OBJECTIVE: To study the expression of excision repair cross-complementing 1 (ERCC1) and the treatment of cisplatin-based chemotherapy in local advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). METHOD: The expression of ERCC1 protein in 107 cases with NPC and in 48 normal nasopharyngeal tissues adjacent to the cancer was detected by immunohistochemical method. RESULT: High expression of ERCC1 was observed in 52 cases with NPC, and 18 cases normal nasopharyngeal tissues, there was no statistically significant differences between them. The expression of ERCC1 protein was significant correlated with patient total TNM stage, but not significantly correlated with age, gender, histological type, T stage and N stage. The recent treatment efficiency in Low ER-CCl expression cases was higher than high expression cases. There was statistically significant difference between them. In 97 follow-up cases, 2 cases died, 5 cases with liver and lung metastasis, there was no statistically significant difference between them. CONCLUSION ERCC1 expression maybe regarded as indicator platinum based chemotherapy sensitivity prediction in nasopharyngeal carcinoma, and also helpful for formulating individualized treatment. The immunohistochemical detection is also simple and effective detection method for ERCC1 expression.

Objective To observe the effects of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMFs) or/and exercise on the area bone mineral density (aBMD) and volume bone mineral density (vBMD) of rats with osteoporosis induced by tretinoin gastric perfusion.Methods 100 female SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups with 20 rats in each group： PEMFs group, exercise group, PEMFs plus exercise group, osteoporosis group and healthy control group. Except for the healthy control group, the osteoporosis models of other 4 groups were built by tretinoin gastric perfusion. After the building of models, each group was intervened with different treatment. In the 4th, 6th and 8th week after treatment, relevant Results of aBMD and vBMD were tested.Results Compared with the osteoporosis group, the BMD of the rats of PEMFs group, exercise group, PEMFs plus exercise group significantly increased significantly ( P＜0.05) in the 6th week, 4th week and 4th week after treatment respectively. In the 6th and 8th week, there was no significant differences among the PEMFs plus exercise group, the exercise group and the PEMFs group ( P>0.05).Conclusion PEMFs can increase the BMD of the rats with osteoporosis as well as exercise. PEMFs takes effect slower than exercise.

Objective To investigate the effect of comprehensive rehabilitation on the stroke.Methods 120 cases of stroke divided into rehabilitation group(60 cases)and control group(60 cases).They were assessed with Fugl-Meyer Assessment(FMA),Modified Barthel Index(MBI),and Satisfaction with Life Scale(SWLS)before and 1 month,3 months and 6 months after treatment respectively.Results The scores of FMA,MBI and SWLS were improved significantly in rehabilitation group,especially in the 1st month,while that of control group presented the tendency of decline.Conclusion Comprehensive rehabilitation is effective on motion function,activity of daily living and quality of life of stroke patients.

Objective To observe the effect of rapid reduction of physical activity on bone mass (BMC), bone mineral density (BMD)and bone metabolism in growing rats. Methods 48 male SD rats were divided into the high-intensity exercise group (T1, n=12), high tolow-intensity exercise group (T2, n=12), low-intensity exercise group (T3, n=12) and control group (Con, n=12). During the first 6 weeks,the rats in T1 and T2 group ran on treadmill with high intensity, while rats in T3 group took low-intensity treadmill exercise. 6 rats were sacrificedfrom each group at the end of 6th week. BMC, BMD of femur were measured with DEXA. Alkaline phosphatase (ALP), osteocalcin(BGP), tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRACP) were detected with ELISA. The exercise intensity of T2 group was reduced rapidly to alow level as in T3 group, but remained in the other 2 groups. At the end of the second 6 weeks, the other rats were investigated again. ResultsCompared with the first measurements, ALP and BGP of the T2 group decreased significantly (P<0.05), and TRACP increased (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in BMC and BMD of femur (P>0.05). Conclusion Rapid reduction of physical activity can suppressbone formation and stimulate bone resorption of long bone among growing rats.

To study the dynamic changes of CT perfusion parameters during the first 12 h in the embolic cerebral ischemia models. Local cerebral ischemia model were established in 7 New Zealand white rabbits. All CT scans were performed with a GE Lightspeed 16 multislice CT. Following the baseline scan, further CT perfusion scans were performed at the same locations 20 min, 1-6 h and 8, 10 and 12 h after the embolus delivery. Maps of all parameters were obtained by CT perfusion software at each time point. The brains, taken 12 h after the scan, were sliced corresponding to the positions of the CT slices and stained by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC). On the basis of the TTC results, the ischemic sides were divided into 3 regions: core, penumbra and the relatively normal region. The changes of all parameters were then divided into 3 stages. In the first two hours (the first stage), the CBV dropped more remarkably in the core than in the penumbra but rose slightly in the relatively normal region while the CBF decreased and MTT, TTP extended in all regions to varying degrees. In the 2nd-5th h (the second stage), all the parameters fluctuated slightly around a certain level. In the 5th-12th h (the third stage), the CBV and CBF dropped, and MTT and TTP were prolonged or shortened slightly in the core and penumbra though much notably in the former while the CBV, CBF rose and MTT, TTP were shortened remarkably in the relatively normal region. We experimentally demonstrated that the location and extent of cerebral ischemia could be accurately assessed by CT perfusion imaging. The pathophysiology of the ischemia could be reflected by the CT perfusion to varying degrees.

