1.Plasma markers of endothelial function in cardio-cerebrovascular diseases
International Journal of Cerebrovascular Diseases 2009;17(3):200-204
Endothelial cells can be activated, and develop dysfunction and damage under the pathological state. Endothelial dysfunction plays a key role in the processes of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases, and can be detected in peripheral blood. The concentration of von Willebrand factor (vWF) predicts the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke; the concentration of soluble thrombomodulin is associated with the prognoses of coronary heart disease and stroke; soluble intercellular ashesion rnolecule-1 (ICAM-1) predicts the risks of carotid athero-sclerosis, coronary heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, and diabetes mellitus; the levels of plasma soluble E-selectin in patients with carotid atherosclerosis, coronary artery disease, and diabetes mellitus are increased; the increased endothelin-1 levels predicts the elevated risk of congestive heart failure. The injection of endothelial progenitor cells is promising to become a novel approach for the treatment of cardio-cerebrovascular diseases.
2.Correlation between Carroll Upper Extremities Functional Test and Fine Motor Domain of Gesell Developmental Scale in Children with Cerebral Palsy
Chinese Journal of Rehabilitation Theory and Practice 2017;23(2):203-206
Objective To investigate if Carroll Upper Extremities Functional Test (UEFT) is a better rating scale for evaluating fine mo-tor function in children with cerebral palsy. Methods From January, 2011 to January, 2014, 104 children with cerebral palsy were divided in-to non-hemiplegic palsy group (n=76) and hemiplegic palsy group (n=28), they were assessed by two certified valuers in one week. Their fine motor function was evaluated with UEFT and the Gesell Developmental Scale. The scores of UEFT were compared respectively with the developmental age (DA) and developmental quotient (DQ) in fine motor domain of Gesell Developmental Scale. At the same time, the UEFT score of the affected limb was compared with of the unaffected limb in children with hemiplegic palsy. Results In the non-hemiplegic palsy group, the UEFT score strongly correlated with DA (r=0.752, P<0.001) and moderately correlated with DQ (r=0.456, P<0.001). In the hemiplegic palsy group, the UEFT score of the unaffected limb strongly correlated with DA (r=0.722, P<0.001), and a moderate correlation was found in the affected limb (r=0.591, P<0.001). The UEFT scores of both sides did not correlated with DQ (r<0.186, P>0.05). The UEFT score of unaffected limb was significantly higher than that of the affected limb (Z=-4.708, P<0.001). Conclusion Both of UEFT and the Ge-sell Developmental Scale could be used clinically in assessment of fine motor function in children with cerebral palsy. The UEFT was better in evaluating children with hemiplegic palsy.

Chinese Journal of Practical Nursing 2008;24(7):19-22
Objective To discuss the effect of targeted information support on the sense of uncertainty and anxiety among patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention and its instructive significance to nursing work. Methods We randomized 118 patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention whose sense of uncertainty and anxiety were relative intensive into the test group and the control group with 59 cases in each group. We gave routine health instructions to the control group while targeted information support besides routine health instructions to the test group. We investigated the patients in two groups by Chinese version of uncertainty scale and State Anxiety Inventory at 4 time points, that is ,the first day in hospital, night before the operation,24 hours after the operation and 1 day before leaving hospital. Results The anxiety level and sense of uncertainty about illness decreased at the night before operation,24 hours after operation and 1 day after operation compared with the control group. The sense of uncertainty and anxiety level has statistical difference between whatever two adjacent time points except for anxiety level between the time points between the first day in hospital and before operation.Drop of sense of uncertainty at 24 hours after operation was significantly different between the two groups(P<0.01).Conclusion Supplying targeted information support could decrease the sense of uncertainty and anxiety among patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention.
4.Effects of glucose on mesenchymal stem cell proliferation in mice
Chinese Journal of Diabetes 2008;16(10):625-628
Objective To investigate effects of glucose on mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs) proliferation and the possible mechanism. Methods We evaluated the purity of MSCs,established different groups of glucose, detected proliferation by MTT, and analyzed cell cycle and apoptosis by a flow cytometry system. Results The purity of MSCs exceeded 90%.The positive rates of CD44, CD90, CD45, CD34 were 91.92%, 93.38%, 2.23%, 1.05% respectively.Glucose significantly affected MSCs proliferation(P=0.003):11 mmol/L glucose could promote MSCs proliferation, but 25 mmol/L glucose made this effect disappear. High glucose significantly increased the percent of S phase in cell cycle(P=0.002)and the rate of apoptosis(P=0.000). Conclusions Glucose has two-way regulation towards MSCs proliferation, and the balance between cell-cycle arrest and apoptosis could be responsible for this effects

International Journal of Biomedical Engineering 2009;32(4):201-205
Objective To evaluate the sterilizing efficiency ofabscrbable poly-L-lactide (PLLA) screws sterilized with ethylene oxide and 60Co-γ radial. Methods One group of PLLA screws was sterilized in the ethylene oxide sterilization ease. In order to eliminate the rudimental ethylene oxide, the sterilized screws was put in the air for five days. The other group of PLLA screws was sterilized with 60Co-γ radial with absorbable dose of 15 kGy. Then all sterilized screws were characterized. Results Compared with the primal bend intensity of the PLLA screws, the bend intensity of sterilized screws did not descend remarkably (P>0.05). Compared with the primal molecular weight of the PLLA screws, the molecular weight of screws with 60Co-γ radiation sterilization re-markably decreased 11%. It indicated that the material had degraded. The molecular weight of screws with ethylene oxide sterilization ordy decreased 3%. It indicated that the material didn't degrade obviously. Conclusion Ethylene oxide sterilization is a better way for sterilizing absorbable PLLA screws.

