International Journal of Surgery 2010;37(9):609-612
Studies in recent years revel that there is a close relationship between gastrin/cholecystokinin-2 receptors (GAS/CCK-2R) and pancreatic cancer. CCK-2R is widely distributed in human body, but not in normal exocrine pancreas. However, CCK-2R is abnormally expressed in pancreatic carcinoma. The abnormal expression of CCK-2R in pancreatic tissues leads to the abnormal protein expression and activation, changes in acinar cells' morphology and phenotype and an increase in the sensitivity to carcinogenic substances. And some GAS/CCK-2R antagonists can be used for the early and late treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Objective To assess whether treatment with compound danshen tablets plus alendronate would be safe and effective in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis. Methods 180 women with postmenopausal osteoporosis were randomized to receive combination therapy and independent therapy with compound danshen tablets and alendronate for 6 months. Scores of VRS were assessed, mean serum alkaline phosphatase, serum osteocalcin, urinary creatinine, urinary hydroxyproline, urinary calcium were detected. Bone mineral density of lumbar vertebra 1 ~5 was determined by dual X - ray absorptiometry. Results Mean serum alkaline phosphatase, serum osteocalcin, and urinary creatinine, urinary hydroxyproline, urinary calcium were statistically different between the combination therapy group and the independent therapy group, and bone mineral densities increased in all therapy groups while there was higher elevated level in the combination therapy group. Conclusions The combination therapy of compound danshen tablets with alendronate has a favorable influence on women with postmenopausal osteoporosis.

Chinese Journal of General Practitioners 2012;11(3):215-216
Five hundred elderly patients with ischemic stroke admitted from January 2008 to December 2010 were enrolled in the study, including 352 recurrent cases and 148 primary cases. There was a positive correlation of stroke recurrence with age, blood pressure, blood glucose and lipid levels, smoking and alcohol consumption of patients(P <0.05 ); while the stroke recurrence was negatively correlated with physical exercise(P < 0.05).Stepwise multiple regression analysis indicated that the blood pressure, blood glucose and lipid levels were risk factors for the recurrence of ischemic stroke in elderly patients.

AIM: To study the apoptosis induction of cyclooxygenase - 2 ( COX - 2) inhibitor, celecoxib and adriamycin (ADM) on tumor apoptosis of gastric carcinoma MGC - 803 cells, and to explore their possible molecular mechanism(s) and interactions. METHODS: The number of MGC - 803 cells was observed by MTT assay. Tumor apoptosis was studied by fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry (FCM), and DNA ladder. RESULTS: MGC -803 cell number was significantly decreased with increasing dose of ADM. Cells were accumulated in G0/G1 phase and the number of cells in S phase was decreased. ADM (5 mg/L) combined with celecoxib (25 μmol/L) markably inhibited the growth of MGC - 803 cells. Significant morphological changes of typical apoptosis were observed after treatment with combined use of celecoxib and ADM. Compared with ADM or celecoxib alone, ADM plus celecoxib obviously enhanced the DNA ladder fragment revealed by agarose gel electrophoresis of DNA. After exposure to combined celecoxib and ADM treatment for 48 h, MGC - 803 cells were accumulated in G0/G1 phase. There was a decrease in the number of cells in S phase as compared to celecoxib or ADM alone. CONCLUSION: Celecoxib and ADM appear to have synergistic effects for the apoptosis induction. This may be an important prospect for applying COX - 2 inhibitors to assist chemical therapy of ADM in clinical use.

Objective To analyze the fusion genes derived from 29 types of chromosome structural aberrations in leukemia patients, and the significances on the MICM typing, risk grouping, and minimal residual disease(MRD)monitoring of leukemia. Methods The bone ulan-ow or blood samples from 141 leukemia patients were analyzed with a novel multiplex nested RT-PCR.In addition.chromosomal karyotypes were investigated in some patients. Results Of the 141 leukemic samples,66(46.8%)carried 13 types of MLL/AF6,MLL/AF9,dupMLL MLI/ENL,CBFβ/MYH11 and TLS,ERG.Fusion genes were positive in 27 of 57 ALL patients(47.4 q%),and 33 of 78 AML patients(42.3%),respectively.In these ALL or AML patients,7 or 6 chromosome structural aberrations were found. Conclusion This multiplex nested RT-PCR reaction could screen 29 types of chromosome structural aberrations at the same time. It may be helpful for the diagnosis, risk grouping, prognosis evaluation and the detection of minimal residual diseases after chemotherapy and bone marrow transplantation in these leukemia patients.

Objective To investigate the expressions of TK1 (thymidine kinase 1) in PHC (primary hepatic carcinoma). Methods TK1 and AFP in serum of 33 cases of PHC (primary hepatic carcinoma), 38 cases of hepatic cirrhosis,36 cases of hepatitis and 35 cases of healthy people were detected by means of Western blot—enhanced chemiluminecence and electrochemiluminescence. Results The difference of TK1 level in PHC group indicated significance when compared with that in hepatic cirrhosis group , hepatitis group and control group (U value was 436.4, 352.1, 163.6, respectively, all P < 0.01). TK1 level in patients with PHC was related with differentiation (χ2 = 7.476,P < 0.05) and TNM stage (χ2 = 7.227,P < 0.05),but not with sex, age, tumor diameter, number of tumors, vascular invasion, lymph node metastasis (P > 0.05). Kaplan-Meier curve analysis revealed that PHC patients with TK1≤ 2.0 pmol/L had a significantly shortened overall survival when compared with those with TK1 > 2.0 pmol/L (χ2 = 3.954,P < 0.05). Multivariable Cox regression analysis indicated that the level of TK1 and TNM stage were the independent risk factors for patients with PHC (all P <0.05). Conclusions The detection of TK1 has a certain clinical value in the diagnosis, monitoring and evaluation of the prognosis of the PHC.

Objective To analyze the clinical and biological features of mixed acute leukemia(MAL).Methods Bone marrow specimens of 38 MAL patients were evaluated to prove the diagnosis and the classification by morphoiogic, immunologic examinations. These patients were treated with protocols suitable for both acute myeloid leukemia(AML)and acute lymphoblastic leukemia(ALL).Results All MAL patients had a leukemia syndrome.Morphologically, the subtypes of M1,M2 and M5 were predominant in AML,as L2 Was in ALL.Immunologically, coexpression of myeloid and B lineage associated antigens was predominant, about 68.4%;cytogenetically,Ph chromosome was observed in 33.3%(5/15)of MAL patients, and immunophenotype was B-M;1 Ph chromosome(+)MAL patient, fusion gene bcr-abl 190(+)and immunophenotype was B-M.In 38 cases,32 patients received chemotherapy. The complete remission rate was 28.1%(9/32).CR of.normal karyotype was significantly higher than that of abnormal ones. Conclusion Patients with MAL have unique biological features and the complete remission rate was low and the prognosis was poor.
