OBJECTIVE: To summary the application of new types of nanoparticles carriers emerged in recent years in drug or gene delivery. METHODS: By sorting, analyzing and summarizing domestic and foreign literatures, the characteristics, in vivo and in vitro properties and the applications in pharmacy of novel nanoparticles carriers such as nano cochleates, virus-like particles, hydrogel nanoparticles, gold nanoshells, carbon nanomaterials, quantum dots and dendrimers were reviewed and elaborated. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: Nanoparticles possess special physical and chemical properties which could improve the stability and bioavailability of drugs and have a targeting and sustained release effect.

Objective To analyze the influence of different types of seizures and nonepileptic events on peripheral white blood cell (WBC)counts. Methods We prospectively collected blood samples from all patients and detered WBC count to evaluate the relation of each type of seizure,duration,frequencies,and ttme lapse between a seizure and collection of blood sample to peripheral WBC count. Results Peripheral WBC count was elevated in about 50% cases after a generalized seizure. The length of a seizures was positively associated, whereas its frequencies and the lapse time was negatively correlated with the increase in WBC counts. Conclusion Peripheral WBC counts increase significantly after a generalized seizure.

Nowadays,stem cells are recognized as the most promising seed cells of tissue engineering due to their self replication ability and multilineage differentiation potential.In order to apply them to tissue engineering,a variety of physical and biochemical methods were tried to promote the proliferation,function and differentiation,and good effects were achieved.Recently,as a rising method of physical stimulation,electrical stimulation received more and more attention and had been proved to have good effects on stem cell proliferation and differentiation.This paper summarized the advances in promoting effects of electrical stimulation on stem cell proliferation and differentiation,and discussed the possible mechanisms of stem cell differentiation induced by electrical stimulation.

Objective To study the clinical significance of recognizing Zuckerkandl tubercle (ZT) during thyroid surgery. Methods One hundred and sixty-one patients (218 sides) having underwent thyroid lobectomy or thyroidectomy were retrospectively analyzed. The presence of ZT, the position and size of ZT, and the relationship between ZT and recurrent laryngeal nerve (RLN), superior parathyroid (SP) were observed. Results In 218 sides, 179 sides (82.1%) found ZT, with right side in 93 cases and left side in 86 cases. The main relationship between ZT and RLN was A type, accounting for 90.5%(162/179). There were no statistical differences in ZT grade and the relationship type between ZT and RLN between left side and right side (P>0.05). There was negative correlation in ZT grade and the relationship type between ZT and RLN (r=-0.269, P<0.01). In right side, 92.3%(72/78) of SP located on the top of ZT at 10-11 o′clock position;in left side, 94.6%(70/74) of SP located on the top of ZT at 1-2 o′clock position. Conclusions ZT is an important anatomical mark in the thyroid surgery, which helps to identify and protect the RLN and SP, so as to reduce surgical complications.

Objective To explore central lymph node metastasis (CLNM) of cN0 papillary thyroid carcinoma(PTC).Methods We evaluate the clinical data of 245 patients with cN0 unilateral TPC undergoing total thyroidectomy and bilateral central lymph node dissection.Results Central lymph node metastasis of cN0 TPC was 36.8％ (91/245),significantly related to gender(x2 =5.626,P =0.018),age (x2 =6.255,P =0.012),tumor size (x2 =20.063,P ＜ 0.001) and capsule invasion (x2 =15.024,P ＜ 0.001).The central lymph node metastasis was 51.7％ (60/116) in 116 patients with tumor size ＞ 1 cm,and the contralateral CLNM was 22.4％ (26/116) which was related to capsule invasion (x2 =9.737,P =0.002) and delphian LNM(x2 =10.982,P =0.001) There were 6 cases (2.4％) suffering from temporary unilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury.96 cases (39.2％) suffered from temporary hypoparathyroidism and 3 cases (1.2％) from permanent hypoparathyroidism.The median follow-up time was 40 months.6 cases were found regional lymph node recurrence on the ipsilateral side.Tumor size ＞ 1 cm was significantly related with recurrence (P =0.008),as CLNM with higher recurrence rate (P =0.001).Conclusions CLNM is common in cN0 PTC patients,and central lymph node metastases increase the risk of recurrence.Prophylactic bilateral central lymph node dissection is suggested for tumor size ＞ 1 cm cases.

