Objective To study changes of?-glutamyltransferase(GGT)and its isoenzyme in urine and renal cortex of rats with subacute cadmium exposure.Methods Sixty healthy SD male rats were chosen and divided randomly into control group,middle dose group and high dose group,which were orally dosed daily with feed containing0,5and10mg cadmium per kg for six weeks.The activities of GGT and its isoenzyme in urine and renal cortex of the rats were determined in the3rd and6th week respectively.Re sults During the whole experimental period,the body weights and kidney to body weight ratios of control group,middle dose group and high dose group showed no significant differences.The GGT activities of middle dose group and high dose group increased significantly with the prolongation of exposure to cadmium and the increase of cumulative exposure compared with those in the control group.Unusual bands of GGT isoenzyme in the urine and renal cortex homogenate were found in the3rd week and the incidence of unusual bands of GGT isoenzyme was100percent in the6th week in the cadmium-treated rats of middle dose group and high dose group.Con clusion The GGT activities and the unusual bands of GGT isoen-zymes in the urine and renal cortex could be used as sensitive indexes to identify the renal toxic effects induced by cadmium.

Objective To compare the body composition of diabetic and healthy subjects and to investigate the correlation between obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods Body composition was analyzed in 80 type 2 diabetic patients (diabetes group) and 80 healthy subjects (control group) selected at random.They were measured for body fat mass,visceral fat area,sketedtal muscle mass,waist-hip ratio,the content of protein and mineral,etc.The blood glucose,blood fat,insulin resistance index (Homa-IR) and glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c) were also measured.Results The means of body fat mass((19.68 ± 6.78)kg),percent body fat ((29.87 ± 8.04) ％),obesity degree ((115.93 ± 15.94) ％),visceral fat area ((104.48 ± 36.19) cm2),Body mass index(BMI) ((24.85 ± 3.51) kg/m2),chest circumference ((94.06 ±7.86) cm),waist circumference ((85.18 ± 9.50) cm) and waist-hip ratio (0.90 ± 0.05) were significantly higher than the means of healthy subjects'weight control ((-4.08 ± 6.79) kg),body fat mass ((17.31 ± 5.55)kg),percent body fat ((27.38 ± 6.47)％),obesity degree((108.88 ± 13.80)％),visceral fat area ((85.44 ±44.04) cm2),BMI ((23.43 ± 3.10) kg/m2),chest circumference ((91.11 ± 7.52) cm),waist circumference ((80.79±8.17) cm) and waist-hip ratio (0.86 ± 0.05) (t=2.55,2.30,3.12,2.86,2.73,2.28,3.12 and 4.76 respectively;P ＜0.05),body mass control ((-7.01 ± 7.49) kg),obesity control ((-8.53 ± 6.66)kg),muscles control((1.52 ± 1.43) kg) were lower than control group:the body mass control((-4.08 ±6.79) kg),obesity control ((-6.39 ± 5.78) kg),muscles control ((2.31 ± 2.09) kg).The uric acid was negatively related to weight control and obesity control (r =-0.43,-0.42 ; P ＜ 0.01),and were positively related to visceral fat area,percent body fat,waist-hip ratio,BMI,obesity degree,chest circumference,waist circumference and body fat mass (r =0.32,0.31,0.40,0.36,0.36,0.31,0.42,0.42 ; P ＜ 0.05).The triglyceride was negatively related to weight control and obesity control (r =-0.44,-0.41 ;P ＜ 0.01),and were positive related to percent body fat,waist-hip ratio,BMI,obesity degree,chest circumference,waist circumference and body fat mass(r =0.27,0.35,0.46,0.46,0.35,0.42,0.42 ;P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion The body fat and fat distribution are significantly different between diabetic and healthy subjects.There may be some relationship between central obesity and diabetes.

Objective To observe the acute effects and symptom relief of radiofrequency hyperthermia combined with chemotherapy in treating advanced or metastatic gastrointestinal cancer.Methods 50 cases with advanced or metatatic gastrointestinal cancer that recurrent after operation or can not be resected were all treated by local radiofrequency hyper- thermia combined with chemotherapy.In every cycle of chemotherapy,radiofrequency hyperthermia was given 2 to 3 times,60 minutes per time.One case complete chemotherapy 3 to 6 cycles and the total times of radiofrequency hyper- thermia ranged from 6 to 16.Results In 50 cases,the rate of effects was 38% and the rate of symptom relief was 46%.Conclusion In the combined therapy for advanced or metastatic gastrointestinal cancer,the radiofrequency hy- perthermia has some value in relieving symptoms,improving living quality and controlling tumour.

