This paper puts forward the numerical signal sequence correlated with the nucleotide sequence and the discrete Fourier analysis approach of its self-correlation and cross-correlation sequences. The approach is applied to the analysis of SARS virus nucleotide sequence. It proves that SARS virus nucleotide sequence has the periodicity laws one-third frequency and two-thirds frequency, which means that SARS virus has a strong coding ability and a high variability. Compared to SARS virus, AIDS virus has no the periodic law of two-thirds frequency, but the difference is unobservable by the approach mentioned in reference 1.

Rabbit osteoblasts were isolated, expanded in vitro, and then seeded into coral-hydroxylapatite. The osteoblasts/coral-hydroxylapatite composite was were implanted into the muscles of rabbits′ back. Bone regeneration was observed 4, 8 weeks after implantation by histological and scanning electron microscopic examinations. The results showed that osteoblasts could adhere and proliferate well on the surface of coral-hydroxylapatite. 4 weeks after implantation osteoid tissue was observed, 8 weeks after implantation large amount of new bone was found. It suggested that osteoblasts/coral-hydroxylapatite composite may be used for bone tissue engineering.

Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of KAI1 mRNA and the clinicopathological parameters and prognostic outcome of patients with gastric Callcer. Methods The expressions of KAI1 mRNA in 70 samples of gastric cancer tissue and 18 samples of benign gastric lesion were detected by in situ hybridization. Results The positive rates of KAI1 mRNA expression in benign gastric lesion and gastric cancer tissue were 94%(17/18)and 31%(22/70),respectively.The expression of KAI1 mRNA was influenced by tumor difierentiation degree and the state of lymph node metastasis. The positive rate of KAI1 mRNA expression was gradually decreased as the increase of invasion depth and the tumor clinical stages. The 5-year survival rate of patients with positive expression of KAI1 mRNA WaS higher than these with negative expression of KAI1 mRNA.Conclmions The less and down-regulation of KAI1 gene expression may be involved in the occurrence and development of gastric cancer.KAI1 gene might be a valuable indicator for early diagnosis and predicting the malignancy and metastasis potential of gastric cancer and the prognosis of patients with gastric cancer.

Objective To detect VP1 and 2A genes of Enterovirus type 71 (EV71) isolated from clinical specimens of patients with light or heavy symptoms and analyze the homogeneity and phylogenetic tree. Methods Fifty clinical specimens of children with hand-foot-and-mouth disease ( HFMD) were dealed with, which were tested by RT-PCR assay with specific primer pairs for EV71. EV71 isolates from patients with light or heavy clinical symptoms were tested by RT-PCR assay with two specific primer pairs for VP1 and 2A genes of EV71 respectively. All of the PCR products were sequenced and compared with that of previously isolated EV71 isolates available from GenBank by homogeneity and phylogenetic tree analyses. Results The RT-PCR results indicated that 30 isolates were EV71, 13 of 30 isolates were from clinical specimens of patients with light symptoms of hand-foot and mouth, the other were from clinical specimens of patients with heavy symptoms of complications. VP1 genes and 2A genes of 10 EV71 isolated strains including 5 light strains and 5 heavy strains were sequenced and compared with that of previously isolated 5 EV71 Chinese isolates available from GenBank (fuyangEU703814.1, xi_anHM003207. 1, shandongEU753418.1, shenzhenFJ607337.1, henanGU366191. 1) by homogeneity and phylogenetic tree analyses. The homogeneity of VP1 and 2A genes of the 10 EV71 isolated strains and 5 previously isolated strains were between 94.7% -99.4% and 93.6% -99.3% respectively, with the representative isolates of A and B genotypes was between 81.0%-84. 6% and 78. 4%-82. 2% respectively. The data suggested that all of the 10 Chinese isolates belong to EV71 genotype C. There were only 87.8% -90.2% homology among these 10 strains and the representative strains of C1, C2, C3 sub-genotypes of EV71 but 96. 8% -99.6% homology among these 10 strains and the representative strains of C4 sub-genotypes of EV71, this suggested that these 10 Chinese isolates composed the C4 sub-genotype, of the C genotype, that formed a single branch in the phylogenetic tree. Conclusion EV71 of sub-genotype C4 distributed in Mainland China, and VP1 genes have close genetic relationship between isolated strains. There is no obvious difference in 2A genes between clinical specimens of patients with light or heavy symptoms by homogeneity and phylogenetic tree analyses.

AIM: To study the effect of mild hypothermia on energy metabolism and hydroxyl radical production as well as delayed neuronal death (DND) in hippocampus during cerebral ischemia/reperfusion in gerbils. METHODS: Forebrain ischemia was induced by occluding bilateral common carotid arteries with aneurysm clamps for 10 min in gerbils. The DND in hippocampal CA1 sector was assessed by histological examination, and hydroxyl radical, ATP (adenosine triphosphate), ADP (adenosine diphosphate),AMP (adenosine monophosphate) levels were determined by high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical or ultraviolet detection. RESULTS: The number of survival neuronal in hippocampal CA1 sector in mild hypothermia + I/R group was more than that in I/R group after ischemia/reperfusion 96 h. The content of 2,3-DHBA (2,3- dihydroxybenzoic acid) in hippocampus in I/R group was much higher than those in sham operation and mild hypothermia + I/R group after reperfusion 6 h (P