Lyotropic liquid crystal(LLC) is generally a kind of micelle association formed by self-assembly of amphiphilic lipid polymers in polar solvents. It have been applied in the study of drug delivery of administration of oral, skin injection, ocular, and cavity channel routes(including buccal cavity, nasal cavity, vagina), et al. Medical liquid crystal mainly includes lamellar phase, inverse hexagonal phase and inverse cubic phase. Inner assembling order in different structures of liquid crystals will affect the drug localization, viscosity, molecular interactions, and further drug release in vitro and in vivo, pharmacokinetics and so on. Thus, it is very important to characterize their microstructures. In this article, the characterization methods of LLC microstructures are comprehensively described based on the research of LLC as drug delivery carrier and related literatures, which can provide reference for further study of LLC drug delivery system.

Objective - （ ） To explore the influence on the diagnosis of occupational noise induced deafness ONID using three ， Methods versions of diagnostic criteria in 2002 2007 and 2014. A total of 1 766 workers who asked for ONID diagnosis were selected as the research subjects using judgment sampling method. The results of pure tone audiometry were collected. GBZ 49-2002Diagnostic Criteria of Occupational Noise-inducedHearing Loss（ The ONID was diagnosed using hereinafter referred to as GBZ 49-2002），GBZ 49-2007Diagnostic Criteria of Occupational Noise-induced Deafness（ GBZ 49-2007） hereinafter referred to as GBZ 49-2014 Diagnostic of Occupational Noise-induced Deafness（ GBZ 49-2014）， and hereinafter referred to as and the Results - - ， - diagnostic results were compared. Compared with GBZ 49 2002 and GBZ 49 2007 diagnosis with GBZ 49 2014 had （ vs ， vs ， P ）， （ vs ， a higher rate of ONID 57.9% 66.0% 44.8% 66.0% both <0.01 and had a higher rate of mild ONID 47.3% 54.6% vs ， P ） - - 36.0% 54.6% both <0.01 . The diagnostic rate for ONID using GBZ 492014 was higher than those using GBZ 49 2002 and - （ P ）Conclusion - GBZ 49 2007 in each age groups all <0.01 . GBZ 49 2014 improved the diagnostic rate of ONID compared - - with GBZ 49 2002 and GBZ 49 2007. The reason is related to the inclusion of 4 000 Hz hearing threshold with a weight of 0.1 - as the diagnostic hearing threshold and the use of a new age and gender correction method in GBZ 49 2014.

Objective: Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) represent a promising population for supporting new clinical concepts in cellular therapy, and they can be reprogrammed into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) by defined factors. Methods: This method opened up a new era of stem cell research, because the transplantation rejection of iPSCs is the bottleneck of its clinical application, so seeking alternative compounds and animal origin diagnostic reagents to achieve full chemical iPSCs is to be done to solve this problem. Results: The application of these iPSCs has largely been associated with well known undesirable effects such as the development of cancers in certain experimental models. This has called for the search and use of reprogramming factors that are safe. Chinese materia medica (CMM) with tonifying kidney function (TKF) offers an alternative source. On the other hand, human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (hUMSCs) are known to be a "young" source of MSCs, hUMSCs transplantation is an attractive approach for acute kidney injury repair. Therefore, In this study, we investigated whether the treatment of CMM with TKF on hUMSCs could enhance the repair in mice model of acute kidney injury after transplantation. Conclusion: Our results showed that the treatment of hUMSCs with kidney tonifying CMM increased their multipotency, improved the renal function of mice and enhanced subsequent homing to the injured kidney in an acute kidney injury mice model.

