Objective To explore the relation between puncturing at superficial venules and effectiveness of acupoint application in summer to treat winter disease. Methods 4872 chronic bronchitis patients who received therapy of acupoint application in summer for treating winter diseases were divided into a superficial-venule group (including 994 patients) and a non-superficial-venuls group (including 3878 patients), according to the conditions that if or not they had superficial venuls. Both groups received the treatment of acupoint application combined with plum-blossom needles quick puncture. On this basis, the superficial-venule group was additional treated by puncturing at superficial venules. Results The cure rate and total effective rate were 73.2% and 98.1% in the superficial-venule group, and 35.9% and 90.8% in the non-superficial-venuls group. There was a significant difference between the two groups in their therapeutic effect (P＜0.01).Conclusion The treatment of acupoint application combined with puncturing at superficial venules are effective in treating chronic bronchitis.

We assessed the effects of trxS gene on changes of proteinase activity, contents of different protein fractions and SDS-PAGE profiles in germinating seeds of contrasting transgenic and nontransgenic barley variety. Proteinase activity was enhanced by 70.28% in transgenic than nontransgenic barley seeds, whereas contents of albumin, globulin, hordein and glutelin in transgenic seeds were 3.68%, 23.52%, 31.37%, and 21.04%, lower than those in nontransgenic seeds. Degradation rates of hordein and glutelin in transgenic seeds were faster than those in nontransgenic seedlings as indicated by the SDS-PAGE profiles. Our data imply that the transformation of trxS gene could promote the degradation of protein, providing theoretic basis for the use of trxS gene and barley quality breeding.

Objective To investigate the differences of the vascular risk factors for anterior circulation and posterior circulation ischemic stroke.Methods The unified diagnosis and treatment questionnaires of ischemic stroke in Qingdao city were developed.The data of 943 consecutive patients with acute ischemic stroke treated in the Departments of Neurology in 11 hospitals with imaging facilities such as computerized tornography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in Qingdao city and its surrounding counties from June 2008 to February 2009 were retrospectively collected.The risk factors for anterior circulation and posterior circulation ischemic stroke were analyzed.Results Univariate analysis showed that there were significant differences in the age,sex,history of coronary heart disease,hyperlipidemia,atrial fibrillation and basdine National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score between anterior circulation and posterior circulation ischermic stroke (all P ＜0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that the age (odds ratio [ OR ] 1.025,95％ confidence interval [ CI ] 1.009-1.042) and the baseline NIHSS score (OR 1.052,95％ CI 1.019-1.086) tended to the interior circulation ischernic stroke,whereas coronary heart disease (OR 0.512,95％ CI 0.341-0.768) and hyperlipidemia (OR 0.585,95％ CI 0.386-0.884) tended to posterior circulation ischemic stroke,and hyperlipidemia was an independent risk factors for posterior circulation ischemic stroke.Conclusions Vascular risk factors exerted different effects on anterior circulation and posterior circulation ischemic stroke.

Objective To monitor the levels of radioactive contamination due to the Japanese Fukushima nuclear accident in Beijing,so as to provide scientific technical information for government to draw effective controlling strategy and processing mechanism.Methods The system of nuclear emergency nmonitoring was started,then the radioactive contamination levels of atmosphere,rain water,surface water and vegetables in Beijing were detected according to the relative survey regulations and technology criterions.Results During the period from 15 to 41 d after the accident,obvious radioactive contamination was found in the atmosphere of Beijing.The maximum radioactivity concentration of 131I ( 5.89 mBq/m3 ) was detected at 22 d after the accident.The radioactivity concentrations of 137Cs and 134Cs were surveyed forming their corresponding peaks at 20 d after the accident,but they were one magnitude lower than the peak value of 131I at least.In addition,the gross β radioactivity level in the water of Chao Bai-he river was verified to be in the range of 0.314 - 0.602 Bq/L. Conclusions The radioactive contamination due to Fukushima nuclear accident has not done visible harm to the public health in Beijing,but monitoring should be continued to observe the long-term effect of the accident.

(±)-Praeruptorin A(PA)was used as the standard reference substance to establish a new method of substitute for reference substance. The contents of both(±)-praeruptorin B(PB)and(+)-praeruptorin E(PE)were calculated by the method. The major content of coumarins in different processing materials could be gained by determining the content of(±)-praeruptorin A, which could provide scientific evidence for the research on pharmacology discrepancy and quality standards. The method was carried out on a Welch Materials Ultimate XB-C18 column(4. 6 mm×250 mm, 5 μm), with a gradient mobile phase of methanol and water at the flow rate of 1. 0 mL/min. The column temperature was 30 °C and detection wavelength was set at 322 nm. According to this method, the relative correlation factors(f)of(±)-praeruptorin B and(+)-praeruptorin E were determined as 0. 787 2 and 0. 969 0, respectively. After determine the contents of 15 batches of materials from different sources, no significant differences between substitute method and external standard method were observed. It was a feasible and credible method to determine the content of major coumarins in Peucedani Radix with different processing materials. The results showed lower contents of coumarins in processing materials than in raw materials.

