Objective To evaluate the application of SOLIS in the surgery on anterior intervertebral fusion for the treatment of traumatic cervical disc protrnsion. Methods 53 traumatic single segment cervical disc protrusion were divided into three groups randomly. The A group (SOLIS) :n=18, SOLIS filled with autocancellous bone were implanted between the cervical vertebrae. The B group(Syncage) :n =16, as the first group Syncage filled with auto-cancellous bone were implanted. The C group:n=19,anterior cervical decompression and fusion with bone autograft and internal fixation with ACPS. The operations of the surgery on anterior cervical decompression in three groups were the same. Recovery of nerve function was observed by JOA score and the fusion state, stability and changes of interver-tebra height of fusion segment were evaluated by X ray. Results The average duration of the follow-up was 16.5 months in 53 cases. Bony fusion could be found 3~9months after operation in all cases. In all A (SOLIS) group cases, the movement of the implanted $OLIS Cage were not found. The heights of the cervical intervertebral spaces and the physiological curvature were restored without loss in the duration of follow-up. The average JOA was(10.4±2.4) be-fore operation and(14.9±2.0)after operation. There was highly significant variation between the former and the latter (P<0.01). In the B (Syncage)group,5 cases had cage subsidence, therefore the height of intervertebra and the phys-iological curvature were lost. The average JOA was (10.6±2.5) before operation and (13.2±2.3) after operation. There was significant variation between the former and the latter(P<0.05). In the C group the third group, the move-ment of the fixed titanium plate were not found in the duration of follow-up in 18 cases. The titanium plate fixation was loose in 1 case. The average JOA was(10.5±2.4) bofore operation and(15.1±1.9) after operation. There was high-ly significant variation between the former and the latter(P<0.01). After operation, there was significant difference in the JOA score between the A group and the B group, between the C group and the B group(P<0.05) ,and there was no difference between the A group and the C group(P>0.05). Conclusion Treatment of single segment prolapse of the cervical intervertebral disc with SOLIS cage has some advantages such as higher fusion rate, higher recovery rate of nerve function and low rate of loss of intervertebra] height.

Chinese Journal of General Surgery 2009;24(3):200-203
Objective To evaluate magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for breast-conserving surgery. Methods In this study, 52 cases of breast cancer eligible for breast-conserving surgery judged by traditional screening methods from May 2004 to December 2007 were inspected preoperatively with MRI in order to detect the cases of muhicentric breast cancer. At the same time, tumor size and invasive extent was measured accurately with enhanced magnetic resonance sequence combined with fat-suppression to determine the minimally extent of the surgical excision required. Results In the 52 cases of breast cancer patients, 3 cases of multicentric breast cancer and 49 cases of single breast cancer were diagnosed by MRI ,there were 3 cases with extensive intraductal carcinoma in the cases of single breast cancer. The primary negative margin rate was 93.6% (44/47) in the 47 cases with breast-conserving surgery. Conclusions MRI has thesuperiority to detect the muhicentric disease and the extensive intraductal carcinoma of breast cancer. Therefore MRI is useful in determining the indication and the extent of surgical excision of breast-conservingsurgery.

Biomedical Imaging and Intervention Journal 2012;8(1):1-8
Objectives: This review was aimed at determining the imaging findings in patients with precocious puberty.
Results: Within a period of 8 years (from 2002 to 2010) there were 53 patients diagnosed with precocious puberty. Out of the 53 patients, 37 had undergone diagnostic imaging to detect the possible organic causes of precocious puberty. Imaging findings were positive in 31 patients and out of that, 3 patients had 2 findings each (34 abnormalities). Of the patients with positive imaging findings, central precocious puberty (gonadotrophin-dependent) was more common (81%; 25/31) and the causes included: tuber cinereum hamartoma (n = 10), glioma (n = 6), pineal gland tumour (n = 4), hydrocephalous (n = 3), arachnoid cyst (n = 2) and others (n = 3). Peripheral precocious puberty (gonadotrophin-independent) causes included: testicular adrenal rest tumour (n = 3), adrenal carcinoma (n = 1), ovarian granulosa thecal cell tumour (n = 1), and tuberous sclerosis (n = 1).
Conclusion: Positive imaging findings were observed in 84% (31/37) of the subjects. Hypothalamic hamartoma was the most common imaging finding in central precocious puberty while testicular adrenal rest tumour was the most common imaging finding in peripheral precocious puberty

