AIM: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation for refractory glaucoma after sequential failed trabeculectomy.
METHODS: Thirty - six patients (36 eyes) with prior failed sequential trabeculectomy who underwent Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation were included. The intraocular pressure ( IOP), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and complications were ovserved and all the patients were followed up at least for 12mo.
RESULTS: Mean preoperative IOP was 35. 20±7. 28mmHg and reduced to 10. 15±3. 34, 11. 23±3. 56, 15. 63±5. 72, 17. 17±5. 47, 17. 73±6. 23,19. 76±5. 43mmHg at 1, 2wk, 1, 3, 6 and 12mo after surgery, which was significant different from the preoperative level (t = 12. 643, 11. 837, 10. 324, 8. 839, 8. 462, 8. 046, all P < 0. 05 ). Visual acuity was not significantly different between pre - operation and 12mo post- operation ( Z = - 0. 420, P > 0. 05). At 12mo after operation, the complete success rate reached 78% and the conditional success rate reached 92%. There were 5 eyes complicated with shallow anterior chamber, 3 eye complicated with anterior chamber hemorrhage, which all recovered after additional treatments. Late complications included valve exposure and encapsulated cystic blebs around the plate. Severe corneal endothelium loss occurred in 1 patient.
CONCLUSION: Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation is effective in reducing IOP at 1-year follow-up in refractory glaucoma patients with prior sequential failed trabeculectomy, but we should fully understand and attach great importance to all kinds of complications that may occur.

China Pharmacist 2015;(2):241-243
Objective:To study the scavenging activity of macroporous resin isolate of gynostemma pentaphyllum on free radical DPPH. Methods:The extract of gynostemma pentaphyllum via water boiling and precipitation with ethanol was separated by macro-porous resin respectively eluted by water, 40% ethanol and 80% ethanol to obtain the corresponding isolates. The antioxidant activity of the three isolates was determined by free radical DPPH systematic method, and the results were compared with that of gallic acid and ascorbic acid. Results: The 50% inhibitory concentration on free radical DPPH of the three isolates was 0. 081 2, 0. 028 7 and 0. 541 0 g·L-1 ,respectively. The 40% ethanol isolate had the highest saponins concentration. Conclusion:The macroporous resin i-solate with different solvent all shows antioxidant activity and the 40% ethanol isolate has the strongest effect, suggesting saponins may be the active substances for the lipid-lowering, hypoglycemic and free radical scavenging activities.

Abstract: Objective To analyze the effect of nutrition package on the nutritional status and prevalence of children in rural areas of Hainan Province, and provide scientific basis and suggestions for further improving the nutritional and health status of children in this region. Methods Four cities and counties were randomly selected as the intervention group, and four cities and counties matched with the intervention group in terms of population, economy, social culture, maternal and child health work foundation of township health centers, physical nutrition and health status were selected as the control group. With the combination of monitoring and prospective cohort study, infants in the intervention group and the control group were studied from June 1, 2020, and they were intervened for 12 months with supplementary food nutrition package. Before and after intervention, the nutrition and health status of infants aged 6-24 months in the intervention group and the control group were investigated to evaluate the nutritional and health effects of supplementary food nutrition package for infants aged 6-24 months in rural Hainan Province. Results A total of 999 infants were investigated, including 427 in the intervention group and 572 in the control group. After 12 months of nutritional intervention, there was no significant difference in weight-for-age Z-score (WAZ) and height-for-age Z-score (HAZ) and weight-for-height Z-score (WHZ) between the intervention group and the control group (P>0.05). The rate of emaciation of the intervention group was 1.64%, which was significantly lower than 3.67% of the control group (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in the rate of growth retardation (2.81% and 3.32%, respectively) and underweight (0.47% and 1.92%, respectively) between the intervention group and the control group (P>0.05). The rate of respiratory infection and diarrhea in the intervention group were 9.13% and 1.17%, which were significantly lower than corresponding 23.25% and 3.15% in the control group (P<0.05). The hemoglobin of the intervention group and the control group were 117.24 g/L and 114.51 g/L respectively, and the rates of anemia were 11.11% and 22.84% respectively, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). Conclusions The intervention of nutrition package in rural areas of Hainan Province has achieved the expected results, and supplementary food nutrition package has reduced the incidence of malnutrition and respiratory infection and diarrhea in recent two weeks in infants and anemia to a certain extent. We should attach great importance to the supplementary nutrition package for right-age children and promote the growth and health of children in rural areas through supplementary nutrition package, and continuously improve the nutrition and health level of children in Hainan Province.

Journal of Experimental Hematology 2011;19(3):557-560
Relapse, which puzzled several generations of hematologists, is the bottle-neck of radical treatment for leukemias. The progress of Human Microbiome Project at the beginning of 21st century suggested that human body was a super-organism constituted by the core of human cells and symbiotic microorganisms. The elucidation and characterization of endogenous retrovirus and prion protein suggested the possible effects of co-evolutional microorganisms on human health. Recently, the elucidation of the roles of tunneling nanotubes in intercellular communication and transportation suggested a novel way for cellular communication and transport of oncogenic materials. The role and significance of in vivo cell fusion have been studied in more detail. On the other hand, donor cell leukemia was reported. All of these approaches provide novel insights for studying the mechanism of leukemia relapse. Based on previous work, the authors suggest the hypothesis: there are two possible mechanisms for the relapse of leukemias: the minimal residual disease (MRD) and intercellular transportation of oncogenic materials.

OBJECTIVETo describe the current status of mortality breast cancer in Chinese females between 2004 and 2005, as well as its developing trend from 1973 to 2005.
METHODSThe data of female breast cancer deaths and number of female under exposure were collected through the Third National Mortality Retrospective Sampling Survey, which covered a total of 69 690 241 person years of females. The data was descriptively analyzed, and compared with the data of time-trend of breast cancer mortality in the previous two surveys in 1973 - 1975 and 1990 - 1992 respectively.
RESULTSThe crude mortality of female breast cancer in China in 2004 - 2005 was 5.90 per 100 000 (4112/69 690 241), ranking the sixth most common cancer death in Chinese females, and accounted for 5.90% (4112/69 667) of all female deaths from cancer. The crude mortality of female breast cancer was 6.86/100 000 (1777/25 900 856) in the eastern China, 5.91/100 000 (1431/24 225 738) in the central China and 4.62/100 000 (904/19 563 647) in the western China. The age-standardized mortality among Chinese standard population of female breast cancer in urban area (4.91/100 000, 1899 death cases) was 1.44 times higher than that in rural area (3.42/100 000, 2213 death cases). The crude mortality increased 99.99% from 1973 - 1975 (2.95/100 000) to 2004 - 2005 (5.90/100 000), the absolute figure increased by 2.95/100 000. The age-standardized mortality among Chinese standard population increased 37.85% from 1973 - 2005 (2.88/100 000) to 2004 - 2005 (3.97/100 000), the absolute figure increased 1.09/100 000.
CONCLUSIONThe mortality of female breast cancer in urban area was higher than that in rural area, and it decreased from the eastern China, to the central China and to the western China in turn. The mortality of female breast cancer has constantly increased in China since 1973.
