1.Pay more attention to "analogous syndrome complex in the same disease and treating the same disease with analogous methods"
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2008;6(5):441-5
Apart from "different syndrome complexes in the same disease" and "the same syndrome complex in different diseases", another relationship between disease and syndrome complex is "analogous syndrome complex in the same disease" which means that the patients who suffer from the same disease manifest the common basic syndrome complex in spite of slight differences in their accompanying symptoms. So we can use a basic Chinese herb formula to treat these patients through slightly modifying the prescription for the sake of their accompanying symptoms when giving the medicine to each patient. The principle of "analogous syndrome complex in the same disease" emphasizes the homogenicity of disease and syndrome complex, further integrating "treatment based on the disease-diagnosis" and "treatment based on the syndrome complex-differentiation". It is important to study the principles of "analogous syndrome complex in the same disease and treating the same disease with analogous methods". This will be beneficial to both interpretation of the connotation of syndrome complex with modern science and technique, and development of the advantages of syndrome differentiation treatment and individualized treatment in traditional Chinese medicine. The clinicians should fully understand the theory of "formula corresponding to the syndrome complex" and treat the patients based on syndrome differentiation.
2.Foundation and application of aggregation syndrome theory in traditional Chinese medicine
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2007;5(2):111-4
This paper proposes a new idea of the theory of Ju (aggregation) syndrome complex based on succeeding to traditional Chinese medicine. It presumes that the etiological factors of Ju are both heritage deficiency and postnatal viscerae damage, which cause the disturbance of qi-transformation, and thus, the evil heat, turbid damp and stagnated blood take the chance of retention in the body, to block up the production and distribution of the essence and energy. Ju is a mixed symptom complex of asthenia and sthenia, and should be simultaneously applied to purging-tonifying therapy and aggregation-dissipating method. Under the guidance of Ju theory, patients with metabolic syndrome were treated with Chinese medicine. The symptoms were relieved, and the insulin resistance, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, body weight, waist circumference, and the inflammatory cytokines were improved, which confirmed the theoretical significance of the practical value of Ju theory.
3.Pondering on integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2006;4(2):114-6
Integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine (ITCWM) plays an important role in developing traditional Chinese medicine. Implementing ITCWM is necessary in accordance with the developing rule of medical sciences and the optimum profits pursued in medical areas. In the face of challenge and problems, collaborating with international academic researchers interested in ITCWM, striving to resolve some problems and puzzles in basic and clinical research of ITCWM, introducing new methods and techniques from any other subjects into the research of ITCWM, and encouraging communication and cooperation among investigators from different scientific areas are suggested to be carried out. It is actually a great opportunity to develop ITCWM at present.
4.Prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome with integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2004;2(5):390-5
Metabolic syndrome also can be named insulin resistance syndrome. The main clinical manifestations include metabolic disorders of glucose and lipid and some diseases caused by the metabolic disorder, such as impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes, obesity, hyperlipemia, fatty liver, hypertension, coronary heart disease, microalbuminuria, etc. According to the theory of zang-fu organs (viscera) in traditional Chinese medicine, these diseases all result from the deficiency of spleen-qi. They are characterized by deficiency in the Ben (root) and excess in the Biao (branch). The Ben (root) is the failure of the spleen in transportation, and the Biao (branch) is stagnation of qi, blood, phlegm, fire, dampness and food. In the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome, it is advocated that the intervention of medicine should be used as early as possible, so as to slow down the occurrence and development of insulin resistance, and that emphasis should be transferred from decreasing blood glucose alone to comprehensive prevention of risk factors, especially to the prevention of cardiovascular events. The effect of traditional Chinese herbs is not as good as the western drugs in decreasing the blood pressure and glucose. However, the traditional Chinese herbs have distinctive superiority in ameliorating the insulin resistance, protecting the injury of vascular endothelial cells, regulating the metabolism of lipid, inhibiting the hypercoagulability, and treating the inflammation. Moreover, they are relatively safe. Therefore, the integration of the traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine is worth further research.
5.Changes of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 in plasma before and after medical treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease patients
Chinese Journal of Primary Medicine and Pharmacy 2014;21(1):54-55
Objective To explore the changes of matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1) in plasma before and after medical treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients. Methods 50 COPD patients in stage of attack were selected as case group, and were given routine medical treatment for 1 week, such as oxygen uptake,anti-infection,relieving cough and reducing sputum, spasmolysis and relieving asthma, and etc.The changes of MMP-9,TIMP-1 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio levels before and after medical treatment were observed, and the clinical curative effect observation was carried on as well.Additionally,30 cases of normal personnels who were taking the physical examination at the same time were selected as the control group. Results The MMP-9,TIMP-1 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio levels of patients in case group before medical treatment were much higher than those in control group (t =2.97,2.44,2.31,all P < 0.05).After 1 week's medical treatment, the MMP-9,TIMP-1 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio levels of patients in case group declined obviously than before(t =2.86,2.39,2.27,all P < 0.05),and the total clinical efficiency reached 92.0% (46/50).Conclusion The MMP-9,TIMP-1 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratio levels in plasma of COPD patients are abnormally high, which can be the observation index of the severity of the disease and curative effect of COPD patients.
