OBJECTIVETo study the therapeutic effects of posterolateral depression fractures of the tibial plateau through a modified anterolateral approach.
METHODSFrom February 2011 to January 2012,13 patients with posterolateral depression fractures of the tibial plateau were treated through a modified anterolateral approach. There were 8 males and 5 females, ranging in age from 28 to 59 years old (49.2 years old on average). Data from patients were collected retrospectively as follows: X-ray, time of fracture healing and the complications of fracture healing. The patients were evaluated both clinically and radiologically according to the Rasmussen score system.
RESULTSAll the patients were followed up, and the duration ranged from 6 to 18 months (mean 13.7 months). All the patients got bony union. The average radiographic bony union time was 15.1 weeks (ranged, 11 to 17 weeks). No case of secondary articular depression was found. No complications such as malunion or joint stiffness were found. But 1 patient had superficial infection and 1 patient had common peroneal nerve injury. According to the Rasmussen score system, the mean radiological score was 16.50 ± 0.67 (ranged, 13 to 18), and the mean functional score was 25.20 ± 2.21 (ranged, 13 to 30). The mean range of knee motion was (125.3 ± 9.3)° (ranged, 0° to 135°).
CONCLUSIONTreatment of depression fractures of posterolateral tibial plateau with a modified anterolateral approach is a safe method with effective exposure, due to its stable fixation and relatively good outcome with minimal soft-tissue complications. It is regarded as an ideal procedure for depression fractures of posterolateral tibial plateau.

The principle and technical background of EOS imaging system are introduced. Combining with the publicity of this technology and the existing literature reports, it is known that low dose EOS technology can reduce radiation dose by 5 to 10 times in the course of examination, and micro dose EOS can even reduce radiation dose by 45 times. The image quality is only high or low; the system has EOS 2D and 3D workstations, which can help clinicians to measure and evaluate coronal and sagittal force lines of lower limbs easily. The tilt and torsion of limbs can be measured three-dimensional after three-dimensional model reconstruction in the three-dimensional workstation. Using these results, preoperative evaluation can be carried out. It is helpful for clinicians to evaluate and improve preoperative planning and post-operative measurement and evaluation of surgical effect. In terms of measurement accuracy, a large number of literatures reported that the accuracy of EOS 2D measurement is comparable to that of general radiology measurement, while the accuracy of EOS 3D reconstruction measurement is comparable to that of CT and MRI. Based on the technical characteristics and advantages of EOS, this paper reviews the literature reports and research progress of EOS in evaluating the accuracy of lower limb alignment.

WU polyomavirus (WUPyV), a new member of the genus Polyomavirus in the family Polyomaviridae, is recently found in patients with respiratory tract infections. In our study, the complete genome of the two WUPyV isolates (FZ18, FZTF) were sequenced and deposited in GenBank (accession nos. FJ890981, FJ890982). The two sequences of the WUPyV isolates in this study varied little from each other. Compared with other complete genome sequences of WUPyV in GenBank (strain B0, S1-S4, CLFF, accession nos. EF444549, EF444550, EF444551, EF444552, EF444553, EU296475 respectively), the sequence length in nucleotides is 5228bp, 1bp shorter than the known sequences. The deleted base pair was at nucleotide position 4536 in the non-coding region of large T antigen (LTAg). The genome of the WUPyV encoded for five proteins. They were three capsid proteins: VP2, VP1, VP3 and LTAg, small T antigen (STAg), respectively. To investigate whether these nucleotide sequences had any unique features, we compared the genome sequence of the 2 WUPyV isolates in Fuzhou, China to those documented in the GenBank database by using PHYLIP software version 3.65 and the neighbor-joining method. The 2 WUPyV strains in our study were clustered together. Strain FZTF was more closed to the reference strain B0 of Australian than strain FZ18.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the risk factors of prostate cancer in urban Qingdao and provide some theoretical evidence for the scientific prevention and treatment of the disease.
METHODSWe performed a hospital-based matched case-control study in Qingdao Municipal Hospital. The cases and controls were matched in age, gender, nationality and the place of residence. All the subjects were interviewed face to face in the hospital using a questionnaire, and the data analyzed by the conditional logistic regression method.
RESULTSAccording to the 258 valid questionnaires collected, the prostate cancer risk was significantly higher in the cases with a family history of cancer than in those without (OR = 2.58), and so was it in the men with the first spermatorrhea at the age of < or = 15 years than in those at the age of > or = 18 years (OR = 2.27). A decreased risk of prostate cancer was found among the men with the first experience of sexual intercourse between 25 to 30 years of age (OR = 0.76). An increased risk was shown in those with sexual intercourses > or = 4 times per week before 35 years old (OR = 2.57), masturbations > or = 3 times per week (OR = 2.30) and a drinking history (alcohol > or = 150 g/d) of > or = 10 years (OR = 2.83).
CONCLUSIONPositive family history of cancer, earlier age of the first spermatorrhea, sexual intercourses > or = 4 times per week before 35 years old, frequent masturbations, and heavy drinking for more than 10 years are risk factors for prostate cancer.

OBJECTIVETo analyze the metaphase outcome of total hip arthroplasty with Zweymuller system and deepening acetabulum technique in treating DDH.
METHODSFrom Jan.1998 to Dec. 2004,56 patients (62 hips) with DDH (secondary osteoarthritis) were treated with total hip arthroplasty with Zweymuller system. There were 14 males (15 hips) and 42 females (47 hips) with an average age of 48.6 years, ranged from 30 to 67 years. All patients had pain of hip joint and functional disturbance before operation. Observation items included postoperative complications, imaging and function of hip joint. The function of hip joint was analyzed according to Harris scoring.
RESULTSAll patients were followed up from 5 to 11 years with an average of 6.5 years. X-rays showed that the acetabular cup was in the position of true acetabulum, which combined tightly with the peripheral bone, the abduction angle of the acetabular cup was from 35 degrees to 45 degrees, introversion and extroversion of the femoral prosthesis was within 3 degrees, operated legs were shorter with a mean of (0.5 +/- 0.2) cm. The complications were as following:deep vein thrombosis in 20 cases, which were improved after thrombolysis;hip dislocation in 1 case, which was treated with reduction and immobilization for 3 weeks; ectopic ossification in 4 patients, all were Brook II type; no found infection or nerve injury. The Harris scoring was 87.4 +/- 3.5 postoperative, which was significant higher than that preoperative (43.2 +/- 6.7).
CONCLUSIONThe metaphase outcome of total hip arthroplasty with Zweymuller system and deepening acetabulum technique in treating DDH can obtain good result.

OBJECTIVETo study the efficacy of periarticular multimodal analgesic drugs injection in total hip arthroplasty.
METHODSSeventy-six patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty were randomly divided into two groups, 38 patients received periarticular intraoperative injection of multimodal analgesic drugs, and others not do. Pain of patients were evaluated with a visual analog scale postoperatively, and all patients received patient-controlled analgesia for 24 hours after surgery. The consumption of patient-controlled analgesia was recorded at different time-points.
RESULTSCompared to the control group, visual analog scores for pain of the patients of injected group had significantly lower in the post-anesthetic-care unit and four hours after surgery. Patients of the injected group used significantly less patient-controlled analgesia at 6, 12 hours, and over the first 24 hours after surgery than the control group. No adverse effects resulted from the multimodal analgesic drugs were noted in the injected group.
CONCLUSIONPeriarticular injection of multimodal analgesic drugs in total hip arthroplasty can significantly reduce the postoperative pain of patients and the consumption of patient-controlled analgesia.