OBJECTlVE To investigate the effect of α-glycan isolated from Isatis indigotica on humoral immunity and cellular immunity functions in mice immunized with H1N1 influenza vaccine. METHODS BALB/c mice were immunized intramuscularly once with H1N1 influenza vaccine ( 3 μg) plusα-glycan ( 100μg) each mouse. The serum total antibody titer and its isotype antibody titer of immu-nized mice were analyzed by ELlSA at 5, 8, 10, 12 and 14 d after injection at vaccine. The proliferation activities of spleen T and B lymphocytes were determined with MTT method. The levels of cytokines interferon-γ( lFN-γ) , tumor necrosis factorα( TNF-α) , interleukin-4( lL-4) and lL-12 were measured by ELlSA kits. The populations of CD4+, CD8+, CD3+ and CD19+ lymphocytes were determined by flow cytometry. Furthermore, the proliferation rate of macrophages was studied with MTT method in vitro. RESULTS The α-glycan from I.indigotica could gradually induce high specific-antibody production 5-14 d after immunization with H1N1 influenza antigen plus theα-glycan in mice compared to immunization with antigen alone ( P<0.01) . After injection of antigen withα-glycan for 5 d, the main lgG isotype was lgM, and the titer levels of total lgG, lgG1 , lgG2a and lgG2b were also significantly raised following 5-14 d after immunization. The α-glycan significantly promoted the spleen T and B lymphocytes proliferation ( growth rate 44.2%and 37.8%) , stimulated the secretion of lFN-γand lL-12 of splenocytes ( P<0.01, P<0.05) , and also promoted lL-4 secretion of thymocytes (P<0.01). The polysaccharide significantly raised the percent age of CD3+T cells ( P<0.01) , CD3+/CD19+ T lymphocytes ( P<0.01) , and CD8+ T cells ( P<0.01) but decreased the percentage of CD4+/CD8+ T lymphocytes compared with antigen alone group ( P<0.01) . Furthermore, the α-glycan exhibited significant effects on the proliferation and TNF-α secre-tion of MH-S macrophages. CONCLUSlON Theα-glycan isolated from I.indigotica can improve humoral and cellular immunity response in mice immunized with H1N1 influenza vaccine.

Journal of Cerebrovascular and Endovascular Neurosurgery 2017;19(1):12-18
OBJECTIVE: Angioplasty and Stenting of intracranial atherosclerotic lesions have a higher complication rate and a large proportion of this is attributable to side branch arterial occlusion from forceful displacement of the atheroma into the ostia or snowplowing effect. This can result in severe disabilities when it result in small infarcts involving eloquent areas in the posterior circulation or the motor tracts. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We present a series of 6 cases utilizing a new dual catheter technique for maintaining the patency of at-risk vessels during angioplasty and stenting. There are several methods previously described to help reduce the incidence of stroke but because they do not have a physical presence in the ostia to protect it, they are unable to guarantee the patency of the vessel. RESULTS: All 6 patients underwent angioplasty and stenting with the technique. The patients were assessed for complications with post-procedure magnetic resonance imaging and no complications were found. CONCLUSION: In this preliminary series, the dual catheter technique appears to safe and effective in preventing occlusion of the adjacent branch arteries. This technique may facilitate the use of the Wingspan stent in the treatment of intracranial atherosclerotic stenotic segments by reducing the risk of peri-procedural stroke.

Background: Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a late presentation of newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes
mellitus (DM) in children. The aim of this study was to determine the clinical characteristics of type
1 DM at presentation so that appropriate actions can be taken to promote early diagnosis.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort review from a patient registry database. Data on all
patients younger than 20 years old diagnosed with type 1 DM who had been registered with the
Malaysian Diabetes in Children and Adolescents Registry (DiCARE) from its inception in 2006
until 2009 were analysed.
Results: The study included 490 children and adolescents, out of which 57.1% were female. The
mean (SD) age at diagnosis was 7.5 (3.7) years, which increased from year 2000 to 2009 [6.6 (3.3)
years to 9.6 (3.5) years; p = 0.001]. An increasing percentage of DKA at diagnosis was observed from
year 2000 (54.5%) to year 2009 (66.7%), which remained high and leveled between 54.5% and
75.0%. DKA was more common in patients with normal weight (p = 0.002) with no significant
association with age, gender, ethnicity and status of family history of diabetes mellitus.
Conclusion: An increasing trend of age at diagnosis of patients with type 1 DM was observed.
Besides that, proportion of DKA at diagnosis had remained high over the past decade. This study
found that normal weight was associated with status of DKA, thus more detailed investigations are
required to determine the risk factors for DKA.
