This in vitro study demonstrated that taurine supplemented culture medium enhanced alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, osteocalcin secretion and mineralized matrix formation. Taurine induced activation of ERKI/2 and osteoblast differentiation, which was blocked by pretreatment of osteoblasts with ERKI/2 inhibitor (PD98059), suggesting taurine stimulated osteoblast differentiation via ERKI/2.

Objective:
By analyzing the examination results of physical examination of workers exposed to DMF among 32 factories in some areas of a province, to investigate the working years of dimethylformamide (DMF) poisoning and the impact on the health status of exposed workers, and to explore the targeted intervention strategies.
Methods:
From February to May 2018, 2, 457 workers exposed to DMF in some areas of Jiangsu Province were selected as survey targets. Cross-sectional survey was conducted to investigate the health status of workers exposed to health, And the health surveillance data, detection data of occupational disease risk factors in the workplace were collected and analyzed, respectively.
Results:
The positive rate of abnormal liver function and B-ultrasound of males exposed to DMF was significantly higher than that of females. The abnormal rates of liver function, blood pressure and B-ultrasound in workers aged between 60 and 69 were higher in contrast to those in any other age groups. And the differences was statistically significant. In particular, the highest rate of abnormal blood pressure was found in workers exposed 21-30 years (39.2%) , the highest rate of abnormal liver function was found in workers exposed 11-20 years (44.3%) , and the highest rate of abnormal B-ultrasound was found in workers exposed 0-10 years (60.4%) .
Conclusion
Long-term exposure to dimethylformamide can affect workers’ liver function and blood pressure. Specifically, with the increase of contact age, the degree of chronic damage to liver, cardiovascular and other organs also increases.

Objective:To investigate the clinical, skeletal muscle pathological, and genetic characteristics of fatal infantile hypertonic myofibrillar myopathy (FIHMM).Methods:The clinical manifestations, laboratory assessments data and gene sequencing results of 10 patients diagnosed with FIHMM in Shenzhen Children′s Hospital from February 2017 to April 2021 were retrospectively analyzed.Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of both musculoskeletal system and the brain, and electromyogram (EMG) were performed in 3 cases, while muscle biopsy was performed in 2 cases. Results:Among these 10 cases, 1 case was from Northeast China and 1 case from East China, while the rest 8 cases were from South China.Eight of the 10 patients were male, and the other 2 cases were female. They were all born normal and not related to each other. The age of onset varied from 2 to 12 months. The main clinical manifestations for all the patients were progressive rigidity of the rectus abdominis (8 cases), neck muscles (7 cases), rectus abdominis (2 cases) and intercostal muscles (1 case), resulting in respiratory failure.Mildly to moderately elevated serum creatine kinase level was detected (436-5 804 IU/L) (reference range: 24-229 IU/L). Complex repetitive discharges can be seen in the EMG, without any myotonic potential.Muscle fiber degeneration, necrosis, and vacuolar degeneration were noted in the histopathological examination of the vastus lateralis and rectus abdominis. An abnormal red granular deposit was observed in a portion of the field of the modified Gomory Trichrome staining.Immunohistochemistry showed substantial deposition of desmin.Under the electron microscopy, the sarcomere structure of the muscle fibers was seriously disordered, with the destruction of Z-bands and the presence of granular deposits. The whole-exome sequencing identified the same homozygous variation c. 3G>A, p.Met1? of CRYAB gene in all the patients, but heterozygous variation in their parents. Conclusions:Axial muscles involvement, such as rectus abdominis rigidity, is the main clinical characteristic of FIHMM.c.3G>A, p.Met1? mutation in the CRYAB gene is a hotspot mutation in Chinese children.

Objective:To explore the genetic and environmental effects on alcohol intake. Methods:Data on 9 231 pairs of adult twins of the same sex was collected from the Chinese National Twin Registry (CNTR), between 2015 and 2018 and used in this study. Structural equation model was used to estimate the effects of genetic and environmental factors on alcohol intake. Results:A total of 9 231 pairs of twins were included in the analysis, of which 6 085 pairs were monozygotic (MZ). The average age of MZ was (36.91±13.07) years old, and males accounted for 56.80 %. The average age of dizygotic twins (DZ) was (35.22±12.48) years old, and males accounted for 55.91 %. There were 350 pairs of alcohol-drinking twins were with high-risk, accounting for 1.90 % and another 367 pairs (1.99 %) were with medium-risk. Alcohol-drinkers with medium-risk were affected by additive genetics, common and unique environmental factors, seen among the twins. The overall heritability appeared as 24.3 % (95 %CI: 0 to 56.8 %). Furthermore, 50.7 % of the variation (95 %CI: 20.4 %-79.0 %) could be explained by the common environmental factors and 24.9 % (95 %CI: 18.3 %-36.5 %) by unique environmental factors. High-risk related drinking behavior was affected by both common and unique environmental factors. The common environmental component appeared as 75.6 % (95 %CI: 69.6 %-80.8 %) and unique environmental component as 24.4 % (95 %CI: 19.2 %-30.4 %), respectively. Gender difference was seen in the heritability of those with medium or high-risk drinking behaviors. The heritability of men was 30.8 % (95 %CI: 9.8 %-53.5 %), while in women it was mainly affected by the environment. Conclusion:Both alcohol drinkers with medium and high-risk drinking behaviors were mainly affected by the environment factors and gender. With the increase of drinking volume, the effect of environment on drinking behaviors became more obvious.