Objective To study the postoperative recovery in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)with a history of cerebral infarction.Methods From January 2007 to December 2007,112 patients undergoing elective off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting(OPCABG)with a history of cerebral infarction were studied retrospectively.Each of the 112 patients was matched with 1 control patient who had no cerebral infarction history and were undergoing an elective OPCABG either immediately before or immediately after the study patient,in most cases by the same surgeons.Preoperative characteristics,anesthesia time,awakening time,extubation time,ICU stay,hospital stay,reintubation,hospital mortality,postoperative confusion and stroke were compared in the two groups.Results There were no significant differences between the study and control Patients in the most preoperative characteristics,only the incidence of hypertension and diabetes mellitus were higher than those in control group,P<0.05(78 of 112,69.6% versus 61 of 112,54.5%;52 of 112,46.4% versus 26 of 112,23.2%).The study group took longer to awaken,extubate and stay in ICU and hospital than the control group,P<0.01[(6.4±4.0)h versus(4.6±2.7)h,(19.6±9.7)h versus(16.8±5.5)h,(27.3±16.8)h versus(22.1±10.6)h,(23.4±10.0)d versus(19.5±5.6)]d.The incidence of confusion,stroke and reintubation after operation among the study group was higher than those in control group,P<0.05(17 of 112,15.2% versus 4 of 112,6.3%;8 of 112,7.1% versus 1 of 112,0.9%;8 of 112,7.1% versus 1 of 112,0.9%),RR and 95% CI were 4.83(1.57～14.86)、8.54(1.05～69.45)and 8.54(1.05～69.45).There were no significant differences between the study and control patients in the anesthesia time and hospital mortality.Stroke after the operations was found in 8 of 112 study patients and included cerebral infarction in 6 and transient ischemic attack(TIA)in 2.The 8 patients included new stroke in 7 and worsening of old stroke in 1 without new abnomalities on head computed tomography.1 of 8 patients had early stroke(≤24 hours after operation)and others had late stroke(>24 hours).Conclusion The patients with previous cerebral infarction undergoing off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting took longer to awaken,extubate,stay in ICU and hospital.These patients were more likely to have reintubation,confusion and stroke after operation than those patients with no cerebral infarction history.

Before and after treatment as well as before metastasis,the combined detection of progastrin-releasing peptide (ProGRP) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) was performed in 150 patients with small cell lung cancer.The follow-up period was 1 year.Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and electrochemiluminescence immunoassay were conducted.The result showed a negative correlation between the serum levels of ProGRP and NSE the curative effect.And a positive correlation existed between the serum levels of ProGRP and NSE and disease development.The difference had statistical significance (P ＜ 0.05).The levels of ProGRP and NSE may be used to indicate the disease development and evaluate the curative effect.

The clinical manifestations and CT findings of 26 patients,who were full-time cooks working in small restaurants,were analyzed retrospectively.The main clinical manifestations were chest congestion,shortness of breath,chest pain,cough and hemoptysis.Lung CT scanning revealed lung carcinoma in 1 case,pulmonary nodules in 16 cases including 2 cancerous nodules confirmed in the followup review,puhnonary bulla in 6 cases,emphysema in 4 cases,fibro-proliferative lesions in 8 cases,interstitial pneumonia in 4 cases and fungal ball in 1 case.Among 26 patients,12 had two or more concurrent intrapulmonary lesions.The results suggest that long-term exposure to cooking oil fume may lead to a series of pulmonary pathological changes,and attention should be paid to the occupational hazards of cooks.

Stroke patients usually are complicated with degeneration of body function as well as emotional and cognitive problems; consequently it will affect capacities of daily lives and recreation in most cases. Recreational therapy (RT) being favorable as far as stroke rehabilitation is concerned. The authors reviewed current developments of applications of RT to carry on a brief talk about present and future utilization of RT in stroke rehabilitation and it holds the point that when practicing RT we should introduce relevant evaluation Methods and techniques adopted in physical therapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) area into comprehensive rehabilitation program for some better Results . Evidence based principal should also play a positive role to make a systematic and specific intervention plan in further procedure of RT treating stroke patients.
