Objective:To study the laxative effect of Xianchang tea in mice. Methods:The mice were randomly divided into the blank control group, the model control group, the low dose group, the medium dose group and the high dose group(2. 275 g·kg-1, 4. 55 g·kg-1 and 13. 65 g·kg-1). The mice were treated with 0. 9% normal saline solution or Xianchang tea through intragastric ad-ministration once a day for 14 days. The mice in the model control group and the three dose groups were established the constipation model with compound diphenoxylate. The weight of mice, small intestine motor and defecation effect after the 6-hour administration were observed. Results:The small intestine motor experiments showed that the ink-impelling ratio of the high dose group was increased (P<0. 05) and the time of the first ink defecation was shorter (P<0. 05). The feces weight in 4. 55 and 13. 65 g·kg-1 dose groups were increased (P<0. 05). The feces quantity of the three dose groups showed no significant difference when compared with that of the control group (P>0. 05). Conclusion:Xianchang tea has a positive laxative effect in mice.

Objective To investigate the clinical outcome before and immediately after implementation of fast track surgery protocol on patients with gastric cancer. Methods One hundred and thirty patients with gastric cancer in our hospital underwent an elective, uncomplicated, open gastric surgery before (Traditional care group,n =65) and immediately after implementing fast track surgery (Fast track surgery group,n =65).Postoperative food and fluid intake, mobilization, length of hospital stay, and clinical outcome were recorded and analysed, and a interview-based assessment was performed on days 14 and 30 postoperatively. Results Patients implemented fast track surgery were associated with a significantly earlier resumption of mobilization and oral fluids and normal diet, shorter duration of intravenous infusion compared with traditional care patients 0.3 (0-1) d vs 3.3 (2-4) d,0.2(0-1) d vs 3.5(3-4) d,3.3(3-4) d vs 5.6(5-6) d,3.4(3-4) d vs 5.2(5-6) d; P=0.000,respectively.Postoperative hospital stay was also shorter in fast track surgery group 6.6 (6-8) d vs 8.6 (8-9) d ; P =0.000.Instrumental activities of daily living decreased in both groups on day 14,but significantly more in the traditional care group, despite having a higher preoperative instrumental activities of daily living level compared with the fast track surgery group 5.0 (3-6) vs 3.0 (3-5),4.0 (3-6) vs 3.0 (3-5) ; P =0.000,respectively.Preoperative fatigue score was not different between two groups, but the fatigue score was significantly increased on day 14,and returned to normal value on day 30 in the traditional care group 2.0 (1-5) vs 3.0 (1-5),2.0(1-5) vs 2.0(1-6) ; P =0.005,P =0.065.Total length of sleep on day 14 was increased significantly in the traditional care group, but not changed in the fast track surgery group compared with preoperative value 9.0 (6-11) vs 8.0(5-10) h,8.0(5-11) vs 8.0(6-10) h; P=0.000,P=0.327.Conclusions A fast track surgery protocol can lessen postoperative stress reactions and enhance recovery for patients with gastric cancer undergoing an elective, uncomplicated, open resection.
3.Development of the controller for alternative nebulizer.
Chinese Journal of Medical Instrumentation 2010;34(3):207-208
OBJECTIVETo develop a nebulizer controller which can be used to control the ultrasonic nebulizer and spray atomizer which can optimize the working of the nebulizer in pulse way, in a purpose to save the medication and minimize the impact on the environment.
METHODSDesign the controller by using SCM to adjust the frequency and duty factor of the nebulizer pulse. The output pulse of the controller can drive a relay or a electromagnetic valve to control the pulse work of the two kind of nebulizer.
RESULTSThe controller can work in a pulse way, and patients can inhale in pace with the nebulizer.
CONCLUSIONThe controller can save the medication by 50%, and reduce the impact on the environment by 50%.

Objective To explore the treatment characteristics and effect of hip fracture in aged patients. Methods A retrospective analysis was performed in 143 elderly patients with hip fracture, aged 75 years and over. 28 cases received non-surgery treatment and 115 cases received surgery treatment. Much of them had at least one chronic disease. The complications, preoperative preparation, operative indications, internal fixation devices, postoperative management, mortality rate and recovery rate were reviewed. Results The mortality rate of nonoperative management patients was 39.3% (11/28) in one year, and that of operative management patient was 8.7% (10/115). The recovery rate of nonoperative management patients was 28.5% (8/28) in one year, and that of operative management patients was 75.3% (79/115). Conclusions If full attention is paid to preoperative treatments, hip fracture of aged patients treated by operation is safe and effective.

Objective To investigate palmar hyperhidrosis (PH) and the effects on mental health in a military command. Methods 26 392 soldiers were enrolled in this study by stratified-cluster random sampling. Each was required to complete a self-administered questionnaire regarding PH.The soldiers were assessed with symptom checklist-90 (SCL-90) and the factor scores were compared with army norm and civilian norm. Results A total of 25680 subjects fulfilled the questionnaires, and the response rate was 97.3%.The prevalence of PH in the survey sample was 2.66% and the mild, moderate, and severe PH were 1.49%,0.83%,and 0.34%,respectively.The total mean score of SCL-90 in soldiers with PH (1.72±0.54) was higher than those none PH soldiers (1.65±0.58),civilian norm (1.49±0.41) and military norm (1.63±0.30).Multiple regression analysis showed that age, level of education and severity of PH were important factors for mental health of soldiers with PH (P<0.05).Conclusion PH is more common in the military, which affect the mental health. The health service departments should pay attention to the treatment and psychological intervention of PH.
