Objective To evaluate the clinical effectiveness of video electroencephalogram (VEEG) in neonatal seizure. Methods Seizures attacks of 64 newborns with gestational ages 28-44 weeks were monitored by VEEG. Results Incidence of abnormal VEEG was 32. 8%. Among 64 cases found in the VEEG, 13 cases had epileptic discharge in the ictal VEEGs. Three cases showed epileptic discharge in the interictal VEEGs with normal background rhythm. Two cases presented epileptic discharge in the interictal VEEGs with abnormal background rhythm. Three cases had abnormal background rhythm only. Discharge frequency during sleeping was more quick than that during awake-ness, mostly in the quiet sleep phase. Most frequently ictal epileptic discharges were a focal onset (16/ 18) , and 13 cases happened in the temple lobe. No epileptic discharge in the ictal and interictal VEEGs were tested in 46 cases attacked with seizures, which were diagnosed as non-epileptic seizures. Conclusions VEEG plays an important role in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis in epilepsy and non-epileptic seizure in newborns, and is valuable to perform early to improve prognosis.

Objective To detect the infection rate of human papillomavirus (HPV) types in keratoacanthoma (KA) tissue, and to study the distribution of HPV DNA-positive cells. Methods In situ hybridization was performed to detect HPV subtypes 6/11, 16/18, and 31/33 in paraffin-embeded tissue samples from 46 patients with KA and 34 nomal human controls. Results Mucosal HPV DNA was positive in 31 (67.39%)of the 46 KA samples, and mixed infection rate of HPV amounted to 83.87% (26/31) in these positive samples.The DNA of tested mucosal HPV types existed mainly in episomal status. Positive reactions were observed within or at the edge of nuclei. HPV infected cells showed a stripe-, slice-like or focal distribution mainly in superficial middle lamina of spinous layer at the bottom or lateral margin of crater-shaped epidermal depression. No mucosal HPV DNA was noted in normal control samples. Conclusions Compared with normal controls, patients with KA are infected with mucosal HPV at a higher frequency, and mucosal HPV DNA mainly exists in episomal status in KA tissue, hinting that HPV infection play a certain role in the pathogenesis of KA.

Objective To investigate the clinical significance of antinucleosome antibody (AnuA) in the patients with lupus erythematosus (LE) through detecting the serum level of AnuA in different types of LE patients before and after treatment. Methods Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used to detect the serum level of AnuA in 31 SLE patients, 26 SCLE patients, 7 DLE patients, 6 scleroderma patients, 5 dermatomyositis patients and 30 healthy controls. Among them, the serum levels of AnuA before and after treatment were detected in 15 SLE patients and 10 SCLE patients. Clinical data, laboratory test results and the scores of SLE disease activity index (SLEDAI) were analyzed with SPSS11.0 software. Objective To assess the diagnostic significance of T cell receptor gamma gene rearrangemerits in mycosis fungoides (MF), so as to develop a sensitive diagnosis tool. Methods A total of 50 specimens were collected, including 33 skin lesion specimens and 2 lymph specimens from 30 patients with MF,15 skin lesion specimens from 15 patients with inflammatory dermatoses. PCR was performed with specific primers targeting TCR V gamma 8, 9, 10, 11 to detect T cell receptor gamma gene rearrangement. Results Monoclonai rearrangements of TCR gene was observed in 88% (29/33) of specimens from patients with MF and 33% (5/15) of samples from patients with inflammatory dermatoses. Conclusions The detection of TCR gene rearrangements, as an ancillary test, is useful in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of MF.

The incidence of colorectal cancer is high among the elderly. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been widely used in the treatment for colorectal cancer of old people. However, controlled trials with large sample size evaluating the effect of TCM are rare.

BACKGROUND:Studies have shown that both Panax notoginseng saponins and concentrated growth factor can promote fracture healing,but there are few studies addressing their combined effects on fracture healing.Panax notoginseng saponins may accelerate fracture healing by promoting the release of concentrated growth factor-related factors over a certain period of time. OBJECTIVE:To study the effect of Panax notoginseng saponins on concentrated growth factor release and fracture healing in rats. METHODS:Eighteen 8-week-old Sprague-Dawley rats were numbered and randomly divided into three groups:Panax notoginseng saponins group,model control group and blank group.Panax notoginseng saponins group was fed with Panax notoginseng saponins for 2 weeks.Model control group was given 2 mL of normal saline for 2 weeks and blank group was fed normally.Concentrated growth factor was obtained by the centrifugation method both from the Panax notoginseng saponins group and model control group.After 1 week of normal feeding,all animals underwent modeling for femoral fracture.The Panax notoginseng saponins group and the model control group were implanted with autologous concentrated growth factor,and then the release concentration of growth factors at different time points(1 hour,1,3,5,7,9 and 11 days)were measured by ELISA.Fracture healing was assessed based on postoperative X-ray and hematoxylin-eosin staining of bone tissues. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Compared with the model control group,the Panax notoginseng saponins group had higher release concentrations of vascular endothelial growth factor A and transforming growth factor β at 7,9,and 11 days,Platelet-derived growth factor BB at 5,9,and 11 days,and basic fibroblast growth factor at 1-11 days(P<0.01).X-ray examinations indicated that fracture healing in the Panax notoginseng saponins group was better than that in the model control group,and fracture healing in these two groups was better than that in the blank group at 2 months after surgery.Hematoxylin-eosin staining results found that the constituent osteocyte density in the Panax notoginseng saponins group was greater than that in the model control group,and the constituent osteocyte density in these two groups was better than that in the blank group.These findings indicate that Panax notoginseng saponins can increase the concentration of concentrated growth factor-related factors.After intervention with Panax notoginseng saponins,concentrated growth factors are more advantageous in promoting fracture healing in rats.

