Objective To investigate factors related to chronic pain in those injured with fractures 27 months after the Sichuan earthquake.The correlation between intensity of pain and quality of life was also analyzed.Methods A total of 705 victims were investigated on site.Their residual pain was categorized using a visual analogue scale (VAS) score as no pain,mild pain,moderate pain or severe pain.The pain-related biological,psychological and social factors were analyzed using the Barthel Index ( BI ),Life Satisfaction Questionaire-11 ( LiSat-11 )and the SF-36 health questionnaire. Rehabilitation and surgical interventions,employment,income and emotional status were also investigated. Results The incidence of chronic pain was 88.5％ in this population,of which mild pain and moderate pain were 35.7％ and 33.3％,respectively.The percentage of the victims who had received fracture surgery was 65.8％ ; the percentage of those who had recovered was 96.9％.BI scores for the victims without pain,with mild,moderate and severe pain were 92.7 + 10.2,92.8 + 8.4,91.2 ± 9.9 and 90.4 + 14.7,respectively ; the differences between these groups were all statistically insignificant.The influence of pain intensity on life satisfaction showed a significant linear trend.The percentages of the victims with restricted occupational ability in the four groups were 38.3％,61.5％,75.7％ and 62.8％ respectively.The median of personal annual income were ￥ 3550,￥ 2500,￥ 2000 and ￥ 2500.The VAS scores were significantly related to abnormal emotions,life satisfaction,employment and annual income.The subjects with different levels of residual pain also showed significant differences in the physical functioning,role-physical,bodily pain,general health,vitality,social functioning,role-emotional and mental health sub-scales of the SF-36.The total SF-36 scores were highest among victims without pain (70.6 + 17.5) and declined significantly in those with mild (61.3 + 14.3 ),moderate (52.7 + 14.3 ) and severe pain (52.3 + 14.7 ).This negative correlation between pain intensity and SF-36 total score was statistically significant. Conclusions Chronic pain remains common among fracture victims 27 months after the earthquake.Its intensity is correlated with psychological and social factors as well as quality of life.

Objective To study the effects of dynamic,support-inducing exercise on the support,balance and gait ability of patients with moderate-to-severe hemiplegia after stroke.Methods Fourteen stroke patients were randomly assigned to an experimental or a control group (7 cases to each).The patients in the experimental group received both dynamic,support-inducing exercise and routine exercises,while the patients in the control group received routine exercises only.Before training and after 40 and 60 days of training,their functional capacity was evaluated with the Chinese stroke scale (CSS) for neurological deficits,Berg's balance scale (BBS) and using functional ambulation categories (FACs).Results Before training there was no inter-group difference in average CSS or BBS scores or in FACs.For the experimental group there were significant intra-group differences compared with 0th day in all three items at both time points.At days 40 and 60 there were also significant intra-group differences in BBS scores and FACs in the control group,and CSS scores improved significantly only in the experimental group.At day 40 there were significant inter-group differences in average CSS,BBS and FAC results.However,by day 60 a significant difference persisted only in average CSS scores.Conclusions Dynamic,support-inducing exercise can improve support,balance and gait in patients with moderate-to-severe hemiplegia after stroke.

Objective To study the clinicopathological features and differential diagnosis of bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation (BPOP). Methods The clinicopathological features of 3 patients with BPOP were analyzed , and related literature was reviewed. Results 3 patients included 2 males and 1 female with an average age 40 years old (24-53 years old). The lesions in three patients were located in the left side of the distal radius, the left side of the little finger inside and the right side of ulna coracoid, respectively. Histologically, characterized by unusual mineralized cartilaginous matrix (`blue bone'), the lesion was composed of a heterogeneous mixture of bone, cartilage and fibrous tissue. Conclusion BPOP is a rare benign surface osteocartilaginous lesion, and its diagnosis and differential diagnosis mainly depend on radiographic and histopathologic features.

