Objective: To study the effect of topical administration of basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) on healing of rabbit corneal wound caused by mustard gas. Methods: All the corneas of 8 New Zealand white rabbits were injured by liquid mustard at the concentration of 0.2%. One eye of each rabbit was treated with bFGF eye drops 6 times daily, the other eye with 0.25% chloromycetin eye drops as control. Computerized image analyzer was used to calculate the corneal epithelial healing rate. Results: The mean epithelial healing rate in bFGF-treated eyes was (1.276?0.152) mm 2/h, whereas in the control eyes it was (1.094?0.154) mm 2/h. The difference of 2 groups was statistically significant (P

Objective To evaluate the safety of laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC) for patients with hepatic cirrhosis. Methods We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 72 patients with hepatic cirrhosis (Child-Pugh’s grads A or B). The patients received LC between July 2002 and March 2007. Under general anesthesia, the operation was preformed with four trocars and an intra-abdominal pressure of 8 to 12 mm Hg. Results LC was completed in 71 of the patients (antegrade in 67 and retrograde in 4), 6 of them received subtotal cholecystectomy. One patient was converted to open procedure because of dense adhesion at the Calot triangle. The operation time was 35 to 105 minutes (mean, 51 minutes); blood loss ranged from 5 to 60 ml with a mean of 12 ml. The patients were discharged 3 to 11 days (mean, 5.6 days) after the operation and were followed up for 3 to 18 months (mean, 12 months). After the operation, 7 patients developed ascites, and 1 had hemorrhage at the puncture site. During the follow-up, all patients were free of biliary symptoms, no residual or recurrent liver stone was found. Conclusions LC is safe for patients with liver cirrhosis, and should be the first choice for Child-Pugh’s grads A or B patients. Proper preoperative preparation and intra-and postoperative treatments are critical for the surgical outcomes.

AIM:This study aims to screen the differentially expressed genes related to the pathogenesis of ameloblastoma by cDNA microarray.METHODS:The total RNAs were isolated from ameloblastoma and tooth germ, respectively. The RNAs were purified by oligotex. Both the mRNAs from two kinds of tissues were reversely transcribed to cDNA with the incorporation of fluorescent-labelled dUTP to prepare the hybridization probes. The mixed probes were hybridized to cDNA microarray.Tumor-related genes were screened through the analysis of fluroescent intensity.RESULTS:722 genes exhibited significant changes in expression levels in the ameloblastoma in comparison with tooth germs tissues.240 genes were overexpressed more than doubled(92 genes were more than 3-fold),and 482 genes were underexpressed to below 0.5 of the control level.CONCLUSION:Microarray technique facilitates large scale and rapid identification of potential target genes of ameloblastoma.

Objectives: To observe the therapeutic effects of collagen corneal shields (CCS) combined with fibronectin (FN) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) on healing of rabbit corneal wound caused by mustard gas, and to look for the new methods, new technology and new medicine to treat the injured cornea before eyelid edema observed in field hospital. Methods: After the left cornea was contaminated with mustard gas, 24 rabbits were equally divided into three groups(groups A, B, C) at random. Groups A,B,C were treated with PBS,CCS and CCS+FN+EGF,respectively. The corneas were stained with fluorescein and photographed 2, 8, 16, 24, 36,72 hours after contamination. The rate of corneal epithelial healing and percentage of damage were calculated. Results:The healing rates of groups A,B and C were (0.879±0.139)mm2/h, (1.223±0.166)mm2/h and (1.543±0.224)mm2/h,respectively and had statistically significant difference(P<0.01). The percentage of damage was 71.6%, 57.3% and 44.8%,respectively and also had statistically significant difference(P<0.01).Conclusions: The treatment with CCS can accelerate the corneal epithelial healing injured by mustard gas and the therapeutic effects will be better if CCS is combined with FN and EGF.

Objective To evaluate diagnostic value of transrectal gray scale contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in distinguishing benign from malignant nodes of prostate. Methods Thirty-three patients with 38 prostate nodes underwent real-time transrectal gray scale CEUS with SonoVue and contrast pulsed sequence (CPS). Contrast enhancement pattern of the prostate nodes were recorded and time-intensity curves (TIC) were drawn to calculate the parameters and difference between benign and malignant nodes. Results Twenty benign nodes (17 in inner gland) and 18 malignant ones (14 in external gland) were confirmed by pathology. Compared with normal peripheral zone, malignant lesions showed significantly earlier time to enhancement. The time to peak (TTP), accelerating time (ACT) and peak intensity (PI) of malignant lesions were lower than those of benign lesions (P<0.05).There was no significance in arrival time (AT) between the two groups (P>0.05). Conclusion Of all parameters in CEUS, TTP, ACT and PI are different between prostate benign and malignant lesions, and thus contribute to discriminate prostate cancer from benign diseases.

Objective To study the effect of interventional treatment of iliac and femoral vein stenosis concomitant with deep venous thrombosis. Method Fifty-three patients were divided into 5 groups. In group A after placing into inferior vena cava a filter,11 patients adopted Amplatz Trombectomy Device for thrombolysis or ORSIS thrombolysis and persistent thrombolysis through popliteal vein. In group B thrombus was taken out through guiding catheter and then persistent thrombolysis through popliteal vein after placing into inferior vena cava filters in 9 cases. In group C 13 patients adopted persistent thrombolysis through femoral arteries. In group D 8 patients received persistent thrombolysis through popliteal vein. In group E persistent thrombolysis through foot veins was carried out in 12 patients. Seventeen patients received implanted stents and balloon-expansion in iliac and femoral veins. Results Symptoms disappeared in 26 patients(49.0%), significantly improved in 21 patients (39.6%), improved in 3 patients (5.7%), did not improve in 3 patients (5.7%), respectively. The repatency of iliac and femoral vein was achieved in more than 80% of the 17 patients. Complications developed in 3 cases in the course of thrombolysis. Conclusion The effect of mechanical removal of thrombus, persistent thrombolysis through catheter and transluminal angioplasty is safe and satisfactory.
