International Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine 2010;32(4):328-329
Objective This paper aims at the therapeutic effect aft er the artifitial abortion by employing the TCM periodic treatment with respect to shortening the vaginal bleeding time and accelerating the uterine lining recovery. Methods Sampling 280 cases of artifitial abortion in early pregnancy, the author divides them at random the testing and control groups with each of the membership of 140 cases. Given the Nifuratel perorally same as the control group, the testing group is additionally under the TCM periodic treatment, that is, dosing Chinese medicine with the purpose of eliminating blood stasis, promoting tissue regeneration as well as invigorating the vital energy and nourishing the blood during the 1 to 3 days'postoperation period, giving Chinese medicine with a view of strenthening liver and kidney together with activating vital energy during the 4 to 14 days' postoperation period, instructing Chinese medicine in order to nourish the spleen and kidney as well as regulate Chong and Ren Vessels during the 15 to 25 days' postoperation period perorally and respectivelly. In contrast, the control group is given Xuefuzhuyu Capsules after the whole postoperation period. Results In terms of the time of vaginal bleeding, menstrual recovery and the regenerating condition of the uterine lining, the result (except for 3 cases in testing group and 2 cases in control group quiting the experiment) shows that after treatment (9 days after the abortion) the testing group achieves the effect superior to that of control group (P<0.01). Conclusion The conclusion is that the TCM periodic therapy is effective in the aspect of shortening the vaginal bleeding time, accelerating the uterine lining recovery and regulating the menstrual circle.

Objective To investigate the change in intracranial pressure (ICP) during induction of anesthesia with fentanyl, propofol and succinylcholine in neurosurgical patients by measuring cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) pressure at the level of lumbar spine. Methods Twenty ASA Ⅰ or Ⅱ patients (9 males, 11 females) aged 24-54 yrs scheduled for elective craniotomy for intracranial tumor were included in this study. Lumbar puncture was performed at L2,3 or L3,4 interspace with an epidural needle through which an epidural catheter was placed in the subarachnoid space to allow measurement of lumbar CSF pressure. Anesthesia was induced with fentanyl 2-3 ?g?kg-1 followed by propofol 2 mg?kg-1 and succinylcholine 1.5 mg?kg-1. CSF pressure was recorded before induction of anesthesia (baseline value), at 5 min after intravenous fentanyl injection, 1, 2, and 3 min after propofol injection, during fasciculation of muscle and immediately after intubation. Results CSF pressure was significantly decreased at 1, 2 and 3 min after i.v. propofol and during muscle fasciculation. The CSF pressure was lowest at 3 min after propofol injection. Tracheal intubation did not result in significant increase in CSF pressure as compared with the baseline value before induction. Conclusion Intracranial pressure is decreased during induction of anesthesia with fentanyl, propofol and succinylcholine in neurosurgical patients and the adverse effect of tracheal intubation on ICP is effectively blunted.

Objective To explore the feasibility of laparoscopic Ladd’s procedure and its indications for intestinal malrotation accompanying midgut volvulus. Methods Laparoscopic Ladd’s procedure was performed in 15 children from July 2002 to March 2006. The procedure was performed using three trocars. Under laparoscopic visualization, the midgut volvulus was untwisted by grasping and pulling the intestine, the Ladd’s band was divided and broadened, the duodenum and the small intestine were mobilized, and finally an appendectomy was performed through an abdominal wall port. Results Laparoscopic Ladd’s procedure was completed successfully in the 15 children. Of them, 1 patient with duodenal web, 1 patient with paraduodenal hernia, and 1 patient with ectopic pancreas also had a concomitant procedure. The operative time was 45~150 min (mean, 75 min). The patients began to take food on 1~3 postoperative day. There was no surgical complications. The length of postoperative hospital stay ranged 4~6 days (mean, 5 days). Follow-up observations in 12 patients for 1~42 months (mean, 21 months) showed normal development and free of symptoms. Conclusions Laparoscopic Ladd’s procedure is a safe and effective technique. It can be performed in neonates and applicable subacute midgut volvulus, but may be unadvisable for acute volvulus with abdominal distention.

Mortality is a key index for assessing technical level and treatment quality of hospital. We filtered and analyzed the literatures about the influence of nurse factors on patient mortality out of China in recent years to guide the study within China. We found the nurse factors impacting mortality included workload, configuration of nursing staff, education status and working environment. Those findings point out the direction of the research on relationship between nurse factors and patient mortality in China, which has great significance.

Objective To investigate the expressions of cell phenotypes CD_8 and CD_(28) of peripheral blood lymphocytes in patients with colorectal cancer. Method CD_8 and CD_(28) of cell phenotypes were measured by flow cytometry in 50 patients with colorectal cancer (cancer group) and 30 nontumorous patients (control group). Results The expression of CD_8 in cancer group was significantly higher than that in control group [(32.24±8.38)% vs (22.18±7.55)%](P < 0.01). CD_(28) and CD_8~+/CD_(28)~+ were much lower than those in control group [(52.03±10.94)% vs (60.60±7.98)%,12.18±4.28 vs 16.38±4.94](P<0.01). CD_8~+/CD_(28)~+ in Dukes D stage patients were significantly lower than that in Dukes B stage patients (P<0.05). CD_(28) and CD_8~+/CD_(28)~+ in lymph node metastasis patients were much lower than those in lymph node negative patients (P < 0.01). CD_(28) and CD_8~+/CD_(28)~+ in serosa involved patients were lower than those in no serosa involved patients (P < 0.01). Conclusions The expressions of cell phenotypes CD_8 and CD_(28) of peripheral blood lymphocytes in patients with colorectal cancer are closely related to biological characteristics of the tumor. The assays of cell phenotypes CD_8 and CD_(28) might be useful for evaluating the immunal statement and prognosis of patients with colorectal cancer.