Objective To reveal the incidence and types of acid-base disorder (ABD) of critically ill patients in emergency.Methods The clinical data of critically ill patients in the resuscitation room were collected prospectively from December 1,2008 to March 31,2009.Both arterial and venous blood samples were collected to detect arterial blood gas analysis and serum electrolytes simultaneously and their ABD were analyzed.Results Of totally 766 cases,the incidence of ABD was 97.3％ (745 cases).Among ABD the simple acid-base disorder ( SA BD) was 149 cases ( 20.0％ ),dual acid-base disorder (DABD) 525 (70.5％ ) and triple acid-base disorder (TABD) 71 (9.5％ ).After calculating anion gap (AG),the incidence of TABD increased from 12 to 71 cases and the missed diagnosis rate were 83.1％ (59 cases) and after calculating potential HCO3-,the incidence of TABD increased from 8 to 71 cases and the missed diagnosis rate were 88.7％ (63 cases).The age of patients with TABD (77.9 ± 10.7 years old) was older ( P ＜ 0.01 ) than that of other two groups of SABD and DABD as well as APACHEⅡ score (25.9 ± 7.1 ) and incidence (22.5％ ) of MODS in TABD were higher (P ＜0.01 ).The mortality of patients with TABD on the first,second,third and seven day were 14.1％,23.9％,26.8％ and 38.0％ respectively and significantly higher than those in SABD and DABD (P ＜0.05 or P ＜0.01 ).Conclusions The incidence of ABD was 97.3％.Calculation of AG and potential HCO3- would help find metabolic acidosis and TABD.The age and APACHEⅡ score were key factors to poor prognosis of patients with TABD.

Objective To study the clinical and X-ray findings in mamma virilis devolopment.Methods Clinical and X-ray findings in 11 patients with primary mamma virilis development were presented and analysed retrospectvely.Results X-ray findings were divided into 3 groups:1)mass(n=4):round or oval mass with high density and well-defined border;2)patch(n=4):patch like uneven mass with high density and ill-defined border;3)nodule(n=3):irregular uneven nodules.Conclusion Clinical and X-ray findings of mamma virilis development have some characteristic features,it can be differentiated from mamary cancer and pseudogynecomastia.

Objective To study the effect of light intensity and light quality on the growth and total flavonoid accumulation of Erigeron breviscapus. Methods Young plants of E. breviscapus were planted under various color films and light intensities, their biomass and total flavonoid content were determined when plants flowered. Results The biomass and total flavonoid content of individuals under 100% and 80% sunshine were higher than those under 50% sunshine. The biomasses of plants under yellow, red, purple, or blue film were lower than those under white film. Under the blue film, the total flavonoid content of the plant was the highest; while under white film, the total flavonoid yield was the highest. Conclusion Light intensity and light quality significantly affect the growth and total flavonoid accummulation of E. breviscapus. The biomass and total flavonoid yield are the highest when under full sunshine.

Collagen fibrils and hydroxyapatite might recognize each other at the mesoscale by multiple cooperative interactions due to their intrinsically repetitive structured surfaces, and thus effectively directing the biomineralization, a biological process involving regulating the growth of bones, teeth and other organs. In this work, we developed a simple technique to prepare nanowire arrays of biological macromolecules by reversely using the biomineralization mechanism, with results similar to the hot wall epitaxy, a molecular beam deposition technique under vacuum. With this technique, we successfully cultured 5-10 μg/mL rat tail type I collagen monomer solutions into collagen nanowire arrays on the mica (001) lattice plane along one unique direction across the whole cleavage surface. The atomic force microscope experiments indicated that the nanowires in the arrays became more crowded with higher monomer concentration, but their width and height remained unchanged, about 60.0 nm and 1.5 nm, respectively. The collagen nanowire coating enhanced the hydrophilicity of the mica surface, reducing the contact angle from 25.8° to 9.5°. Based on the characterization results of electron back scattering diffraction and transmission electron microscope, the collagen nanowires were most likely to be oriented along the mica [110] direction, which validated the quasiepitaxial growth mechanism in more details.

ObjectiveTo investigate the effect of the recreational therapy on the ability of social communication in stroke patients. Methods58 cases of stroke patients were divided into recreational group (28 cases) and control group (30 cases). All of them received routine rehabilitation therapy, while the recreational group received the recreational therapy in addition. All patients were evaluated with Functional Independence Measure (FIM) before and after treatment. ResultsThe scores of FIM significantly improved after treatment (P<0.05) in both groups, and the scores in social communication improved more (P<0.01) in recreational group than in control group. ConclusionRecreational therapy may improve the ability of social communication more effectively for stroke patients.
