Objective: To study the effective initiating time of the maxillary protraction therapy for the children with skeletal classⅢ malocclusion. Methods: 20 cases with class Ⅲ malocclusion were divided into 2 groups: older group (9~ 12 years old) and younger group(5~8 years old), and treated with maxillary protraction. Before and after treatment cephalometric radiographs were taken and analyzed. Results: Good effects were found in both groups. The treatment in the younger patients showed the advantages of shorter treatment period, more skeletal changes, less dental changes and less side effects. Conclusion: Earlier maxillary protraction is more beneficial to the children with Angle Ⅲ malocclusion.

Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis 2000;12(1):70-72
Objective In order to explore the relationship between the “Wits" appraisal and the ANB angle, and to see how accurately one can predict the “Wits”. Methods Given the ANB, lateral cephalometric radiographs were taken on 50 boys and 50 girls between the ages of 11~13. Results Each subject had no treatment either a Class Ⅰ or Class Ⅱ malocclusion, a good growth pattern. Group Ⅰ , 13 subjects of 100 had ANB≤1.5°, and negative “Wits” appraisal; group Ⅱ , 61 subjects had 5.8°>ANB>1.5°, and “Wits” appraisal either positive or negative; group Ⅲ , 26 subjects had ANB angle≥5.8°, and positive “Wits” appraisal. Statistically analysis showed that there was no sig nificant difference in sex (P>0.05); there was significant correlation between the ANB and “Wits” values in the group Ⅱ and group Ⅲ (P <0. 05); there was statistical significance in regression analysis in the group Ⅰ and group Ⅱ (P <0. 05). We could predict the “Wits” with 21% accuracy in group Ⅱ. Conclusion The results indicate that these figures are statistically significant but clinically irrelevant.

Diabetic vascular disease is a major complication of diabetes, which is characterized by the formation of collateral vessels of serious damage to systemic disease. Substantial evidence have shown that timpaired endothelial progenitor cell function, non-enzymatic glycation end products accumulate, and Wnt signaling pathway dysfunction may be an important mechanism of impaired angiogenesis after the diabeticlimb ischemic. This paper is to make a study of its mechanism, and to provides a new strategy for diabetes therapeutic angiogenesis.

To study the significance of the levels of plasma inflammatory cytokines (IL-6,IL-8,IL-10 and TNF-?) in patients with acute deep venous thrombosis (DVT) of lower extremity. Methods Forty untreated DVT cases were selected as the subjects in the DVT group, while thirty healthy subjects, whose ages and genders showed no significant difference with the DVT patients, were collected as the control group. The plasma levels of IL-6, IL-8 and TNF-? were detected by radioimmunoassay (RIA), and the plasma level of IL-10 was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Correlation analysis was used to investigate the relationships between the levels of different inflammatory cytokines within DVT group. Results The levels of plasma cytokines in the DVT group were all significantly higher than those in control group (P

BACKGROUND: Radix astragali has the effect of protecting cells from damage in ischemic reperfusion, whether pre-treatment with radix astragali can protect myocardial eells from apoptosis in ischemic reperfusion ? OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of pre-treatment with radix astragali on apoptosis and its relative genes in rats with ischemic myocardial reperfusion DESIGN: A randomized and controlled trial taking Wistar rats as experimental subjects.SETTING: The Basic Medical Department of Chengde Medical College and the Geriatric Department of the Affiliated Hospital.MATERIALS: The experiment was completed in the Imunnohistochemical Laboratory of Basic Medical Institute in Chengde Medical College from February to December in 2004. A total of 30 healthy male Wistar rats were selected, and at random classified as groups of radix astragali pre-treated (radix astragali), ischemic reperfusion and psuedo-operated (control), 10 rats for each group.METHODS: Radix astragali injection was given peritonealy for rats in radix astragali pre-treated group before operation, and the equivalent normai saline was given for those in ischemic reperfusion and psuedo-operated groups. One week later, the model of ischemic reperfusion was set up. After operation the myocardia in marginal zone of ischemic reperfusion were sampled, and the myocardia of the corresponding zone were taken for control group. The method of terminal (TdT)-mediated dUTP-biotin nick end labeling (TUNEL) was used for assay of myocardial apoptosis rate, and the ABC immunohistochemical method was used for assay of myocardial bcl-2 (inhibiting apoptosis gene) and bax (promoting apoptosis gene).MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Apoptosis rates, and expression of bcl2 and bax genes of myocardia RESULTS: ① Apoptosis rate of myocardial cells: The rate in radix astragali group was decreased compared with that in ischemic reperfusion group [ (14.06 ±9.97) %, (19.34±12.30) %, t = 1.863, P < 0.05].② Expression of bcl-2: There was no significant difference between radix astragali and ischemic reperfusion groups[(9.14±4.46) %, (8.99±4.54) %, P < 0.05].③ Expression of bax: The expression in radix astragali group was decreased compared with that in ischemic reperfusion group [(12.65 ±7.23)%,(18.12±7.92) %, t = 2.096, P < 0.05]CONCLUSION: Pre-treatment with radix astragali can down-regulate the expression of promoting apoptosis gene so as to reduce the rate of myocardial cell apoptosis, hence it can protect the myocardial cells in ischemic reperfusion.

Objective To study prognosis and grading of somatosensory evoked potential(SEP)in long-term unconscious patients after severe traumatic brain injury(TBI).Methods Five prognostic factors including age, sex, injury mechanism, history of temporal craniotomy and SEP grading were selected and analyzed in 47 patients after severe TBI with a duration of unconsciousness longer than two weeks. The prognosis was judged by Glasgow Outcome Scale. Results Prognosis was closely associated with SEP grading(P=0.024).The accuracy of SEP in assessing the prognosis was 91.5%.About 95%-100% of patients with SEP at grade Ⅲ-Ⅲ ended up with severe disability, persistent vegetative state or death.However,43.75% of patients with SEP at grade Ⅰ had good prognoses. Conclusions The SEP grading can objectively and accurately evaluate patients' prognosis and demonstrate the brain function.
