BACKGROUND:With the extensive application of cone-beam CT in oral and craniofacial surgery, a clear hyoid bone position indicator for normal population has important implications for the change of hyoid bone position before and after orthodontics. OBJECTIVE:To determine the cone-beam CT measurement range of hyoid bone position in populations aged 6-19 years from Shandong, so as to provide a reference marker for the change of hyoid bone position before and after orthodontics in local children and adolescents. METHODS:Totaly 254 healthy children (120 males and 134 females) aged 6-19 years from Shandong Province were subjected to cone-beam CT scan of the hyoid bone. Mimics10.01 was used to evaluate the linear and angular measurements of hyoid bone position, and then the normal value range was confirmed. Independent-samplet-test was used for analysis of gender difference and 95% confidence interval was calculated. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: There were gender differences in a part of indicators of hyoid bone position among 14-15 years, 16-17 years, 18-19 years groups (P < 0.05). For children aged 12-13 years, the hyoid bone position vertical to the base of skul and upper jaw bone is lower in males than in females. For children aged 14-15 years and 18-19 years, the hyoid bone horizontal to the cervical spine is more forward in males than in females.

OBJECTIVEThis study aimed to improve students' ability in practical and theoretical courses of oral health education and to promote students' learning interest and initiative.
METHODSFourth-year students of the oral medical profession from 2006 to 2008 at Weifang Medical University were chosen as research objects for oral health education to explore the experimental teaching reform. The students were divided into test and control groups, with the test group using the "speak out" way of teaching and the control group using the traditional teaching method. Results of after-class evaluation of the test group, as well as final examination and practice examination of the two groups, were analyzed and compared.
RESULTSAfter-class evaluation results of the test group showed that the "speak out" teaching method was recognized by the students and improved students' ability to understand oral health education. The final examination and practice examination results showed that the score of the test group was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSION"Speak out" teaching methods can improve students' ability for oral health education, in accordance with the trend of teaching reform.

BACKGROUND: The event of paroxysmal deplorizing shift (PDS) is the cellular hallmark of brain neurons of epileptiform activities. Its development used to be considered to be related to abnormal synaptic interactions. Recertly, the intrinsic nature of PDS has received more attention.OBJECTIVE: To observe the characteristics of epileptiform activities of rat hippocampal CA1 pyramidal neurons induced by low-dosage veratridine and investigate its possible ion mechanism.DESIGN: An exploratory and observational trial.SETTING: Institute of Neuroscience, Fourth Military Medical University of Chinese PLA.MATERIALS: This study was conducted at the Institute of Neuroscience,Fourth Military Medical University of Chinese PLA, from October 2002 to October 2004. Forty healthy SD rats of 14 days old were selected. Drugs were provided from Tianjin Drug Company and Sigma Company.METHODS: Rats were anesthetized by intraperitoneal injection, and their brain was removed and cut into slices. Epileptiform activities were induced by 0.5 μ mol/L veratridine. Then 80 nmol/L tetrodotoxin was added into the perfused solution on 6 cerebral slices, and 5 μmol/L phenytoin was used on another 5 cerebral slices. The electrophysiological characteristics of the cells under the effect of different kinds of drugs were observed.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Discharge pattern of cells and tetrodotoxin-sensitive sodium currents under voltage-clamp configuration through Ⅰ-Ⅴ reaction.RESULTS: After perfusion of 0.5 μmol/L veratridine, the rat pyramidal neurons in CA1 area displayed relatively fixed-mode of runs of PDS bursting, followed by the hyperpolarization of cell membrane. Such epileptiform activities were blocked either by 80 nmol/L tetrodotoxin or 5 μnol/L phenytoin. The tetrodotoxin-sensitive sodium currents in epileptic neurons and normal controls under voltage-clamp configuration on holding potential of -55 rmV, -60 rmV, -65 mV. This shows that persistent sodium currents could be improved by low-dosage veratridine in a voltage-dependent manner.CONCLUSION: Low-dosage veratridine may induce runs of PDS like epileptiform activities on rat CA1 pyramidal neurons. Such changes can be blocked by low-dosage tetrodotoxin or phenytoin. Its ion mechanism may be related to persistent sodium currents.

Objective To enhance the awareness of diagnose and treatment of venous thrombus in premature infants. MethodsThe clinical features, treatment and prognosis of lower limb vein thrombus in three case of premature infants were retrospectively analyzed.ResultsThree premature infants of gestational age 29-36 weeks were found thrombosis in 1-57 days after birth. One case received peripherally inserted central cathete (PICC). All of three cases had infection signs and trauma. One case received thrombolytic and anticoagulant therapy, one case received high dose thrombolytic therapy, and both of them were treated successfully without bleeding complication. However, another case was deteriorated after giving up treatment.ConclusionsCritically ill premature infants are at high risk of thrombosis. Infection, indwelling tube, thrombophilia constitution, and maternal risk factors were the high risk factors of thrombosis. Early detection, early diagnosis, and effective individualized treatment can improve the prognosis.

