taiyang (EX-HN 5), Fengchi (GB 20), Zusanli (ST 36), Guangming (GB 37) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6) were punctured, but stimulated with rotating manipulation and lifting-thrusting manipulation respectively three times per week, 10 times as a treatment session and totally one session was required. In the corrective lenses group, the glasses were applied at daytime. The clinical efficacy and the changes in distant vision of naked eye before and after treatment were compared among the three groups.
RESULTSThe total effective rate was 87.5% (105/120) in the rotating manipulation group, which was better than 69.2% (83/120) in the lifting-thrusting manipulation group (P < 0.05). The distant vision of naked eye was improved apparently in the rotating manipulation group and the lifting-thrusting manipulation group after treatment (both P < 0.05). But it was not improved in the corrective lenses group (P > 0.05). The distant vision of naked eye was improved more apparently after treatment in the rotating manipulation group as compared with that in the lifting-thrusting manipulation group (0.75 +/- 0.23 vs 0.68 +/- 0.24, P < 0.05). For 96 cases (192 eyes) with acupuncture treatment, in 3-month follow-up, 87.0% (167/192) of the cases maintained the stable vision as the original level and 13.0% (25/192) of them were reduced in the vision In the acupuncture groups, it was found that the improvement of distant vision of naked eye was more obvious after treatment with younger age, better basic vision and shorter duration of sickness (all P < 0.05).
CONCLUSIONAcupuncture achieves the positive and sustainable clinical effect on juvenile myopia, and the results of rotating manipulation are superior to that of lifting-thrusting manipulation. Age, basic vision and duration of sickness impact the clinical efficacy.

To observe the effects of total flavones of Metasequoia glyptostroboides Hu et Cheng (TFM) on volume-overload cardiac hypertrophy and the expression of c-Fos protein in rat. Methods Volume-overload cardiac hypertrophy of rat was induced by aortocaval shunts. The rats were given ig TFM (400, 40 and 4 mg/kg/d). c-Fos protein in the ventricles were measured by immunocytochemical study. Results TFM at the above dosage decreased heart weight and contents of RNA and protein in the myocardium, inhibited the expression of c-Fos protein in the ventricles. Conclusion TFM can prevent volume-overload cardiac hypertrophy in rats. The inhibitory effects on the expression of c-Fos protein may be its mechanism in the molecular level.