Objective: To develop an ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry ( UPLC - MS/MS ) method for the determination of nine fat-soluble vitamins in health foods. Methods:The samples were extracted by ultrasonic in organic solvents followed by the separation on a Waters ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column(100 mm × 2. 1 mm, 1. 7 μm) with gradient elution of 0. 1% formic acid in methanol and 0. 1% formic acid solution as the mobile phase and in a mode of atmosphere pressure chemical i-onization multiple reaction monitoring (MRM). Results:The method exhibited a good linear relationship (r≥0. 99) with the detection limit between 0. 9 and 38. 3μg/100 g for the nine fat-soluble vitamins. The recoveries were 78. 5%-114. 9% and the RSDs were 1. 57%-11. 1%(n=6). Conclusion:The analytical method is simple, rapid, accurate and sensitive, and suitable for the determina-tion of fat-soluble vitamins in nutritional supplements.

Genome shuffling methods were explored for Bacillus subtilis strain molecular breeding. Recycling protoplast fusion, recycling transformation and recycling universal transduction were used for genome shuffling in B. subtilis. Four strains with different nutrition-deficiency markers were used as initial strains. After five rounds protoplast fusion, transformation or transduction, the descendant with 4 markers had not been detected, and the rate of descendant with 3 markers were 4.53 x 10(-4), 1.64 x 10(-4), 4.47 x 10(-3), respectively. A computer program was made to simulate the recycling fusion process. Based on simulation result and comparing the genome shuffling result of B. subtilis in this experiment and that of Streptomyces coelicolor reported in references, effective genome shuffling needs a high recombination rate of at least between 10(-3) and 10(-2).

Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects of adjustable traction skin stretchers used in repair of wounds at the lower leg, foot and ankle.Methods:A retrospective study was performed to analyze the clinical data of 56 patients who had been treated for skin defects at the lower leg, foot and ankle from August 2016 to September 2022 at The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Honghui Hospital, Affiliated to Xi'an Jiaotong University Medical College, The First Affiliated Hospital of Henan Polytechnic University, and Yunnan Zhongde Orthopedic Hospital. There were 35 males and 21 females, aged (39.9±18.7) years. There were 43 traumatic wounds, 3 burns, 6 inflammatory wounds, 3 relief incisions due to osteofascial compartment syndrome, and 1 scar. The areas of skin defect ranged from 2.5 cm × 2.0 cm to 20.0 cm × 10.0 cm. The duration of wounds was (8.6±7.8) d. All the wounds were repaired with adjustable traction skin stretchers. The row-hook type of skin stretchers was used in 28 cases, the single-rod type in 20 cases, the single-rod type combined with an external fixator in 5 cases, and a combination of the row-hook type and the single-rod type in 3 cases.The time for wound traction closure, color of wound skin margin, skin swelling around the wound, functional recovery of affected limb and complications were recorded.Results:The time from skin stretching to wound closure was (7.8±3.8) d in the 56 patients. The color of wound skin edge after stretching was normal in 16 cases, dark red in 38 cases, and dark in 2 cases; the skin swelling around the wound was degree 1 in 21 cases, degree 2 in 33 cases, and degree 3 in 2 cases. The 56 patients were followed up for (8.9±4.1) months. Primary wound closure was achieved in 48 patients, and secondary wound closure in 8 patients after repair with an autologous skin graft. Partial skin necrosis occurred due to tension blisters after skin stretching in 2 patients, one of whom was repaired with an autologous skin graft and the other of whom by dressing change. Deep bone infection recurred in 2 patients whose wounds healed after their bone defects were repaired using Ilizarov technique of bone transfer. In the 56 patients, the muscle strength of the lower extremity beyond the wound was recovered to normal, and the range of motion of the joints adjacent to the wound also recovered to normal.Conclusion:In repair of wounds at the lower leg, foot and ankle, adjustable traction skin stretchers can lead to fine clinical effects and limited complications, because the stretchers can control the tension of skin digitally and precisely.

Filler Induced Alopecia (FIA) is a rare injection-related complication which was first reported in 2013. This complication can lead to significant regional hair loss which seriously affects the quality of life. We reviewed the previous literature and made deep analysis on the clinical manifestations, pathogenic causes, pathological manifestations, treatment methods and disease progression of FIA. FIA should be better understood by our medical practitioners. At the same time, based on the anatomical features, we briefly described the safe injection layers in the temporal region.
