Objective To investigate the appearance of solid papillary carcinoma (SPC)of breast on MRI and mammography correlated with histopathological features. Methods Fifteen patients with breast SPC diagnosed from January 2011 to January 2013 were enrolled.Their MR and mammography imaging findings were retrospectively reviewed,15 patients had MRI and 11 patients had mammography. The correlation between pathological characteristics and imaging findings was made. Results All the SPC displayed a solid-papillary growth pattern together with Luminal A type, and 14 cases showed neuroendocrine markers. On mammography, only three cases showed the abnormality. The most frequently seen MRI feature was its location in the posterior of areola (11 cases),ductal ectasia on T1WI (11 cases) and high signal intensity on T2WI.The enhancement patterns included non-mass-like enhancement (10 cases),mostly manifested as ductal with clumped enhancement (5 cases) and segmental with pebble shaped enhancement (4 cases),whereas mass-like enhancement (5 cases) exhibited as annular heterogeneous enhancement. Conclusions SPC is difficult to detect on mammography, but the MRI features may suggest its distinct histological type as papillary tumor. The ultimate diagnosis still depends on histopathology and immunohistochemical results.

Essential hypertension (EH), a complex polygenic disease, is considered to the result of the genetic interaction of multiple gene alterations in concert with environmental factors. Evidences showed that angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) gene and G protein beta3 subunit (GNB3) gene are both important susceptibility genes for EH, and that there exists putative biological connection between the two genes in developing hypertension. To investigate whether hypertension was affected by gene-gene interaction between the two genes in the northern Chinese Han population, a case-control association study including 502 hypertensive cases and 490healthy controls was conducted, selecting the ACE gene I/D polymorpinsm and the GNB3 gene C825T polymorphism. Linkage disequilibrium analysis revealed a significant nonrandom distribution only in male hypertensives, indicating that interaction between ACE gene and GNB3 gene may predispose males to the occurrence of hypertension. Multivariate stepwise logistic regression in single locus analysis, with adjustment for common risk factors for hypertension, demonstrated that the OR for DD/ID versus Ⅱ for hypertension among men was significant (OR 1.57; 95% CI, 1.09 ~2.27; P = 0.016) in dominant genetic model. In combination analysis stratified with respect to gender, slightly significant ORs were found after adjustment in males: OR for TT vs CC, 0.11; 95%CI, 0.01 ~0.99; P = 0.049 within ACE DD genotype; OR for DD/ID vs Ⅱ, 1.52; 95% CI, 1.01 ~2.29; P = 0.047 within GNB3 CC+CT genotype. The results suggest that ACE, or a nearby gene, is a male-specific susceptible gene for hypertension, and that there may exist epistatic gene-gene interaction between ACE D allele and GNB3 825C allele.

Objective To observe the changes of brainstem auditory evoked potential (BAEP) and lower limb short latency somatosensory evoked potential ( SLSEP) in acute carbon monoxide poisoning patients and explore the predictive value of BAEP and SLSEP for delayed encephalopathy after acute carbon monoxide poisoning (DEACMP). Methods Sixty-six acute CO poisoning patients was divided into a DEACMP group and a non-DEACMP group according to their symptoms. At the same time, 60 healthy subjects were included in the control group. BAEP and lower limb SLSEP dynamic testing were conducted at different time points. Results The abnormal rates in the first test of BAEP and lower limb SLSEP in the acute CO poisoning patients were 31.8% and 68.2% respectively. The BAEP results in the acute stage and later in the DEACMP group were comparable to those of the non-DEACMP group and the normal control group. Interpeak latency of Ⅰ-Ⅲ was not significantly different, but the remaining indices were significantly longer. Compared to the control group, the lower limb SLSEP readings in the acute DEACMP group and the non-DEACMP group were significantly longer. Compared to the non-DEACMP group and the control group, the SLSEP results of the DEACMP group were significantly extended. The specificity index of the BAEP predicted DEACMP up to 85.7% , significantly more than SLSEP testing. Conclusions Early detection of BAEP can help predict DEACMP. This finding should be promulgated and applied.

Cancer Research on Prevention and Treatment 2023;50(10):941-945
Patients with thymoma without preoperative myasthenia gravis may develop symptoms of myasthenia gravis after tumor resection. A comprehensive understanding toward this rare clinical phenomenon is lacking. Recent studies indicate that post-operatively new onset myasthenia gravis (ponoMG) is the result of multiple mechanisms and their interactions, which may be related to the thymoma-mediated production, release and long-term presence of abnormal T cells and autoimmune antibodies in the periphery, as well as the presence of ectopic thymus and late recurrence of thymoma. Preoperative antibody titer is the main predictor. The treatment strategy is based on anticholinesterase drugs and hormonal therapy. In this study, we review the incidence, pathogenesis, predictors, and prevention and treatment strategies of ponoMG.