Objective:To monitor and analyze the activity concentrations of 7Be and 210Pb in atmospheric aerosol in Beijing from 2017 to 2020. Methods:Totally 1 074 atmospheric aerosol samples were collected by high flow air sampler (SnowWhite) including 275 in spring, 266 in summer, 262 in autumn and 271 in winter and subjected to analysis by low background high-purity germanium gamma-ray spectrometery (ORTEC) to determine the activity concentrations of 7Be and 210Pb. Results:The activity concentrations of 7Be in atmospheric aerosol were from 0.56 to 14.84 mBq/m 3, with an avearage of 6.84 mBq/m 3, and from 0.01 to 9.37 mBq/m 3 for 210Pb, with an avearage 3.19 mBq/m 3. The differences in activity concentrations of 7Be and 210Pb in atmospheric aerosol among differernt seasons were statistically significant ( F=32.66, 93.93, P<0.05). Activity concentration of 7Be was highest in spring, followed by autumn, and lowest in summer and winter. Activity concentration of 210Pb ranged from winter, autumn, spring to summer in descending order. Conclusions:The activity concentrations of 7Be and 210Pb in atmospheric aerosol in Beijing from 2017 to 2020 fluctated within the range of normal level.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the safety, feasibility, clinical value, indication, and distribution of diagnostic diseases in different age groups of colonoscopy in pediatric patients.

METHODSA retrospective analysis was performed on the data of pediatric patients receiving colonoscopy from April 2013 to June 2016 at The Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University. Pediatric patients were divided into 0-6 years group (n=57) and 7-14 years group (n=172). Indication for colonoscopy, detective events and diagnostic diseases distribution were compared between two groups.

RESULTSA total of 229 pediatric patients (male 157 and female 72) were divided into 0-6 years group (57/229, 24.9%) and 7-14 years group(172/229, 75.1%). The main Indications for colonoscopy included abdominal pain (81/229, 35.4%), hematochezia (64/229, 27.9%), crissum abscess or fistula (40/229, 17.5%). Hematochezia was the most common complaint in 0-6 years group (40/57, 70.2%), while abdominal pain in 7-14 years group (74/172, 43.0%). Completion rate between 0-6 years group and 7-14 years group was not significantly different (87.72% vs. 85.47%, χ=0.181, P=0.671). Only one pediatric patient (1/229, 0.4%) developed transient oxygen desaturation and recovered quickly after oxygen supply and aspiration of sputum. No serious complications such as bleeding, perforation or death occurred. Including 45 pediatric patients in 0-6 years group and 102 pediatric patients in 7-14 years group, a total of 147 pediatric patients (147/229, 64.2%) were found to have colorectal lesions. Inflammatory bowel disease (57/147, 38.8%), colonic polyps (40/147, 27.2%) and other intestinal inflammation (39/147, 26.5%) were the main findings. The most frequent diagnosis in 0-6 years group was colonic polyps (28/57, 49.1%), among them, 25 pediatric patients (25/28, 89.3%) were with the complaint of hematochezia. The most frequent diagnosis in 7-14 years group was Inflammatory bowel disease (54/172, 31.4%), among them, 29 pediatric patients (29/54, 53.7%) were with the complaint of abdominal pain.

CONCLUSIONSPediatric colonoscopy is safe and effective. Hematochezia and abdominal pain are the most common complaints in 0-6 years group and 7-14 years group respectively. Colonic polyps and inflammatory bowel disease are the most frequent diagnosis in 0-6 years group and 7-14 years group respectively.

Objective To investigate the underlying drug enhancement mechanisms of the Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix) and Huangqi (Astragali Radix) combination and toxicity reduction of Chuanwu combined with Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) in Wutou Decoction (乌头汤, WTD), and to elucidate the compatibility principle. Methods The active compounds and potential effective targets of the selected combinations were retrieved from the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform (TCMSP) and Traditional Chinese Medicines Integrated Database (TCMID). The toxicity of Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix) was investigated by selecting all five toxic compounds from the literature and the TCMSP database, and obtaining their targets through SwissTargetPrediction. Targets related to rheumatoid arthritis (RA) were searched using DisGeNET, GenCards, and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man (OMIM). Mutual targets between the drug pairs and RA were selected as potential RA therapy targets. The medicinally active compound-target network was constructed using Cytoscape 3.9.0. Gene ontology (GO) term enrichment and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway enrichment were performed using the Database for Annotation, Visualization, and Integrated Discovery (DAVID) platform. Results We obtained 191 active compound targets for Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), 171 for Huangqi (Astragali Radix), and 103 for Chuanwu (Radix Aconiti) (hypoaconitine’s target was obtained through literature and SwissTargetPrediction). A total of 5872 genes were obtained for RA. A drug-active compound-target network involving 13 effect-enhancing and nine toxicity reduction targets was constructed. PGR was the main effect enhancement target, and KCNH2 was the main toxicity reduction target. The effect-enhancing targets were related to 23 GO terms (such as positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter, steroid hormone-mediated signaling pathway, plasma membrane, and protein binding) (P < 0.01), and 13 KEGG pathways related to synergism [such as estrogen signaling pathway, cholinergic synapse, and phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/protein kinase B (PI3K/Akt) signaling pathway]. The toxicity reduction targets were related to 28 GO terms (mainly involes G-protein coupled receptor signaling pathway, plasma membrane, and drug binding) (P < 0.01), and five KEGG pathways related to toxicity reduction (cholinergic synapse, calcium signaling pathway, regulation of actin cytoskeleton, neuroactive ligand-receptor interaction, and serotonergic synapse). Conclusion The combination of Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix) and Huangqi (Astragali Radix) plays an important effect-enhancing role in WTD and involves the estrogen and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways, with PGR as the core. The Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix) and Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) combination decreases toxicity in WTD and is associated with the cholinergic synapse and calcium signaling pathways, with KCNH2 as the core.
