0.05).Morphology showed slight dilation of the vessels in the superficial part of lamina propria in the 100 ?mol/L capsaicin group. In the group treated with 2 mmol/L capsaicin, erosion of the mucosa, edema and capillary distention in the lamina propria were seen as well as focal damage to the superficial muscle near the lamina propria. This led to hematuria in the early stage. The mucosal changes started to heal after 1 week and returned to normal after 8 weeks. Conclusions In rats, intravesical capsaicin instillation at a dose of 100 ?mol/L appears to be a safe method of treatment.High doses of capsaicin may result in some reversible damages of the mucosa and inflammatory changes of the bladder.

AIM:To evaluate the effect of Huazhuo Jiedu Huoxue Recipe(Herba Agastaches,Herba Eupatorii,Rhizoma Pinelliae,Pericarpium Citri reticulatae,Poria, etc.) on plasma orphanin FQ(OFQ) and prostaglandins in the patients of endometriosis(EM) with pain.METHODS:The concentrations of plasma OFQ and prostaglandins were measured by radioimmunoassay before and after the treatment on the patients of EM with pain.29 patients of EM with severe pain(severe group),31 patients with slight pain(slight group) and 25 patients without pain(control group) were studied.RESULTS:The levels of OFQ、 PGF_(2a)、 PGE_2、 6-keto-PGF_(1a) and TXB_2 in plasma were significantly higher in patients of EM with pain than that of patients without pain(P

Objective To summarize the causes, diagnosis and treatment of transurethral resection syndrome (TURS) during the transurethral vaporization of the prostate (TUVP). Methods Among 322 consecutive patients who underwent TUVP, TURS happened in 27 patients (8.4%). Their clinical data on the operation, monitoring and treatment were retrospectively reviewed. Results Of the 27 patients, the mean operative time was 95 min (52~170 min), the mean blood loss was 251 ml (100~700 ml), and the mean weight of resected prostate was 36.1 g (16~82 g). During the operation the prostatic capsule was perforated in 21 patients (78%). Postoperatively, all the patients had yawning, hypotension and bradycardia. Their serum sodium concentrations during TURS were 122.3?9.6 mmol/L, which was 16.3?4.5 mmol/L lower than before the operation, with significant difference ( t=)14.211,P90 min). Close attention and assessment of the patient’s) vital signs and mental status can increase the early detection and treatment of TURS.

BACKGROUND: Bone-induced protein and its carrier are widely used at present; however, the source is limited, and the preparation is complex. Demineralized dental matrix (DDM) is a natural compound containing many osteoinductional proteins and carriers, thus DDM is an ideal material as the substitute of allogenic bone transplantation.OBJECTIVE: By co-culture of MC-3T3 osteoblast and DDM, to evaluate the biocompatibility of DDM via measuring proliferation and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity of osteoblast.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: A randomized controlled experiment was performed in Stomatology Hospital of Lanzhou University and Stomatology Hospital of Liwan from November 2007 to May 2009.MATERIALS: DDM was supported by Shenzhen Chuangbo Biological Products Development Co., Ltd.; hydroxyapatite (HAP) was supported by Nanjing Emperor Nano Material Co., Ltd.METHODS: 0.1 g HAP and DDM were added in to a 24-well plate, three wells per samples, and the MC-3T3 osteoblasts were seeded onto the surface of samples. After culturing for 2, 4, and 6 days, the cell proliferation percentage was calculated according to MTT assay. ALP activity was evaluated by the quantitative ALP assay.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: The effect of DDM on the proliferation and ALP activity of osteoblasts.RESULTS: The proliferation of osteoblasts in DDM group was obviously higher than that in HAP group. With culture time increasing, the ALP activity of osteoblasts in two groups was all augmented, and DDM group was higher than HAP group. There was significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: DDM can promote adhesion and proliferation of osteoblasts, and promote osteoblastic growth, displaying a great biocompatibility.

Objective To compare the safety and efficacy of the caudal block and Total Intravenous Anesthesia (TIVA) for transrectal ultrasound (TRUS) guided prostate biopsy. Methods 60 elderly patients with transrectal ultrasound guided transperineal prostate biopsy were randomized into Group A and Group B.Patients in Group A received ultrasound guided caudal block (0.33% ropivacaine 15 ml) and patients in Group B received TIVA.In operation room (T1),immediately before operation (T2) and at the end of operation (T3),mean artery pressure (MAP),heart rate (HR),breathing rate (BR) and pulse oxygen saturation (SpO2) were recorded. The patients in two groups were rated the level of mini-mental state examination (MMES) at 2 h,8 h and 24 h after operation.Complications during the whole study period were also evaluated. Results The values of MAP,HR and BR of T1 in group B were significantly lower than those at T2 (P<0.05),and were lower than those in the group A (P <0.05).The MMSE value in group A [2 h (25.66 ± 1.71) and 8 h (26.13 ± 1.52)] was significantly higher than that in group B [2 h (27.96 ± 1.71) and 8 h (29.01 ± 0.77)] at after operation (P < 0.05).The rate of usage of ephedrine (13%) and assisted ventilation (20%) in group B was higher. No significant differences were detected in side effects between the two groups. Conclusions Caudal block provides better anesthesia than TIVA for TRUS guided prostate biopsy without an increase of side effects, and it may be safely used during ambulatory surgery.

Behavioral adjustment plays an important role in the treatment and relapse of drug addiction. Nonetheless, few studies have examined behavioral adjustment and its plasticity following error commission in methamphetamine (METH) dependence, which is detrimental to human health. Thus, we investigated the behavioral adjustment performance following error commission in long-term METH addicts and how it varied with the application of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). Twenty-nine male long-term METH addicts (for > 3 years) were randomly assigned to high-frequency (10 Hz, n = 15) or sham (n = 14) rTMS of the left DLPFC during a two-choice oddball task. Twenty-six age-matched, healthy male adults participated in the two-choice oddball task pretest to establish normal performance for comparison. The results showed that 10 Hz rTMS over the left DLPFC significantly decreased the post-error slowing effect in response times of METH addicts. In addition, the 10 Hz rTMS intervention remarkably reduced the reaction times during post-error trials but not post-correct trials. While the 10 Hz rTMS group showed a more pronounced post-error slowing effect than the healthy participants during the pretest, the post-error slowing effect in the posttest of this sample was similar to that in the healthy participants. These results suggest that high-frequency rTMS over the left DLPFC is a useful protocol for the improvement of behavioral adjustment after error commission in long-term METH addicts.
