Objective To investigate the incidence and the possible risk factors of hepatic dysfunction in patients with Graves' disease (GD). Methods Totally 280 outpatients with hyperthyroidism (caused by GD) were divided in two groups: untreated group (131 patients) and treated group (149 patients). The hepatic function, serum thyroid hormone, TGAb and TMAb were detected for analysis of the incidence, clinical characteristics and correlative factors of the hepatic dysfunction. Results Patients who had at least one abnormal result of liver function test accounted for 70.99% in untreated group and 61.07% in treated group. The most common abnormal hepatic function parameter in patients with thyrotoxic hepatic lesion was increased alkaline phosphate enzyme (ALP), which was 57.3% in untreated group and 51.0% in treated group. Abnormalities of alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase(AST), gamma-glutamyl tyanspeptidase (GGT) and total bilirubin (TBIL) were 28.2% (37/131), 18.3% (24/131), 10.7% (14/131) and 21.4% (28/131) in untreated group and 21.5%(32/149), 15.4%(23/148), 4.7% (7/149) and 20.1% (30/149) in treated group, respectively. The possibility of thyrotoxic hepatic dysfunction was correlated with the patients' age and FT3 and FT4 levels, but not with the genesis and course of disease, sex, family history of hyperthyroidism, or levels of TGAb and TMAb. Conclusion Abnormal results of liver function test are commom in patients with hyperthyroidism. Increased alkaline phosphate enzyme and alanine transaminase are the most common abnormal hepatic function parameters; the possibility of thyrotoxic hepatic dysfunction is correlated with patients' age and the level of thyroid hormones.

Objective To study the effect of light intensity and light quality on the growth and total flavonoid accumulation of Erigeron breviscapus. Methods Young plants of E. breviscapus were planted under various color films and light intensities, their biomass and total flavonoid content were determined when plants flowered. Results The biomass and total flavonoid content of individuals under 100% and 80% sunshine were higher than those under 50% sunshine. The biomasses of plants under yellow, red, purple, or blue film were lower than those under white film. Under the blue film, the total flavonoid content of the plant was the highest; while under white film, the total flavonoid yield was the highest. Conclusion Light intensity and light quality significantly affect the growth and total flavonoid accummulation of E. breviscapus. The biomass and total flavonoid yield are the highest when under full sunshine.

Objective To investigate the serum level of calcium-binding protein A9(S100A9)in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and explore its potential clinical significance. Methods The serum level of S100A9 was measured by ELISA in 79 rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients and 20 healthy controls (HC). The correlation of S100A9 level and relevant clinical parameters were analyzed. Results The serum level of S100A9 was significantly increase in RA patients than those in HC. The serum level of S100A9 was higher in high disease activity than that in moderate and low disease activity in the RA group. There was a positive correlation in serum S100A9 level and DAS28 score,Rheumatoid factor, tender joint count and swollen joint count. Conclusion The serum level of S100A9 increases in RA patients and correlates with RA activity.

A total of 100 patients with subacute thyroiditis hospitalized from January 2011 to October 2012 were recruited. Each received glucocorticoid treatment for 8 weeks and there was a 2-month follow-up period after drug withdrawal. After treatment, the short-term recurrence rate was 34% (34/100).If thyroid ultrasound was abnormal, the recurrence rate was 52% (30/58).And it was significantly higher than 10% recurrence rate for those with normal thyroid ultrasound (4/42,x2 =9.67,P < 0.01).The recurrence rate of different erythrocyte sedimentation rate groups of 40-100 mm/1 h and > 100 mm/1 h was 37% (22/60) and 30% (12/40) respectively (P > 0.05).

AIM: To study the chemical constituents with antiviral activity from Lianqiao Bingduqing Capsule (Fructus Forsythiae) on influenza virus. METHODS: Constituents were isolated by different kinds of column chromatography and their structures were elucidated with chemical and spectral methods. RESULTS: Ten chemical constituents were isolated and elucidated such as forsythoside D, caffeic acid, (+)-phillyrin, (+)-pinoresinal-?-D-glucoside, ?-Hydroxyacteoside, forsythoside C, rutin, forsythoside A. CONCLUSION: ?-Hydroxyacteoside is obtained from Forsythia suspense (Thunb.) Vahl for the first time.

Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), and explore the efficacy of endoscopic treatment in patients with esophageal submucosal tumor. Methods Sixty-eight patients with esophageal submucosal tumor were selected, and the tumor was derived from the muscularis mucosa and submucosa according to the common endoscope and endoscopic ultrasonography detection. Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) was applied to remove submucosal tumor with diameter less than 1.0 cm, endoscopic piecemeal mucosal resection (EPMR) or endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) was applied to remove submucosal tumor with diameter 1.1 - 1.5 cm, and ESD was applied to remove submucosal tumor bigger than 1.5 cm. Samples were examined by pathology after treatment. Results Tumors in all the patients were completely removed, and the tumor diameter was 0.6-2.3 cm. Forty-one cases were treated with EMR, 9 cases were treated with EPMR and 18 cases were treated with ESD. Four patients had intra-operative bleeding that was stopped by electrocoagulation hemostasis. No perforation occurred in all cases. Postoperative pathology revealed 43 cases had leiomyoma, 23 cases had interstitialoma, and 2 cases had lipoma. Patients were reviewed by gastroscope 3 months after operation. The white scars formed in all patients, and there was no residue or recurrence. Conclusions Different origin layers and property of esophageal submucosal tumor can be diagnosed accurately by EUS, and endoscopic therapy (EMR, EPMR and ESD) is an effective treatment for submucosal tumor from muscularis mucosa and submucosa. Endoscopic therapy is safe and effective. It provides sufficient pathological information.

Objective: To investigate the effect of polypeptide extract from scorpion venom (PESV) on the matrix metalloproteinase2(MMP2)and matrix metalloproteinase9(MMP9)expression in leukemia-NOD/SCID mice, and the intervention mechanism of PESV in the multiplication and infiltration of leukemic cells thereof. Methods: In order to establish the animal model of outer marrow infiltration of human leukemia, bone marrow mononuclear cells of leukemia patients, irradiated 270 cGy on body by ~(137)Cs, were injected into NOD/SCID mice. The mice were randomly divided into five groups. The groups I, II and III were treated with different concentrations of PESV. Group Ⅳ was the model group injected by the normal saline solution. GroupⅤ was taken as control. The peripheral white blood cell count and blood smear were observed in groups. All of the mice were killed after four-week observation and MMP2 and MMP9 expressions were examined using Real timePCRmethod. Results: The expression levels of MMP2 and MMP9 were significantly lower in group I, group II and group III than that of the model group(P < 0.05). The expression levels of MMP2 and MMP9 were related to the concentration of PESV. Moreover, the peripheral white blood cell count and blood smear were more normal in mice treated with PESV than those of mice of model group. Conclusion: PESV inhibited the overexpression of MMP2 and MMP9 in leukemia-NOD/SCID mice, which significantly inhibited the multiplication and infiltration of leukemic cells.