6.Pathogenesis of insulin resistance and prevention and treatment strategy of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2004;2(1):14-6
Insulin resistance is the common pathophysiologic basis of multiple metabolic diseases, but the exact mechanism of insulin resistance is still unclear presently. In the past few years, studies on the pathogenesis of insulin resistance, in which the endocrine function of adipocyte and inflammation reaction participate, as well as the insulin-sensitizing drugs have become the new hotspot. The exploration on pathogenesis and treatment of insulin resistance in traditional Chinese medicine has established a foundation for the prevention and treatment of insulin resistance in integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine.
7.Clinical analysis of 15 infants with citrin deficiengcy
Clinical Medicine of China 2010;26(11):1221-1223
Objective To analyze the clinical characteristics and treatment outcome of citrin deficiengc in infants. Methods The clinical data of 15 patients with citrin deficiengcy were analyzed retrospectively and the diagnoses were confirmed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC/MS). Results The patients consisted of 9 male and 6 female infants, whose age of onset ranged from 2 to 10 days excepted 1 case later than one month. The main clinical manifestations were jaundice and swelling liver, laboratory data showed increased total and direct bilirubin, bile acid, alanine aminotransferase,γ-glutamyltransferase,blood ammonia, lactic acid and α-fetoprotein;7 paitients had prolongation of prothrombin time and 9 had dyslipidaemia;G C/MS analysis of urine samples showed elevated galactose ,galactitol and 4 - hydroxyl phenyllactic acid;citrin gene were positive in 6 cases ,cytomegalovirus infections were found in 13 cases. After the therapy of fat-soluble vitamins(A,D and K)and lactose free formula, the jaundice relieved rapidly and dispeared within 2 weeks in all cases. The 6-month follow-up data showed no symptoms in 6 cases. Conclusions The clinical manifestations of citrin deficiengcy are nonspecific,GC/MS and lactose free formula treatment can be used to confirm the diagnosis.
8.Relationships between insulin resistant and hypertension and traditional Chinese medicine intervention.
Journal of Integrative Medicine 2010;8(12):1114-8
Recently many researches have demonstrated that insulin resistant (IR), as an important pathologic process, is increasingly involved with a series of diseases such as central obesity and diabetes. Hypertension is highly associated with IR. The relationships between IR and glucose or lipid metabolism disorders are well established. However, association of IR with hypertension is less covered. Current researches on insulin resistance and pathogenesis of hypertension are reviewed in this paper, which holds that traditional Chinese medicine treatment on IR in patients with hypertension has a good prospect.

Objective To explore the effect of bilateral vagal nerves transection on the inflammatory reaction of rats induced by lung ischemia and reperfusion. Methods Twenty-four adult male SD rats weighed 250-320g were randomly divided into 3 groups (8 each): Sham group (S group), ischemia reperfusion group (IR group) and bilateral vagal nerves transaction and ischemia-reperfusion group (NIR group). Blood gas analysis with arterial blood was performed to detect the arterial partial pressure of oxygen (PaO2) and arterial-alveolar oxygen pressure gradient (A-aDO2) before ischemia and 0.5 and 4 hours after reperfusion. At the end of the experiment, the left lung tissues were collected to measure wet/dry ratio, the pathological changes were observed by light microscopy, and inflammatory indicators, including tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-10 (IL-10) levels and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity were detected. Results Compared with S group, ischemia and reperfusion injury sharply decreased PaO2 and increased A-aDO2; the MPO activity, the contents of TNF-α and IL-10 and the wet/dry ratio obviously increased in IR group; more infiltration of inflammatory cells, hemorrhage, thickening and swelling of alveolar walls were observed. Compared with IR group, PaO2 further decreased while A-aDO2 had no obvious change in NIR group, the inflammatory reaction and pathologic lesions in lung tissues were getting worse.ConclusionBilateral vagal nerves transaction may aggravate lung ischemia and reperfusion injury, suggesting that the integrity of vagal nerves play a significant role in regulating inflammatory reaction of lung ischemia and reperfusion injury in rats.
