Objective To explore the effect of nBiPAP on ET-1 of patients with overlap syndrome. Methods Levels of ET-1 in plasma of 25 cases of OS,20 cases of COPD were analysed by radioimmunoassay, and ET-1 in OS was measured before and after treatment. The relationship between ET-1 with SaO_2 during sleep was analyzed. Results (1)The ET-1 levels in plasma of OS group were significantly higher than those of COPD group before treatment(P

Objective: To investigate the inhibitory effects of PTEN gene transfection combined with L-OHP on human cholangiocarcinoma cell line, QBC939, providing a new method for gene therapy of human biliary duct carcinoma. Methods: A eukaryotic expression vector containing PTEN gene was transfected into human QBC939 cells under mediation of lipofectamine and positive cell clones were selected and amplified. Expression of PTEN gene was detected by immunohistochemistry. MTT test was used to determine the in vitro activity of cells, electron microscope was applied to observe cell ultrastructure, and flow cytometry was used for determining the cell cycle and apoptosis. In vitro test was used to study the invasive ability of cells before and after treatment. Results: After transfected with PTEN gene, QBC939 cells had a higher expression of PTEN gene (P

·Diffusely infiltrating retinoblastoma is a rare histopatho-logic type of retinoblastoma, accounting for approximate-ly 1% to 2% of retinoblastoma cases. We report a case of diffuse infiltrating retinoblastoma presenting as endo-phthalmitis and comment on the histopathologic findings.

ObjectiveTo investigate the ultrasonic features of phyllodes tumors of the breast (PTB) with different pathologic types.MethodsTwo-dimensional ultrasound and CDFI were performed in 16 patients with pathologically proved PTB,and the ultrasonic characteristics of different pathologic types PTB were reviewed retrospectively.ResultsAccording to WHO criteria, there were 12 benign PTB,2 borderline and 2 malignant PTB.Associated breast fibroadenoma was detected in 7 patients, including 6 benign and 1 borderline PTB.All of 16 PTB had clear boundary.Benign PTB had regular or irregular shapes, homogeneous or unhomogeneous internal echo and posterior acoustic enhancement in a few cases. Most borderline and malignant PTB showed regular or irregular shapes, mixed cystic and solid internal echo or irregular internal echo,as well as posterior acoustic enhancement. No calcification of PTB was found in all 16 patients. Conclusion The ultrasonograghic features of PTB with different pathologic types are characteristic to some extent, therefore being helpful to the differential diagnosis of PTB.

Purpose To explore the feasibility of optimizing monochromatic images in reducing iodinated contrast dose in CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA). Materials and Methods Sixty-eight patients undergoing CTPA were randomly divided into two groups, with half in research group and half in conventional group to evaluate image quality. Research group underwent spectral CT imaging with the injection of 30 ml Omnipaque (300 mgI/ml) and optimal monochromatic images were postprocessed using the software of GSI viewer. Conventional group underwent conventional CTPA with the injection of 80 ml Ultravist (370 mgI/ml). The CT values were measured respectively in the main pulmonary artery, left pulmonary trunk, right pulmonary trunk, left lobe artery and right lobe artery. The contrast noise ratio (CNR) in two groups were calculated, and image quality were subjectively assessed. Results The total iodine intake in research group (9000 mg) was significantly lower than that of conventional group (29 600 mg). CNR in the main pulmonary artery, left pulmonary trunk, right pulmonary trunk, left lobe artery and right lobe artery in research group was significantly higher than that of conventional group (t=2.07-2.71, P<0.05). Subjective image quality scores in research group were also higher than that of conventional group but had no statistical difference (Z=-0.944, P>0.05), while there was a good agreement between the two readers (Kappa=0.8, P<0.05). Conclusion It is possible to reduce iodinated contrast dose using spectral CT imaging and improve the image quality of CTPA.

Chinese Journal of Experimental Ophthalmology 2011;29(9):848-851
BackgroundIdiopathic epiretinal membranes(ERMs) is a common eye disease condition that leads to progressive decline of visual acuity. Studying the risk factors relating to this disease will shed light on its pathogenesis and allow opthalmologists to screen the affected individuals among the high-risk population and prepare for prevention and management strategies. ObjectiveThis survey was to investigate the risk factors of idiopathic ERMs in the population undergoing routine health check-ups. MethodsThe clinical data of idiopathic ERMs was obtained from the population of routine health check-ups in Peking Union Medical College Hospital from November 2009 to October 2010. The examination outcomes were compared between the individuals with and without idiopathic ERMs. The demographic and clinical factors associated with idiopathic ERMs were analyzed and assessed using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Result A total of 27 400 people were included in the survey and idiopathic ERMs were diagnosed in 76 cases. No obvious eye complaint was obtained from the idiopathic ERMs. The number of people affected with idiopathic ERMs was 12 ( 12/11 659 ) in the below 40 years group, 21 (21/4595) in the 51-60 years group and 32 (32/2544) in the over 60 years group. Hypertension, diabetes, diedyslipidemia, renal function insufficiency ,and cataract were found in 42% ,5% ,66% ,6% and 8% of the patients, respectively. The univariate logistic regression analyses revealed that significant correlations were found between age, hypertension, hyperlipidemia and history of cataract( P<0. 01 ). Multivariate regression models showed that the risk of idiopathic ERMs increased in age of 51-60( OR=2. 5,95% CI:1. 2-5.4,P=0.02) and over 60 years( OR =7.3,95% CI:3.4-15.6 ,P<0.01 ) and patients suffering from hyperlipidemia ( OR--2. 1,95% CI:1. 3-3.5, P<0. 01 ). ConclusionsOver the age of 50 years and hyperlipidemia are primary risk factors of idiopathic ERM.
