Objective To investigate the effects of health management on risk factors of cardiovascular diseases in community residents. Methods A total of 208 adults from one single community who visited our health check-up center were randomly assigned to the control group(receiving routine consultation,n =104)and health management group(receiving health management intervention,n =104).At 1-year follow-up,fasting blood glucose(FBG),lipid profiles, and blood pressure(BP)were measured and risk factors of cardiovascular were surveyed.t or x2 test was used for data analysis. Results No difference of clinical data was found between the two groups at baseline.Follow-up results indicated that absolute risk of cardiovascular diseases, number of risk factors, health satisfaction, sick leave, daily vegetables intake and physical exercise, and BP were significantly improved in the health management group.Ten-year absolute risk of cardiovascular diseases(0.8 ± 0.4 vs 1.3 ± 0.5),number of risk factors(172 vs 283),and sick leave per year(118 d vs 264 d)were significantly decreased in the health management group when compared to the control group(all P < 0.05).Furthermore,health satisfaction(83.7%(87/104)vs 52.9%(55/104)),and daily vegetables intake(520.5 g vs 348.3 g)and physical exercise(1.2 h vs 0.3h)were significantly improved in the health management group(all P < 0.05).Conclusion Health management may be effective in decreasing risk factors of cardiovascular diseases in community residents.

The initiation and operation of the tissue repair program between the broken ends after fracture is very important for fracture healing, which goes through three intertwined and gradual evolution stages: hematoma inflammatory organization stage, primitive callus formation stage and callus remodeling stage. It is completed by a variety of tissues, cells and cytokines in the bone marrow cavity. In the study of the mechanism of fracture healing, it is found that there are many signal pathways and molecules regulating bone repair, including bone formation, bone remodeling and neovascularization. At the cellular level, it regulates osteoblasts, chondrocytes, osteoclasts and endothelial cells. Hippo signaling pathway is a signal pathway that maintains the size of organs and the balance between cell proliferation and apoptosis, and also plays an important role in maintaining bone homeostasis and bone metabolism. In the process of regulating bone development and repair, it regulates the physiological activities of cells in microenvironment through protein kinase cascade reaction and transcriptional coactivator. The upstream and downstream effectors of Hippo signal pathway directly or indirectly regulate the proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of bone metabolic cells, and the interaction with Wnt signal pathway, Notch signal pathway and other important pathways related to bone repair show that Hippo signal pathway plays an important role in the regulation of fracture healing and may become a new target to promote fracture healing. This article reviews the regulatory mechanism of Hippo signaling pathway and its regulatory role in the process of fracture healing, and looks forward to the research prospect of promoting bone healing by using it as a target.

Objective To research the visualization of congenital heart disease by three-dimensional echocardiographic(3DE) virtual endoscopy(VE) system. Methods Datasets.from 10 healthy children and 22 patients with congenital heart disease were collected (10 patients with atrial septal defects, 6 patients with ventricular septal defects and 6 patients with tetralogy of Fallot). 3DE heart models were reconstructed by virtual reality computing techniques and visualization in scientific computing techniques. The VE system was programmed under the C++ 6.0 language condition, the visualization toolkit (VTK) platform was employed to carry out the graphics and visualization utilities. The virtual eye can move along the navigation paths in the heart by manual camera movements. Results The VE can provide special information in aspects of intracardiac anatomy, The visible heart models show precisely complex anatomy structure and spatial relationships. 3DE intracardiac endoscopic imaging can thus be visualized and navigated successfully by the VE system. Conclusions 3DE VE is a new system for the visualization of congenital heart disease.

OBJECTIVE To study the distributive properties and susceptibility of yeasts to six antifungal agents. METHODS To analyze the distributive properties of 264 clinical Candida spp isolates and study the susceptibility to amphotericin B,nystatin, fluconazole, ketoconazole, miconazole and clotrimazole. The susceptibility of yeasts was tested according to the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards guideline(NCCLS M27-A2). RESULTS Strains of Candida albicans were the most frequent organism isolated accounted for 62.5% of all the isolates.C.tropicalis,C.glabrata,and C.parapsilosis accounted for 20.8%,12.5%,and 1.9%,the others accounted for only 2.3%.The main infected organs were lungs, urinary tract, and digestive tract;the susceptibility tests showed strains of Candida spp to nystatin, amphotericin B,and fluconazole were more active than to the other antifungal agents. The resistance to triazole antifugal agents could be shown. CONCLUSIONS We should strengthen the diagnosis of Candida spp and strengthen the surveillance on susceptibility of clinical isolates Candida spp so as to help the doctors choose the antifungal agents reasonably.

Objective To design an instrument that can provide a series of pulse to stimulate cell by means of external electric field, the structure and function of organism can retrieve. Methods AVR MCU, produced by America ATMEL Co., is used as the core of the system. The program has been developed to adjust three pulse's parameters, including amplitude, frequency and pulse duration. The cooperation between DAC and OP completes the transformation from monopole pulse to bipolar pulse. The booster PB50 amplifies the current and voltage of the output. Results The Stimulator can provide bipolar pulse, amplitude: up to ?40V, frequency: 0.01Hz -10Hz, pulse duration: 0.4ms -24ms. Conclusion Cooperating with special electrode board, the instrument can provide effective electric field for cell simulating. At present the instrument has been used in the research of the endothelial progenitor cell.

Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2002;19(2):244-255
The maximum frequency waveforms of Doppler ultrasound blood flow signals were analyzed using a multi-scale wavelet transform. The variation of maxima of wavelet transform modulus under various scales was extracted from the time-scale representation. This novel approach was applied to the analysis of Doppler signals from carotid blood flow. It was found that the shape of this variation from cases with normal cerebral vessels differed from those associated with abnormal cases. The curve was fitted by a polynomial, and its coefficients were put into a back-propagation (BP) neural network to make a classification. The clinical experiments showed that this approach got good performance and could be a new means in the clinical diagnosis of cerebral vascular disease.

Objective To investigate the association of promoter hypermethylation of secreted frizzled-related proteins (SFRPs) in patients with colorectal cancer. Methods The promoter hypermethylation of SFRPs in 20 sporadic colorectal cancer tissues and adjacent mucosa were detected by methylation-specific PCR. The amplified DNA was subcloned into the T-A cloning vector and sequenced. Two colorectal cancer cell lines (HCT116 and SW480) were treated with 5-aza-2' deoxycytidine for demethylation. The promoter hypermethylation and protein expression of SFRPs in colorectal cancer cell lines were detected by methylation-specific PCR and Western blotting. Results It was demonstrated that the hypermethylation of SFRP 1, 2, 4 or 5 was 19/20,17/20,3/20 or 13/20in cancer tissues, respectively, whereas it was 12/20, 8/12, 1/20 or 7/20 in adjacent mucosa, respectively. SFRP 1, 2 or 5 methylation was more frequently found in cancer tissue than in adjacent mucosa (P~0.05). Methylation of SFRP 1, 2, 4 and 5 were found in HCT116 cell line, but only SFRP1 and SFRP2 were found in SW480 cell line. There was a negative correlation between protein expression and methylation of SFRPs. The Western blotting revealed that SFRP protein re-expressedafter it treated with 5-aza-2' deoxyeytidine. Conclusion Methylation of SFRP 1, 2 or 5 gene is associated with the evolution of eolorectal cancer, and is closely related to silencing expression.
