1.Study advance of Holothuria in antitumor activities
China Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Pharmacy 2005;0(01):-
In order to sum up the antineoplasmic active components of Holothuria, we studied the literatures in recent years. The results showed that Holothuria contained a variety of anti-tumor active ingredient, such as Holothurian Glycosaminoglycan and Holothurin. These anti-tumor active components played important roles in different stages of tumor developmment, progression and metastasis. The discovery of new anti-tumor active ingredients may be helpful for the application of Holothuria in clinical tumor treatment.

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the effects of Sennae Folium combined with mannitol for bowel cleaning on multi-slice spiral CT bowel imaging. METHODS:52 patients receiving multi-slice spiral CT imaging examination in our hospital during Jun. 2011 to Jun. 2012 were collected retrospectively, and then divided into control group(22 cases)and observation group(30 cases) according to the methods of bowel preparation. Both groups fasted for 12 h before examination. Sennae Folium 20 g soaked in boiled water 500 ml for half an hour was given to patients in control group 12 h before examination, and then was soaked in boiled water 500 ml again for drinking and other pure water 1 000 ml was also given to patients. Sennae Folium 10 g soaked in boiled wa-ter 500 ml was given to patients in observation group 1 d before examination and 2 h after breakfast;soaked in boiled water 500 ml again 2 h after lunch;10% mannitol 500 ml and pure water 1 000 ml were given to patients after supper. Both groups received multi-slice spiral CT bowel imaging until the patients defecated watery stool after medication. The effective rate of bowl cleaning, image quality and the incidence of ADR were compared between 2 groups. RESULTS:The effective rate of bowel cleaning was 100% in observation group, which was significantly higher than that of control group(81.82%),with statistical significance(P<0.05). The excellent and good rate of imaging quality was 96.67% in observation group, which was significantly better than that of control group(81.82%),with statistical significance(P<0.05). The incidence of ADR as abdominal distension, nausea, intestinal mucosa damage in observation group were significantly lower than those of control group, with statistical significance (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS:Sennae Folium combined with mannitol is effective method to prepare enteric multi-slice spiral CT imaging exam-ination,and perform good bowl cleaning effect, high image quality and low incidence of ADR.

Medical Journal of Chinese People's Liberation Army 1981;0(06):-
Objective To explore the clinical features of meningeal carcinomatosis (MC). Methods The clinical data of 3 male patients with MC, administered to the authors' hospital within one-year period, were retrospectively analyzed. The pathological mechanism, clinical manifestations, diagnosis, treatment and the prognosis were summarized and relevant literature was reviewed. Results All the three patients presented neurological symptoms at the onset. Case 1, 52-year-old having a history of radical resection for gastric cancer 3 years ago, suffered from headache for 2 months without apparent digestive symptoms. Case 2, 71-year-old, presented diplopia for 2 months. Case 3, 46-year-old, complained diplopia for 3 months, followed by left hip pain and urinary retentions. For case 1, examinations after admission suggested no signs of local recurrence or systemic metastasi. For case 2 and 3, lung tumors were detected and then pulmonary carcinoma was diagnosed. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of the three patients showed similar changes, including mild increase of protein, decrease of glucose and chlorides. Carcinous cells (heterocyst, signet-ring cell and large round heterocyst) were found and cells with positive tumor markers were found in the CSF of all the three patients. MRI also showed specific enhancement on meninges. All these patients, died on day 7, 47 and 24 respectively, after the diagnosis was established. Conclusions Neurological symptoms might be the earliest or the exclusive clinical features of meningeal carcinoma metastasis. A detailed neurological and oncological examination is necessary for the patients with progressive neurological lesions without obvious precipitating cause.

AIM: To evaluate the effects of rutae-carpine on ulcerative colitis and intestinal movement in experimental animals. METHODS: The mouse model of acute colitis was induced by coionic instillation of dinitro-chlorobenzene (DNCB)/alcohol. Rutaecarpine (10, 30, and 100 mg?kg-1 ) were orally administrated to animals for 3 days. Diarrheas, colon weight index, macroscopic damage in the colon were observed and the activity of MPO and the content of PGE2 in colon were also examined . Meanwhile, the inhibitory effects of rutaecarpine on ileal contraction movement in Guinea pig which was induced by acetylcoline or histamine in vitro were examined. RESULTS: The diarrhea and the colon weight index were reduced and the macroscopic damage in the in-flammatory colon was effectively attenuated by rutae-carpine. The elevated level of MPO and PGE2 were also significantly decreased. Heal contraction movement induced by acetylcoline or histamine in vitro was strongly dose-dependent inhibited by rutaecarpine. CONCLUSION: Rutaecarpine can effectively inhibit the inflammatory infiltration, bleeding and proliferation in experimental ulcerative colitis and the movement of intestinal smooth muscle. Rutaecarpine may be an effective drug in treating inflammatory bowel diseases in clinic.