OBJECTIVE:To systematically review the efficacy and safety of mizolastine combined with H2 recepter antagonists in the treatment of chronic urticaria, and provide evidence-based reference for the clinical treatment. METHODS:Retrieved from PubMed,Cochrane Library,EMBase,CBM,CJFD,etc.,randomized controlled trials (RCT) or QRCT about mizolastine com-bined with H2 recepter antagonists(test group)versus mizolastine alone(control group)in the treatment of chronic urticaria. After quality evaluation and data extract,Meta-analysis was conducted by using Stata 12.0 statistics software. RESULTS:A total of 12 RCT were included, involving 1 188 patients. Results of Meta-analysis showed the effective rate [RR=1.23,95%CI(1.16,1.31), P<0.001] in test group was significantly higher than control group, subgroup analysis showed the the efficacies of different combi-nation of mizolastine and other drugs were significantly better than control group;there was no significant difference in the inci-dence of adverse reactions between 2 group[RR=1.01,95%CI(0.71,1.44),P>0.05]. CONCLUSIONS:The effective rate of mizo-lastine combined with H2 recepter antagonists is significantly higher than mizolastine in the treatment of chronic urticaria, with bet-ter safety. Due to the limit of methodological quality and sample size,it remains to be further verified with more rigorously de-signed and long-term follow-up of large-scale RCT.

Aim To study the activity and mechanism of inhibition of myocardial hypertrophy of total fla-vonoids of Cydonia oblonga Mill. in spontaneously hy-pertensive rats ( SHR) . Methods Total flavonoids of COM ( COMF) were separated and purified by the op-timal process. SHR were divided into 6 groups: SHR control group ( SHR) , captopril group ( SHR+CAP, 25 μg·g-1 ) , Eucommia ulmoides Oliver group ( SHR+EUO, 30 μg·g-1 ) , low ( SHR+COMF-L, 40 μg ·g-1 ) , middle ( SHR+COMF-M, 80 μg·g-1 ) and high dose ( SHR+COMF-H, 160 μg·g-1 ) of COMF groups. Wistar-Kyoto (WKY) rats (n=8) were given distilled water as control. The drugs were given by in-tragastric administration for 16 weeks. The histological and pathological examinations of the heart were per-formed and organic damage was valued. The levels of AngⅡand ALD in blood and heart were evaluated. The mRNA and protein expression of ACE, ACE2 and AT1 was determined by RT-PCR and Western blot to e-valuate the effect of COMF on RAAS. Results Com-pared with SHR control group, HW, HW/BW, LVM and LVM/BW decreased in SHR+COMF-M and SHR+COMF-H groups. Cadiomyocyte hypertrophy was in-hibited in COMF groups. The concentration of AngⅡand ALD in heart and blood decreased. ACE and AT1 mRNA and protein expression in heart tissue de-creased, while ACE2 mRNA expression increased ( P<0. 01 or P <0. 05 ) , Conclusion Total flavonoids of Cydonia oblonga Mill. show the effect of inhibition of myocardial hypertrophy in spontaneously hyperten-sive rats and the mechanism is related to inhibiting ac-tivity of renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system.

Objectives To analyze the clinical features and long-term follow-up results of neuroblastoma (NB) without chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and to provide evidence for further improvement of treatment. Methods The clinical data of children diagnosed with NB who received operation during January 2005 to December 2015 was retrospectively analyzed, and the long-term follow-up results were evaluated. Results In 57 cases of NB, 43 cases (81.1%) were in stage 1, 8 cases were in stage 2 and 2 cases were in stage 4S. The median age at diagnose was 7 months (11 days - 10 years and 11 months). There were 47/51 cases had the pathological type with a good prognosis (accounting for 92.2%). FISH was detected in 1/49 case which had the amplification at greater than 10 copies. 56/57 cases underwent surgical resection of the primary tumor, 50 cases of which were completely resected, and 3 cases had very good partial remission after tumor resection. The abdominal mass was found in the uterus in 1 case, and surgical operation was not performed and the imaging was regularly checked for follow-up , and the mass subsided completely at 7-month-old. The median follow-up time was 36 months (4 - 99 months). Five children were lost to follow-up and the median time of follow-up was 19 months (4 - 45 months). One child in stage 4S relapsed at 1 year of follow-up, 2 cases in stage 1 relapsed at 6 months of follow-up. Five years event free survival rates (EFS) in all patients were 94.6%, and overall survival rate (OS) of the 5 years was 100%. Conclusions Children younger than 18 months without MYCN amplification in the stages 1 and 2 are safe by surgical treatment alone with good prognosis. Simple surgical treatment can also be extended to all age groups of NB without MYCN amplification in the stages 1 or 2.