Background::The potential impact of pre-existing coronary artery stenosis (CAS) on acute pulmonary embolism (PE) episodes remains underexplored. This study aimed to investigate the association between pre-existing CAS and the elevation of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin I (hs-cTnI) levels in patients with PE.Methods::In this multicenter, prospective case-control study, 88 cases and 163 controls matched for age, sex, and study center were enrolled. Cases were patients with PE with elevated hs-cTnI. Controls were patients with PE with normal hs-cTnI. Coronary artery assessment utilized coronary computed tomographic angiography or invasive coronary angiography. CAS was defined as ≥50% stenosis of the lumen diameter in any coronary vessel >2.0 mm in diameter. Conditional logistic regression was used to evaluate the association between CAS and hs-cTnI elevation.Results::The percentage of CAS was higher in the case group compared to the control group (44.3% [39/88] vs. 30.1% [49/163]; P = 0.024). In multivariable conditional logistic regression model 1, CAS (adjusted odds ratio [OR], 2.680; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.243–5.779), heart rate >75 beats/min (OR, 2.306; 95% CI, 1.056–5.036) and N-terminal pro-B type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) >420 pg/mL (OR, 12.169; 95% CI, 4.792–30.900) were independently associated with elevated hs-cTnI. In model 2, right CAS (OR, 3.615; 95% CI, 1.467–8.909) and NT-proBNP >420 pg/mL (OR, 13.890; 95% CI, 5.288–36.484) were independently associated with elevated hs-cTnI. Conclusions::CAS was independently associated with myocardial injury in patients with PE. Vigilance towards CAS is warranted in patients with PE with elevated cardiac troponin levels.

Background: There is still controversy whether the existence of esophageal heterotopic gastric mucosa (EHGM) and its histological type are related to the laryngopharyngeal symptoms. Aims: To analyze the clinical and histological characteristics of EHGM and its correlation with gastroesophageal reflux. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted in consecutive gastroscopy-proved EHGM cases from September 2018 to January 2020 at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Baotou Medical College. Besides clinical data review and questionnaire survey on reflux symptoms, histological typing of EHGM and immunohistochemistry were also performed in some cases. Results: A total of 1 229 cases of EHGM were recruited. The male-to-female ratio was 1.67:1, and middle-aged people were predominant. Most of the heterotopic mucosa were located 15-18 cm away from the incisors, and were mainly single. Two hundred and ninety-four cases (23.9%) were complicated with reflux esophagitis (RE), of which Los Angeles grade A and B accounted for 96.6%. Regurgitation/acid reflux (15.5 %) and heartburn (12.3%) were the most common esophageal symptoms, while extraesophageal symptoms were rare. Histological typing was obtained in 57 cases, of which, 37 (64.9%) were cardia-type, 18 (31.6%) were fundic-type, and 2 (3.5%) were mixed type. Objective: To investigate the correlation between the proliferation inhibition effect of glucocorticoid (GC) on peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) and the pure tone average (PTA) improvement in SSNHL patients. Methods: Sixty inpatients with SSNHL were included from July 2013 to October 2015 in Nanjing Drum Tower Hospital, Medical School of Nanjing University. Peripheral venous blood was collected before receiving treatment, then the PBMC was isolated for GC proliferation inhibition. PBMCs of each patient were cultivated into 4 groups: Group A: PBMCs+ Medium; Group B: PBMCs+ Medium+ lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 1 μmol/L); Group C: PBMCs+ Medium+ LPS+ Dexamethasone; Group D: Medium. PBMCs were maintained in a humidified 5% CO₂ atmosphere at 37°C and were observed after 24 hours. 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) was used to measure PBMC proliferation inhibition rate. The PBMC proliferation inhibition rates were calculated according to the absorbance at 490 nm wavelength under a microtiter plate reader. Independent sample t tests of PBMC proliferation inhibition rate were performed between different groups. χ² tests were performed between gender, affected ear side, accompanied by vertigo or not, audiometric curve, time period from onset to treatment, PBMC proliferation inhibition rate and the improvement of pure tone average (PTA). Linear correlation analyses were performed between PBMC proliferation inhibition rate, the time period from onset to treatment and the hearing improvement. Results: The proliferation inhibition effect of GC on PBMC varied significantly among patients. The PBMC proliferation inhibition rate in GC insensitive group was lower than that in GC sensitive group (26.72%±21.82% vs 64.44%±25.48%, t=6.113, P<0.05). The PBMC proliferation inhibition rate in refractory group was lower than that in initial group (40.93%±28.57% vs 57.04%±31.19%, t=2.035, P=0.046). There was no statistical significance between gender, affected ear side, accompanied by vertigo or not, audiometric curve and the hearing improvement (χ² value was 2.320, 0.031, 2.143, 0.106, respectively, all P>0.05). Both in initial group and refractory group, the linear correlation analyses showed a significant positive correlation between PBMC proliferation inhibition rate and the PTA improvement (r value was 0.615, 0.657, respectively, all P<0.05), as well as a significant negative correlation between time period from onset to treatment and the PTA improvement(r value was -0.542, 0.370, respectively, all P<0.05). Conclusions The proliferation inhibition rate of PBMC in vitro by GC is correlated with patients′ hearing improvement. The proliferation inhibition test might be used to predict the sensitivity to GC treatment and be helpful for individualized treatment of SSNHLin clinical practice.
