By using enrichment culture in liquid minimal medium or direct culture on minimal medium plates, thirteen bacterial strains (AD27-AD39) capable of utilizing atrazine as a sole nitrogen source for growth were isolated from a mixture of industrial wastewater and sludge from an atrazine manufacturing plant. Based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing, eleven strains were identified as Arthrobacter spp. and two strans were identified as Pseudomonas spp.. We further studied in detail the composition of atrazine-degrading genes and degradation characteristics of Arthrobacter sp. AD30 and Pseudomonas sp. AD39 that have high degradative activity. From PCR assays, it was indicated that both AD30 and AD39 strains contained atrazine-degrading genes trzN and atzBC and was capable of degrading toxic atrazine to nontoxic cyanuric acid. The biodegradation experiments showed that the percentage of atrazine removal were 92.5%,were 92.5%, 97.9% and 99.6% respectively after AD30, AD39 or the mixture of the two strains were inocu- lated and incubated at 30?C for 48 hours in minimal media containing 200 mg/L atrazine, indicating that atrazine degradation by the mixed bacteria was more effective than the single strain. In addition, after industrial wastewater containing 176 mg/L atrazine was inoculated with the mixed bacteria and incubated at 30?C with shaking for 72 hours atrazine were removed by 99.1%, implicating that the mixed bacteria are good candidate for biotreatment of atrazine-containing industrial wastewater.

Hypercoagulability state is the result of the interplay of genetic predisposition and risk factors. Many key enzymes and reactions in coagulation and anti-coagulation system are involved. Hereditary antithrombin deficiency is one of the major risk factors of venous thromboembolic disease (VTE), whereas hyperhomocysteinemia may also play a role. This article reviews the recent researches on the contributions of these two factors to VTE.

Objective To assess the diagnostic value of magnetic source imaging(MSI) in the preoperative localization of focal cortical dysplasia(FCD). Methods Eighty-two patients with intractable epilepsy resulting from FCD undergone preoperative assessment including MSI, video electroencephalography(VEEG) and electrocorticography(ECoG)from February 2006 to June 2012.The consistency between pre- and intra-surgical assessment was evaluated. For patients who had consistent results, postoperative curative effect was also recorded. The accuracy and predictive values of noninvasive preoperative tests were compared by χ2 test. Results For MSI and ECoG, their results were consistent in 57 cases, partially consistent in 14 cases, and inconsistent in 11 cases. In the postoperative follow-up of 57 patients with consistent results, there were 46 cases with Engel class Ⅰ, 3 cases with Engel class Ⅱ, 4 cases with Engel class Ⅲ, and 4 cases with Engel class IV. For VEEG and ECoG, the results were consistent in 43 cases, partially consistent in 33 cases, inconsistent in 6 cases. The postoperative follow-up showed that 27 cases were graded as Engel classⅠ, 5 cases as Engel classⅡ,7 cases as Engel classⅢ, and 4 cases as Engel class IV. There were statistically significant differences(χ2=5.023,P=0.025)of the concordance rate with ECoG between MSI(69.51%,57/82)and VEEG(52.44%,43/82). In the postoperative follow-up of patients with consistent results, the curative effect was better in group MSI than in group VEEG (χ2=3.989,P=0.046). Conclusions Preoperativelocalization by MSI shows advantage over VEEG, which meanswhen it achieves an agreement with ECoG, patients with FCD may get better prognosis from the surgical process.

Objective To investigate the clinical and electroencephalogram (EEG) characteristics of children with electrical status cpilepticus during sleep (ESES), and the response to medication therapy. Methods AEEG and VEEG including an entire sleeping c-ycle were performed on 26 patients with ESES. The clinical and EEG changes, neuropsychological impairment and the response to medication therapy were followed up. Results Twenty five patients had seizures,21 cases had normal psychomotor development before ESES. After the onset of the disease,Fifteen cases developed language disorder, 16 cases developed psychological and behavior abnormalities, 13 cases had both of the problems Seventeen patients belonged to epileptic syndrome. Patients in this cohort had good response to clonazepam and valproate treatment. Cortical steroid could dispel the electrical discharge. Eighteen patients had been followed up. Seizures stopped in 15 cases after treatment ESES disappeared in 16 cases, 4 of them still had neuropsychological impairment ESES sustained in 2 cases Conclusions ESES is a specific EEG phenomenon. Continue epileptic form discharge during non - rapid cye movement sleep is the major cause of neuropsychological impairment in patients with ESES. To control the seizures and electrical state are very important for the prevention and treatment of neuropsychological impairment.

The ideal treatment and recovery of osteoarticular injury remain to be resolved. Small intestinal submucosa (SIS), a naturally-occurring decellularized extracellular matrix, has been recognized as an ideal scaffold for tissue engineering and widely used in repairing various tissues and organs. Nowadays its application has also been gradually increased in the field of orthopedics. We reviewed laboratorial studies and clinical trails about the application of SIS in bone and joint repair, aiming to evaluate its effects on the repair of bone, cartilage, meniscus, ligament and tendon. SIS has showed promising results in repairing bone, meniscus, ligament or tendon. However, additional studies will be required to further evaluate its effects on articular cartilage and tendon-bone healing. How to optimize SIS material,is also a focused problem concerned with making SIS a potential therapeutic option with high value for orthopedic tissue repair.

Objective:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of allopurinol in the treatment of chronic kidney disease. Methods:The databases of Embase, PubMed and the Cochrane library were searched for randomized controlled trials of allopurinol in patients with chronic kidney disease. According to the Cochrane system evaluation method, two evaluators independently screened the literature and extracted the data, and analyzed the results with Revman 5.3 software. Results:Finally, 10 articles were included, including 940 patients (472 in the experimental group and 468 in the control group). Meta analysis showed that allopurinol treatment could reduce blood uric acid ( MD=-2.40, 95% CI: -2.74--2.05, P<0.01), 24-hour urinary protein ( MD=-0.61, 95% CI: -1.17--0.06, P=0.03) and increase estimation of glomerular filtration rate(eGFR) ( MD=2.51, 95% CI: 1.86-3.17, P<0.01). There was no significant difference in adverse events between the experimental group and the control group ( OR=1.40, 95% CI: 0.61-3.19, P=0.42), but allopurinol treatment could reduce the risk of cardiovascular events ( OR=0.58, 95% CI: 0.38-0.89, P=0.01). Conclusions:Allopurinol treatment of chronic kidney disease can reduce urinary protein, improve eGFR, and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events.

OBJECTIVETo screen serum biomarkers in patients with mycosis fungoides (MF) using surface-enhanced laser desorption and ionization with time-of-flight detection mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS) technique.
METHODSSerum was analyzed from 14 patients with MF and 17 controls using CM10 Protein-chip to capture serum proteins, followed by Biomarker Wizard software analysis.
RESULTSIn all specimens, about 131 protein peaks could be detected when the relative molecular weight ranged from 0 to 50 000. When comparing the protein fingerprint between these two groups, 14 differentially expressed protein peaks were found. By searching SWISS-PRO database, we found 7 670Da peaks accord with C-C motif chemokine 22.
CONCLUSIONSELDI-TOF-MS technique can be used for screening serum protein biomarkers in patients with MF.
