BACKGROUND: Comminuted intra-articular fractures of the calcaneus are difficult to treat, and inappropriate treatment will lead to some sequelae such as talalgia, traumatic arthritis and flatfoot, which do harm to functional recovery. OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical efficacy of locking and traditional plates for intra-articular calcaneal fractures METHODS: Seventy-six patients (94 feet) with intra-articular calcaneal fractures were enrolled, and received open reduction and plate internal fixation. All patients were allotted to two groups based on the fixation materials, including locking plate and traditional plate groups. The healing time, AOFAS scores, Visual Analogue Scale scores, loss of Bohler angle and adverse events were compared between groups. In addition, the loss of Bohler angle of osteoporotic patients was compared between groups.RESULTS AND CONCLUSION: There were no significant differences in the healing time, AOFAS scores, Visual Analogue Scale scores and Bohler angle between two groups after surgery (P > 0.05). But for osteoporotic patients,compared with the traditional plate group, the loss of Bohler angle was smaller in the locking plate group. These results suggest that the various clinical and radiographic indicators of locking plate and traditional plate for intra-articular calcaneal fractures show no significant differences. For osteoporotic patients, locking plate has certain advantages in preventing loss of joint reduction, but large-size trials are needed.

Fifteen novel 5-substituted-2-(pyridyl)benzothiazole compounds were designed and synthesized by simple hydrolization and condensation reaction of the 2-amino-5-substituent benzothiazole. Activities of these synthesized compounds were evaluated on Bcap-37, HCT-15 and HepG2 tumor cells in vitro by standard MTT assay. 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) was used as the positive control. The results revealed that most of the new compounds had potent effects on Bcap-37, HCT-15 and HepG2 tumor cells, and had no or less effect on 293T and L02 normal cells. Particularly, compounds 1c and 2e exhibited better activities on HCT-15 and HepG2 cells with IC50 values of 41.59 and 38.65 micromol x L(-1), and 1i showed excellent activities on Bcap-37 and HepG2 cells with IC50 values of 46.63 and 23.51 micromol x L(-1), respectively. The structure-activity relationship of 5-substituted-2-(pyridyl)benzothiazole compounds were also discussed preliminarily.

It has been demonstrated by our previous research that 4-(2-acetoxybenzoylamino) butyramide derivatives exhibited good antiepileptic activities. In this paper, to explore the SAR and improve the antiepileptic activities of these derivatives, a series of novel 4-(2-acetoxybenzoylamino) butyramide heterocyclic compounds (5a-5n) were synthesized and biologically evaluated. Their structures were confirmed by 1H MNR, ESI-MS and elemental analysis. Pharmacological test in vivo showed that target compounds (5f, 5i-5n) displayed strong antiepileptic activities on 4-AP induced epilepsy in mice with ED50 values ranging from 0.3137 to 0.3604 mmol x kg(-1).

Objective To study the effect of long session hemodialysis (LSHD) on the quality of life in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients.Methods A total of 40 MHD patients in our dialysis center were enrolled in the study.Quality of life was investigated by SF-36 table.Sleep questionnaire survey concluded the Athens insomnia scale (AIS),Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI) and Epworth sleepiness scale (ESS).Clinical data were collected.Forty MHD patients were equally divided into HD and LSHD groups according to clinical data and sleep quality score for prospective study.Hemodialysis dose of HD group was 4 h thrice weekly,and of LSHD group was 8 h thrice weekly.The trial lasted for 6 months.Changes of life quality were compared between two groups.Results As compared to HD group,LSHD group had significant higher Kt/V (1.73±0.36 vs 1.41±0.23,P＜0.05),higher levels of serum hemoglobin [(124.67±9.08) vs (110.55±9.01) g/L,P＜0.01] and albumin [(45.01±2.66) vs (39.28±2.63) g/L,P＜0.01].better sleep quality score (16/20 vs 5/20,P=0.001) and higher blood pressure control proportion (14/20 vs 5/20,P=0.010),higher score of SF-36 (P＜0.05).Conclusion LSHD can improve the life quality of MHD patients by increasing sleep quality and nutrition level.

