Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2007;0(12):-
With the emergence of tissue engineering techniques, using tissue engineering methods and tools to repair cartilage defects become a new treatment model, while looking for a suitable carrier of chondrocytes is the current focus of the study in cartilage tissue engineering. In this paper, synthetic biodegradable polymers and natural extracellular matrix substitutes (natural polymers) make progress in two areas reviewed.

Objective To observe the expression of both type 1 (AT1) and type 2 (AT2) receptors of angiotensin Ⅱ (AngⅡ) in human hypertrophic scars, and to explore theirs role in collagen synthesis of fibroblasts in human hypertrophic scars. Methods The expression of both AT1 and AT2 receptors in fibroblasts of hypertrophic scars was detected with immunohistochemical staining and radioligand receptor binding assay. Collagen synthesis was examined in cultured in vitro fibroblasts of hypertrophic scars by measuring [~3H]proline incorporation into collagenous proteins. Results Positive staining signals of both AT1 and AT2 receptors were found in fibroblasts of hypertrophic scars. Similar results were also got in cultured in vitro fibroblasts of hypertrophic scars, expression level of AT1 and AT2 receptors were 10.69?2.15fmol/10~6cells and 4.9?1.05fmol/10~6cells respectively. In cultured in vitro fibroblasts, AngⅡ may accelerate the collagen synthesis significantly (P

Chinese Pharmacological Bulletin 1987;0(01):-
Many species of animals contain antimicrobial peptides as components of their immune systems. Many antimicrobial peptides have a broad spectrum of activity not only against gram negative and gram positive bacteria but also against antibiotic resistant bacteria, fungi, viruses, and parasites. Such peptides can act in synergy with other host molecules to kill pathogens. It has been found that certain peptides have a high affinity for bacterial products, allowing them to modulate the host inflammatory response to sepsis. They have also been found that they have the ability to recruit inflammatory cells. These properties as well as some other functions of antimicrobial peptides enable them to have an important impact in innate immunity.

Objective:To analyze the effect of tanreqing injection on the serum levels of transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) and matrix metalloproteinases-9 (MMP-9) of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).Methods:102 patients with COPD were divided into the control group and the observation group according to random number table method,52 cases in each group. The control group was treated with routine therapy, and the observation group was treated with Tanreqing injection based on the control group. The serum TGF-β,MMP-9 levels, forced vital capacity (FVC),1 s forced expiratory volume (FEV1),partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2),oxygen partial pressure (PaO2),CD4+,CD86,CD4+/CD8+,syndrome integral, clinical efficacy and incidence of side effects were observed and compared between the two groups. Results:After treatment, the serum TGF-β,MMP-9 levels,PaCO2 and syndrome integral of observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group, the PaO2,CD4+,FVC,FEV1,CD4+/CD8+ and the clinical efficacy of observation group were obviously higher than those of the control group (P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the incidence of side effects between the two groups (P>0.05).Conclusion:Tanreqing injection could effectively reduce the serum levels of TGF-β and MMP-9,and improve the arterial blood gas, lung function and immune function in treatment of patients with COPD.

AIM: To explore the effects of neurotrophin-3 (NT-3)-genetically modified Schwann cells (NT-3-SCs) on differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs) into the neuron-like cells. METHODS: The NSCs were co-cultured with NT-3-SCs. Report gene LacZ genetically modified Schwann cells (LacZ-SCs) and normal SCs respectively in vitro. 7 d later, the differentiation of NSCs was studied by immunohistochemistry, and the percentage of neuron-like cells was calculated. RESULTS: NSCs differentiated to the GFAP-positive cells (glial-like cells) and NF-positive cells (neuron-like cells) in vitro. Compared to the normal SCs, NT-3-SCs more efficiently promoted NSCs to differentiate into the neuron-like cells. The effect of LacZ-SCs was as the same to the normal SCs. CONCLUSION: NT-3-SCs promote NSCs to differentiate into the neuron-like cells. [

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of ultrapulse CO 2 laser-assisted au-tologous epidermal grafting for the treatment of vitiligo.Methods1605patients with30660skin grafts were treated by CO 2 laser-assisted autologous epidermal grafting.Among them,782patients had localized vi-tiligo,319segmental,226general and278scattered.Epidermal grafts were harvested with negative pressure blistering method from normally pigmented skin, and recipient areas were prepared with a ultrapulse CO 2 laser. The curative effect was evaluated8weeks later.Results79.04%of the lesions were cured complete-ly,and total response rate was92.21%,with better effect in localized and scattered lesions than in other le-sions.The best results were shown in face, while the worst results shown in brow and hairline lesions.Con-clusions The advantage of combined therapy of CO 2 laser with autologous epidermal grafting in vitiligo is of easy performance, convenience, high response rate, which is worthy of large scale application.

Objective To explore the effect of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) on the learning and memory of gestational and lactational exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls in rats offspring. Methods The PCB mixture (A1254,0,5,10,20 mg/kg body weight) was administered to pregnant wistar rats every 3 days by gavage from gestational day (GD) 5 to postnatal day (PND) 20.To assess the effects on offspring following such exposure,Morris water maze test was performed to assess the learning and memory ability.Calcium concentration was assayed in hippocampus and the ultramicro structure was observed. Results After training for four days, the escaping latency in every group decreased significantly compared with the first day, especially the control group, the results in the fourth day decreased significantly with the early three days(P<0.05).The offsprings of the 10 and 20 mg/kg had prolonged time of passing the aim target ((5.23± 1.16) s,(7.90±3.21) s,(11.74±6.56) s and (20.83± 8.38) s ; P<0.05),decreased number of crossing platform ((4.14± 1.21),(3.00± 1.32),(2.65± 1.13),(2.42± 1.31) ; P<0.05) and swimming time in the target area ((40.14±7.14)s,(33.76±5.58)s,(32.45±6.00)s and (30.63±5.10) s; P<0.05)compared with those of the rats of control and 5 mg/kg groups. The calcium concentration increased ((121.16± 12.23) nM,(141.27±24.66) nM,(163.32±29.75) nM,(261.46±27.79) nM) and the ultramicro structure in hippocampus changed obviously in the high exposure group. Conclusion Gestational and lactational exposure to aroclor 1254 in rats could affect the leaming and memory ability of offsprings.

Methods According to the wideness of mandibular angles, single or combined surgical treatments were performed by an intraoral approach under nerve block and local infiltration anesthesia, such as grinding mandibular angles, curved osteotomy of the angles and osteotomy of ascending ramus outer layer, partial masseter muscle resection, partial buccal fat pad removal and liposuction of cheek to reconstruct the whole lower face contour. Resnlts In the 71 cases followed up for 4 to 24 months, 60 cases were excellent, 9 were acceptable and 2 were unsatisfactory. The total satisfactory rate was 97 %. Conclusion According to the characteristics of prominent wide lower face, single or combined surgical treatments are performed to reconstruct the bone and soft tissue of lower face. This operative method is simple, safe and consistent with cosmetic surgery principle with little complications.