Objective To investigate the prevalence and spectrum of β-thalassemia mutations in C, uangdong province, and provide a reference for prenatal diagnosis and genetic counseling in this population. Methods Three thousand two hundred and forty-seven blood samples were randomly selected from Guangzhou and 2984 blood samples from Shenzhen from January in 2005 to January in 2009. PCR and reverse dot blot hybridization (RDB) were adopted for detection of β-thalassemia mutations in Guangzhou and Shenzhen city. Results Seven hundred and fifty-one individuals in Guangzhou were found to have β-hemoglobin gene mutations, the detection rate was 23.13%(751/3247); 10 different mutations were identified, namely CD41-42(-TCTT), IVS-Ⅱ-654(C→T), -28(A→G), CDI7(A→T), CD71-72(+A), 13E, IVS-I-1(G→T), CD43(G→T), -29(A→G), CDI4-15(+G), which accounted for 42.53% (336/790) ,25.19% (199/790), 12.66% (100/790), 10.89% (86/790) ,3.29% (26/790), 2.15%(17/790), 1.27%( 10/790), 1.14%(9/790) ,0.51%(4/790) ,0.38%(3/790), respectively; the most common mutation was CD41-42(-TCTT), which accounted for 42.53%(336/790). In Shenzhen, 179 individuals were found to have β-thalassemia mutations, the detection rate was 6.00% (179/2984); 8 different mutations were identified excluding CD43 (G→T) and CD14-15 (+G); the most common mutation, however, was IVS-lI--654(C→T), which accounted for 40.44% (74/183). Conclusions The β-thalassemia mutations in Guangdong province are not only frequent, but also obviously heterogeneous, and the mutations differ from region to region. CD41-42 (-TCTT),ⅣS-Ⅱ-654(C→T), -28(A→G), CD17(A→T) were the 4 predominant mutations.

Objective To investigate the protective effect of sevoflurane on the brain against focal ischemia-reperfusion(I/R)injury and its mechanism.Methods Twenty-four male SD rats weighing 250-300 g were randomly allocated into 3 groups(n=8 each):group Ⅰ sham operation;grouop Ⅱ I/R and group Ⅲ I/R + sevoflurane.The rats were anesthetized with intraperitoneal chloral hydrate 300 mg?kg~(-1).Middle cerebral artery occlusion(MCAO)was produced by insertion of a 4-0 mono-filament nylon thread with rounded tip at bifurcation of right common carotid artery into internal carotid artery.The nylon thread was advanced cranially until resistance was felt.The depth of insertion was 18-20 mm.After 3 h MCAO the thread was withdrawn to allow reperfusion.In group Ⅲ the animals inhaled 1.0 MAC sevoflurane for 30 min at 30 min before reperfusion.The rectal temperature of the animals was kept at 36.5-37.5℃.At the end of 24 h reperfusion the animals were weighed again.The animals'neurological deficit was evaluated using Zea Longa score(0=no defcit,4=unable to walk and unconscious).The animals were then killed.The neuronal apoptosis in striatum was assessed(TUNEL)and the PKC protein expression in striatum was determined by immunocyto-chemistry.Results The body weight of the animals in I/R group was significantly reduced after 24h reperfusion as compared to the body weight before ischemia (P＜0.01),while in control group and sevoflurane group there was no significant difference in the body weight before and after sham operation or I/R.The neurological deficit scores were significantly higher in I/R group than in sevoflurane group.The number of apoptotic neurons in striatum was significantly higher in I/R group than in sevoflurane group.The PKC expression in striatum was significantly higher in sevoflurane group than in I/R group (P＜0.01).Conclusion 1.0 MAC sevoflurane inhalation has protective effect on the brain against I/R injury. Upregulation of PKC expression in striatum decreased by I/R is involved in the mechanism.