Objective To study the morphology of the persistent foramen of Huschke (PHF)and the weakness of the remains of foramen of Huschke (WRHF)in the external auditory canal (EAC)by high resolution computer tomography (HRCT)in vivo. Methods The thin HRCT images of 525 cases elder than 5 years were retrospectively reviewed by two radiologists,to detect the PHF or WRHF,and to depict the precise location,size and the distance to the tympanic membrane.The incidence,sex differences, and morphologic data of PHF and WRHF were statistical analyzed.Results ①PHFs were found in 146 EACs of 40 males and 77 fe-males with the prevalence of 13.91%,and were found on both sides in 29 cases.Mean maximum axial diameter was 2.35 mm± 1.1 6 mm (0.6-5.8 mm)and sagittal diameter was 2.09 mm±1.2 mm (0.5-6.2 mm).Mean distance between the inner edge of PFH and the sulcus tympanicus was 1.61 mm±2.4 mm (0-10 mm).②WRHFs were found in 233 EACs of 58 males and 122 fe-males with the prevalence of 22.1 9%,and were found on both sides in 53 cases.Mean maximum axial diameter was 2.43 mm± 0.89 mm (0.8-5.4 mm)and sagittal diameter was 2.08 mm±0.73 mm (0.6-4.3 mm).Mean distance between the inner edge of WRPFH and the sulcus tympanicus was 1.55 mm±1.2 mm (0 - 9.9 mm).③The distance to the sulcus tympanicus was within 3 mm in 137 cases (90.73%)of PFHs and 221 cases (94.43%)of WRFHs.Conclusion Both PHF and WRFH are common by the CT morphological study in vivo.The medial part of EAC is predominant and female is predominant.The incidence and the location of PHF and WRFH are no significant difference.

Objective To find out through case studies about the current situation of resident training in hospitals unaffiliated to medical colleges so as to provide departments of health administration with basis for perfecting resident training contents and methods. Methods Interviews were conducted with the administrative staff and questionnaire surveys were undertaken on the department heads and residents in three hospitas, and then a statistical analysis was made of the results. Results Preliminary conditions for resident training were in place in some departments of the three hospitals and the department heads and residents were aware of the importance of resident training. Conclusion Preliminary conditions for resident training are in place in some departments of the second-tier hospitals and above that are unaffiliated to medical colleges and some achievements have been made in previous resident training. However, there are still some problems.

Citing the IT development of the General Hospital of Nanjing Military Region at Fuzhou as an example, the authors point out that emphasizing the role of the people and doing a good job of talent planning and cultivation is the key to the IT development of a hospital. They argue that a hospital must have leaders and managers that stress the IT development of the hospital; it must have a team of people with high IT expertise; it must have a large number of staff very familiar with the operation of the computer; and it must be able to integrate its human resources and give play to the overall efficiency.

Objective To investigate mineral bone metabolic conditions of pre-dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD),and obtain useful information about the management and treatment of CKD.Methods The levels of serum calcium,phosphate,25-HydroxyvitaminD [25 (OH) VitD],and intact parathyroid hormone (iPTH) were compared.Then a correlation analysis was performed for 25 (OH)VitD.Results Hypocalcemia,hyperphosphatemia,secondary hyperparathyroidism and inadequate of 25 (OH) VitD appeared early in CKD2.Deficiency of 25 (OH)VitD was widespread in CKD2 ～ 5.Multiple linear regression analysis showed that 25 (OH) VitD was independently associated with adjusted level of calcium (P =0.002),application of calcium carbonate (P =0.038),and application of calcitriol (P =0.049) (R square =0.360,P =0.000).Conclusions Mineral bone disorder emerges early in CKD2.More attention should be paid to the management of 25 (OH)VitD.

To explore new agents of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) derivatives with more potent antiepileptic activity, a series of 4-(2-acetoxybenzoylamino) butyramide derivatives were designed and synthesized. All of the novel compounds (5a-51) were synthesized from GABA as starting material, and their structures were confirmed with IR, 1H NMR, EI-MS and elemental analysis. Preliminary pharmacological test in vitro showed that all target compounds displayed strong antiepileptic activities and were worth for further study. The structure-activity relationship of 4-(2-acetoxybenzoylamino) butyramide derivatives was also discussed preliminarily.

A series of 4-(2-acetoxybenzoylamino) butyrate derivatives were designed and synthesized. All of the novel 12 compounds (7a-7k) were synthesized from gamma-aminobutyric acid (1) as starting material, and their structures were confirmed with IR, 1H NMR, EI-MS and elemental analysis. Preliminary pharmacological test in vitro showed that most of these title compounds possessed antiepileptic activity. Compounds 7i-7k displayed strong antiepileptic activity and are worth for further development. Compounds 4, 7d-7h showed moderate antiepileptic activity. The structure-activity relationship of 4-(2-acetoxybenzoylamino) butyrate derivatives is also discussed preliminarily.