Objective To investigate the correlation of nuclear factor‐κB (NF‐κB) with metabolic syndrome(MS). Methods A total of 240 subjects living in rural areas of Ningxia were enrolled in this study and divided into two groups :MS group (n= 120 ) and healthy control group (n= 120 ). The relationship of NF‐κB with MS was evaluated by t‐test ,partial correlation and conditional logistic regression analysis. Results Whole blood NF‐κB protein level was significantly lower in MS group than in control group [(352.31 ± 307.35) vs (441.00 ± 345.10) ng/L ,P<0.05]. Whole blood NF‐κB protein level was significantly lower in male ,Han nationality ,and 45~55 years old patients of MS group than in control group (P<0.05). Partial correlation analysis showed that NF‐κB was associated with BMI (β=-0.146 ,P=0.025) .Conditional logistic regression analysis showed that whole blood NF‐κB protein was a protective factor for MS (OR=0.91 ,95% CI:0.72~0.98 ,P<0.05). Conclusion The blood NF‐κB level is associated with MS.

The preventive effects of nitroglycerine (NG) on glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in growing rats were studied. Three-month-old female Wistar rats were randomly divided into control group (CON), dexamethasone group (DXM), DXM plus a low dose NG group (NG-L), DXM plus a middle dose NG group (NG-M) and DXM plus a high dose NG group (NG-H), 8 rats in each group. The rat model of osteoporosis was developed by intramuscular injection of dexamethasone twice a week. NG 0.2, 0.4 and 1.0 mg/kg was administered by oral gavages to the treatment groups every day for 12 weeks. Rats in CON group and DXM group were treated with normal saline of the same amount. After the treatment, the bone mineral density (BMD) and bone metabolism-associated biochemical markers were determined. Compared with CON group, BMD of lumbar spine and femur in DXM group was decreased significantly (P<0.05 and P<0.01 respectively), blood BGP levels and NO levels reduced (both P<0.01), and TRAP level increased (P<0.05). As compared with DXM group, BMD, serum BGP and NO were increased, and TRAP decreased in NG-L group and NG-M group, but had no significant difference in comparison to CON group. All the markers other than serum NO and TRAP levels had no significant difference between NG-H group and DXM group. It was concluded that low or middle doses of NG could prevent glucocorticoid-induced bone loss in growing rats, but high dose of NG could not. Supplement with NO donor could be considered as a preventive treatment for glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis in a developing skeleton.

Chinese Journal of Anesthesiology 2010;30(5):572-575
Objective To compare the neuromuscular blocking effects of rocuronium given by intermittent bolus injection, continuous infusion and target-controlled infusion during liver transplantation. Methods Thirty-six patients with hepatic failure of both sexes aged 21-63 yr weighing 48-80 kg undergoing liver transplantation were studied. The donor livers were obtained from living donors. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to the mode of rocuronium administration ( n = 12 each): group Ⅰ intermittent bolus injection (group Ⅳ); group Ⅱ continuous infusion (group CI) and group Ⅲ target-controlled infusion (group TCI). Neuromuscular block was assessed by TOF stimulation of ulnar nerve (TOF-Watch SX). Anesthesia was induced with midazolam 5 mg,fentanyl 4-6 μg/kg and propofol 1.0-1.5 mg/kg, and rocuronium was administered using different modes of administration. A bolus of rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg was given during induction and supplemental rocuronium 0.15 mg/kg was given when T1 was returned to 25% in preanhepatic stage and T4/T1 (TOFR) returned to 25% in anhepatic and neohepatic stages in group Ⅳ. TCI at an initial target effect-site concentration of 3 μg/ml was started during induction, the concentration was adjusted to maintain T1 at 5%-10% , TCI was temporarily suspended at the beginning of anhepatic and neohepatic stages, and then TCI at a target effect-site concentration of 0.1 μg/ml was started again and the concentration was adjusted to maintain T1 at 5%-10% in group TCI. A bolus of rocuronium 0.6 mg/kg was given during induction, the initial infusion rate was set at 30 μg· kg-1 ·min-1 and then adjusted to maintain T1 at 5%-10% in preanhepatic stage, CI was temporarily suspended at the beginning of anhepatic and neohepatic stages, and then it was started again at 1 μg· kg-1 · min-1 in preanhepatic stage and the infusion rate was adjusted to maintain T1 at 5%-10% in group CI. Tracheal intubation was performed when the maximal effect was achieved. The administration was stopped after suture of the peritoneum. The onset time, the maximal depression of T1 , intubation condition, recovery time and the total amount of rocuronium consumed were recorded. Results There was no significant difference in onset time, the maximal depression of T1, intubation condition, ecovery time and the total amount of rocuronium consumed among the 3 groups ( P > 0.05). Conclusion There is no significant difference in the onset and recovery when neuromuscular blocade was induced by rocuronium via Ⅳ, CI and TCI, but neuromuscular blockade induced by rocuronium via TCI and CI is more stable than that induced by rocuronium via Ⅳ during liver transplantation.
